열방성 액정고분자(LCP)와 polycarbonate(PC) poly(ether imide) (PEI) poly(PEEK), polysulfone(PSF), 그리고 polyarylsulfone(PAS)과의 블렌드에 대한 상용성을 연구하였다.

This paper reports the suitability of a domain decomposition technique for the hybrid simulation of dilute polymer solution flows using Eulerian Brownian dynamics and Radial Basis Function Networks (RBFN) based methods. The Brownian Configuration Fields (BCF) and RBFN method incorporates the features of the BCF scheme (which render both closed form constitutive equations and a particle tracking process unnecessary) and a mesh-less method (which eliminates element-based discretisation of domains). However, when dealing with large scale problems, there appear several difficulties: the high computational time associated with the Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST), and the ill-condition of the system matrix associated with the RBFN. One way to overcome these disadvantages is to use parallel domain decomposition (DD) techniques. This approach makes the BCF-RBFN method more suitable for large scale problems.
Miscible polymer blends still have heterogeneity in their component chain concentration in the segmental length scale because of the chain connectivity (that results in the self-concentration of the segments of respective chains) as well as the dynamic fluctuation over various length scales. As a result, the blend components feel different dynamic environments to exhibit different temperature dependence in their segmental relaxation rates. This type of dynamic heterogeneity often results in a broad glass transition (sometimes seen as two separate transitions), a broad distribution of the local (segmental) relaxation modes, and the thermo-rheological complexity of this distribution. Furthermore, the dynamic heterogeneity also affects the global dynamics in the miscible blends if the component chains therein have a large dynamic asymmetry. Thus, the superficially simple miscible blends exhibit interesting dynamic behavior. This article gives a brief summary of the features of the segmental and global dynamics in those blends.
The Hot Embossing Lithography(HEL) as a method fur the fabrication of the nanostructure with polymer is becoming increasingly important because of its simple process, low cost, high replication fidelity and relatively high throughput. In this paper, we carried out experimental studies and numerical simulations in order to understand the viscous flow of the polymer (PMMA) film during the hot embossing process. To grasp the characteristics of the micro patterning rheology by process parameters (embossing temperature, pressure and time), we have carried out various experiments by using the nickel-coated master fabricated by the deep RIE process and the plasma sputtering. During the hot embossing process, we have observed the characteristics of the viscoelastic behavior of polymer. Also, the viscous flow during the hot embossing process has been simulated by the continuum based FDM(Finite Difference Method) analysis considering the micro effect, such as a surface tension and a contact angle.
We analyzed the non-Newtonian and non-isothermal flow in a single screw extruder system and investigated the mixing performance with respect to the screw speed and the screw pitch. The viscosity of polymer melt was described with Carreau-Yasuda model. The mixing performance was computed numerically by tracking the motions of particles in the screw element system. The extent of mixing was characterized in terms of the deformation rate, the residence time distribution, and the strain. The results revealed that the high screw speed reduces the residence time but increases the deformation rate while the small screw pitch increases the residence time. It is concluded that the high screw speed increases the dispersive mixing performance and the small screw pitch increases the distributive mixing performance.

To enhance the stability of dispersed polyaniline (PANI) particles in a silicone oil system, a nonionic surfactant was adopted, and its effect on the electrorheological (ER) performance was investigated under an applied electric field. In the presence of a nonionic surfactant, the PANI based ER fluid exhibited not only an improved sedimentation stability based on the estimated sedimentation ratio but also an enhanced maximum yield stress behavior. Furthermore, the surfactant added ER suspension was applied to an ER damper system, and its damping performance was compared with the ER suspension without a surfactant.
Polystyrene/multi-walled carbon nanotube (PS/MWCNT) composites were prepared by the use of latex technology. The monodisperse PS latex was synthesized by an emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization from styrene/potassium persulfate/water system in the presence of ethanol. The MWCNTs were first treated with acid mixture to eliminate impurities, dispersed in deionized water driven by ultrasonicator, and then mixed with the PS latex. From these mixtures, PS/MWCNT composites were prepared by freeze-drying and subsequent compression molding. In the small-amplitude oscillatory shear experiments, both complex viscosity and storage modulus increased with increasing MWCNT content. A pronounced effect of MWCNT content was observed, resulting in larger storage modulus and stronger yield behavior at low frequencies when compared to unmodified PS. It showed a transition from viscous to elastic behavior with increasing MWCNT content. Over the MWCNT content of 3 wt%, the storage modulus was higher than the loss modulus across all frequencies.

As an effort to explore the effective use of carbon nanotubes as a reinforcing material for advanced nano-composites with polymer matrices, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were successfully incorporated into polystyrene (PS) via in-situ bulk polymerization. Various experimental techniques revealed that the covalent bonds formed between PS radicals and acid-treated carbon nanotubes are favorable resulting in an effective load transfer. The enhanced storage modulus of the nanocomposites suggests a strong possibility for the potential use in industrial applications.
