Piezoelectric solids such as PZT and PLZT have been widely used as sensors and actuators for various smart systems. One of the problems arising in actuator applications is that a larger actuation force needs to be produced from a small system. This naturally leads to local electric field or stress concentration and thereby resulting in a nonlinear behavior inside the system, Hence, it becomes more important to predict the nonlinear behavior of piezoelectric solids. In this paper we investigate the mechanism of nonlinear behavior in those materials and suggest a constitutive and finite element model. The calculation results obtained from the model seem to be qualitatively consistent with experiments.

In this study, the two dimensional morphology of particle accumulates on a cylindrical fiber was numerically simulated when a uniform external electric field was present across a cylindrical fiber. In order to investigate the mechanism of linear dendrite formation which is observed under the above electrostatic condition, the electrostatic forces between a newly introduced particle and each deposited particle were calculated and compared with those between the particle and fiber As a result of this study it was found that dielectrophoretic forces between the oncoming particle and fiber play principal roles in linear dendrite formation.
Recently, thick PZT films are required for the cases of micro piezoelectric devices with high driving force, high breakdown voltage and high sensitivity, and so on. In this work, thick PZT films were fabricated by Sol-Gel multi-coating method. Microstructures, and electrical properties of films were investigated by XRD, FESEM, impedance analyzer, and P-E hysteresis. PZT films with 2.7$mu extrm{m}$ to 4.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness were fabricated. Dielectric constant, loss, remnant polarization and coercive field of them were 880~1650 at 1kHz, 2~3% at 1kHz, 26~32 $\mu$C/$ extrm{cm}^2$, and 33~60kV/cm, respectively. Also a transverse piezoelectric coefficient $(e_{31,f})$ measurement system was fabricated and tested for thick film samples.

In this study, It has been demonstrated a new and realizable possibility of the ferroelectric random access memory devices by all solution processing method with paper substrates. Organic ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) thin films were formed on paper substrate with Al electrode for the bottom gate structure using spin-coating technique. Then, they were subjected to annealing process for crystallization. The fabricated PVDF-TrFE thin films were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found from polarization versus electric field (P-E) measurement that a PVDF-TrFE thin film on paper substrate showed very good ferroelectric property. This result agree well with that of a PVDF-TrFE thin film fabricated on the rigid Si substrate. It anticipated that these results will lead to the emergence of printable electron devices on paper. Furthermore, it could be fabricated by a solution processing method for ferroelectric random access memory device, which is reliable and very inexpensive, has a high density, and can be also fabricated easily.
Ionic conduction mechanism of Mg-Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) intercalated with CO32- (Mg-Al CO32- LDH) was studied. The electromotive force for the water vapor concentration cell using Mg-Al CO32- LDH as electrolyte showed water vapor partial pressure dependence and obeyed the Nernst equation, indicating that the hydroxide ion transport number of Mg-Al CO32- LDH is almost unity. The ionic conductivity of Mg(OH)2, MgCO3 and Al2(CO3)3 was also examined. Only Al2(CO3)3 showed high hydroxide ion conductivity of the order of 10-4 S cm-1 under 80% relative humidity, suggesting that Al2(CO3)3 is an ion conducting material and related to the generation of carrier by interaction with water. To discuss the ionic conduction mechanism, Mg-Al CO32- LDH having deuterium water as interlayer water (Mg-Al CO32- LDH(D2O)) was prepared. After the adsorbed water molecules on the surface of Mg-Al CO32- LDH(D2O) were removed by drying, DC polarization test for dried Mg-Al CO32- LDH(D2O) was examined. The absorbance attributed to O-D-stretching band for Mg-Al CO32- LDH(D2O) powder at around the positively charged electrode is larger than that before polarization, indicating that the interlayer in Mg-Al CO32- LDH is a hydroxide ion conduction channel.
This paper tries to explore the overall profile of Korean female labor force over the period of 1960-2000. A particular emphasis is put on portraying major over-time characteristics of female labor force, following five different political regimes--that of Park, J.H.(1960 and 1970s), of Chon D.H. (early and late 1980s), of Roh T.W. (late 1980-early 1990s), of Kim,Y.S. (early 1990-1ate 1990s), and of Kim. D. J. (late 1990-early 2000s), respectively. Discussions have centered around: 1) utilization of young single girls from rural areas during the early industrialization process of 1960-1985; 2) the beginning of married women's entry into labor market and issues of the socalled &M-curve& thesis in Korean experiences since 1990s; 3) the emergence and enlargement of non-regular workers; and 4) the launching of labor related legal measures such as the Equal Employment Act of 1988 and its successive revisions, the Maternity Leave Acts, the On-the-Job Chi1dcare Centers, and the prohibition of sexual harassments on the job setting, and so on. All in all, although it is undeniable that the Korean female labor force has experienced much progress over the period of time in terms of &equality and protection& issues, overall industrial reality we are facing with has not been so prosperous in the sense that most women workers have become the victims of industrial polarization, as time goes by.
Lanthanum modified lead zirconate titanate ($Pb_{1.1}La_{0.08}Zr_{0.65}Ti_{0.35}O_3$) thin films were fabricated on indium doped tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass substrate by R.F magnetron sputtering method. The thin films were deposited at $500^{\circ}C$ and post-annealed with various temperature ($550-750^{\circ}C$) by rapid thermal annealing technique. The structure and morphology of the films were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) respectively. The hysteresis loops and fatigue properties of thin films were measured by precision material analyzer. As the annealing temperature was increased, the remnant polarization value was increased from $10.6{\mu}C/cm^2$ to $31.4{\mu}C/cm^2$, and coercive field was reduced from 79.9 kV/cm to 60.9 kV/cm. As a result of polarization endurance analysis, the remnant polarization of PLZT thin films annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ was decreased 15% after $10^9$ switching cycles using 1MHz square wave form at ${\pm}5V$.
We have investigated structural and electrical properties of $PbZr_{0.3}Ti_{0.7}O_{3}$ (PZT) thin films deposited by pulsed laser deposition methods. PZT thin films have been deposited on $LaMnO_3$ (LMO) bottom electrodes with $LaAlO_3$ (LAO) substrates during different deposition times. High-resolution x-ray diffraction data have shown that all the PZT films and bottom electrodes are highly oriented. The thickness of each film is determined by field-emission scanning electron microscope. We have also observed root mean square roughness by using atomic force microscopy mode, and local polarization distribution and retention behavior of a ferroelectric domain by using piezoelectric force microscopy mode. A PZT/LMO structure has shown good ferroelectric and retention properties as the media for nano-storage devices.

