  • Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) based on IEEE 802.11s have emerged as one of the prominent technologies in multi-hop communications. However, the deployment of WMNs suffers from serious interference problem which severely limits the system capacity. Using multiple radios for each mesh router over multiple channels, the interference can be reduced and improve system capacity. Nevertheless, interference cannot be completely eliminated due to the limited number of available channels. An effective approach to mitigate interference is to apply dynamic channel switching (DCS) in WMNs. Conventional DCS schemes trigger channel switching if interference is detected or exceeds a predefined threshold which might cause unnecessary channel switching and long protocol overheads. In this paper, a P-learning based dynamic switching algorithm known as learning automaton (LA)-based DCS algorithm is proposed. Initially, an optimal channel for communicating node pairs is determined through the learning process. Then, a novel switching metric is introduced in our LA-based DCS algorithm to avoid unnecessary initialization of channel switching. Hence, the proposed LA-based DCS algorithm enables each pair of communicating mesh nodes to communicate over the least loaded channels and consequently improve network performance.

  • This paper proposes a cognitive engine platform that enables dynamic spectrum access(DSA) based on a spectrum sharing system for the military tactical network environment. The current military tactical wireless communication system is increasing need to secure a supplementary wireless spectrum to ensure that multiple wireless networks for different weapon systems co-exist, so that tactical wireless communication between the same or different systems can be operated effectively. This paper examined policy development and research activities engaged by the U.S. and European countries on wireless spectrum sharing to secure more spectrum. It also introduces the current status of cognitive engine development, which is the core technology of tactical wireless communication for DSA. In addition, based on the investigation performed into the latest trends, we propose a platform structure for a cognitive engine based on a spectrum sharing method where more frequencies can be added for tactical radio communication, so that DSA can be realized, and wireless networks of different weapon systems can co-exist.

  • The purpose of this study is to make suggestions for the ongoing process of an integration of the Healthy Families Center and the Center for Multicultural Families. Based on previous studies and interview data from nine service workers at the two institutions, we make the following suggestions. First, a systematic analysis tool should be developed in order to evaluate the effects of the integration initiative with reliability and validity. Second, empirical data should be collected from the users after the integration of the two institutions and be used to promote their satisfaction. Third, a specific preparation should be made to enhance the integration process of the service workers. Fourth, the integration should be considered in the context of the community and networks. Finally, further studies are needed to understand how the integration influence family policy and social policy in larger contexts.

  • This paper aims to explore how firms develop and grow in regional clusters based in a developing country. The argument is that start-ups / small and large firms are able to grow by developing linkages or networks for resources within clusters - and this tenet is based on studies of firms that are based from such clusters as Silicon Valley in the US, Cambridge in UK and other clusters from which have evolved over long periods of time. Most of the time we hear narratives from the developed world where there are brownfield cluster development efforts. In developing countries governments are making efforts to develop clusters from scratch - which in this paper we term as greenfield cluster versus a brownfield development, which is where the cluster is developed based on existing and new organisations in a region. In this paper, we believe the context of clusters can be important in determining the way firms develop linkages for their growth - and we look at two contexts in Malaysia ie. A greenfield cluster and a brownfield cluster. The paper presents findings from case studies of firms in a greenfield cluster (Cyberjaya) and a brown field cluster (Penang) in Malaysia. The cases reveal fairly different approaches to development of linkages or networks, which we hope will provides insights to cluster development officials and policy makers and implications to researchers for developing studies of clusters and innovation systems.

  • Major purposes of this stud? are to analyze Korean firms'innovation networks and sources of knowledge for innovation and to understand their spatial dimensions. In the innovation networks, parent firms are most important for subcontracting firms, while suppliers, customers and competitors are relatively important for independent firms. However, in the future innovation networks, it is expected that government-sponsored research institutions and university wilt become more important on the one hand, networks with foreign firms will become more important on the other hand. Regarding the process of innovation, distance does not matter for the acquisition of codified knowledge. Spatial proximity is, however, critical for the acquisition of tacit knowledge because discussions and researches in a research division within a firm, personal networks of CEO and workers who are responsible for innovation activity, and inter-firm relations with suppliers and customer in a region are regarded important as sources of tacit knowledge. Overall, the innovation networks are different between the Capital Region and non-Capital Region as well as between the industrial complex and non-industrial complex, suggesting that different regional innovation strategies and policies should be established and implemented by considering such regional specificities. Finally, based on the results of this study several policy implications are suggested.

  • These days, a consistent and fatal attack attribute toward a database has proportionally evolved in the similar development form to that of security policy. Because of access control-based defensive techniques regarding information created in closed networks and attacks on a limited access pathway, cases of infringement of many systems and databases based on accumulated and learned attack patterns from the past are increasing. Therefore, the paper aims to separate attack information by its types based on a virtual infringement pattern system loaded with dualistic VM in order to ensure stability to limited certification and authority to access, to propose a system that blocks infringement through the intensive management of infringement pattern concerning attack networks, and to improve the mechanism for implementing a test that defends the final database, the optimal defensive techniques, and the security policies, through research.