A ring-shaped lead zirconate titanate (PZT) piezoceramic sensor has been integrated with the Langevin-type piezoceramic driver of an ultrasonic wire-bonding transducer to form a smart transducer for in-situ measurement of three essential bonding parameters: namely, impact force, ultrasonic amplitude and bond time. This sensor has an inner diameter, an outer diameter and a thickness of 12.7 mm, 5.1 mm and 0.6 mm, respectively. It has a specifically designed electrode pattern on the two major surfaces perpendicular to its thickness along which polarization is induced. The process-test results have indicated that the sensor not only is sensitive to excessive impact forces exerted on the devices to be bonded but also can track changes in the ultrasonic amplitude proficiently during bonding. Good correlation between the sensor outputs and the bond quality has been established. This smart transducer has good potential to be used in automatic process-control systems for ultrasonic wire bonding.
The adsorption of N-[(E)-Pyridin-2-ylmethylidene] aniline, a Schiff base, on to mild steel surface in 1M HCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions and the consequent corrosion protection were studied employing weight loss method, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. DFT calculations were performed to investigate its interaction with the metal surface at the atomic level to understand its inhibition mechanism. The adsorption process is well described by the Langmuir isotherm. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption is spontaneous and the interaction of the inhibitor at the mild steel surface is mainly through physisorption. The Ra values obtained in AFM studies for the uninhibited and inhibited sample in HCl media respectively are 0.756 and 0.559 ㎛, and that in H2SO4 media are 0.411 and 0.406 ㎛. The lesser roughness values of the inhibited sample shows the adsorption of the molecules onto the mild surface. The inhibition efficiencies were found to improve with concentration of the inhibitor and the maximum efficiency was observed at 400ppm in all the investigation methods adopted. The inhibitor was found to exhibit a higher efficiency in HCl media (95.7%) than in H2SO4 (92.8%). The theoretical and experimental results are found to be in good agreement.
