  • In this paper, we propose a security architecture for HDLC-based T4 class common data link. The common data links are composed of point-to-point, multi-to-point, and point-to-multi mode. For multi-to-point mode, one node has a bundle of point-to-point links with different end-point on the other side of the links. Thus multi-to-point mode can be considered as a bundle of point-to-point mode. Point-to-multi mode is broadcasting link. For point-to-point mode we adopted robust security network scheme to establish a secure data link, and for multi-to-point mode we use broadcast encryption scheme based on ID-based cryptography to distribute encryption key for broadcasting message encryption. We also included MACsec technology for point-to-point data link security. Computational and communicational complexity analysis on the broadcast encryption have been done.

  • Ultra Wide Bandwidth (UWB) spread-spectrum techniques will playa key role in short range wireless connectivity supporting high bit rates availability and low power consumption. UWB can be used in the design of wireless local and personal area networks providing advanced integrated multimedia services to nomadic users within hot-spot areas. Thus the assessment of the possible interference caused by UWB devices on already existing narrowband and wideband systems is fundamental to ensure nonconflicting coexistence and, therefore, to guarantee acceptance of UWB technology worldwide. In this paper, we study the coexistence issues between an indoor UWB-based system (hot-spot) and outdoor point to point (PP) links and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) systems operating in the 3.5 - 5.0 GHz frequency range. We consider a realistic UWB master/slave system architecture and we show through computer simulation, that in all practical cases UWB system can coexist with PP and FWA without causing any dangerous interference.

Abstract A monotone polygon consists of n vertices and is a union of two monotone chains with respect to some line segment in the plane. A watchman route with minimum-links is a polygonal path such that each point in the interior of the polygon can be visible from at least one point along the route. There may be more than one watchman route with minimum links for given monotone polygon. In this paper, we present an algorithm with O(n) time that finds a shortest watchman route among the watchman routes with minimum links in a monotone polygon.

  • This paper briefly introduces a strategy of data links between EMS and SCADA systems for the KEPCO's EMS project. For the data links, front end/communication processors are adopted that provide for protocol conversion and communication processing in parallel with EMS/SCADA processing. The data link configuration for a communication channel is point to point links. The EMS - hardware and software - has capability of handling links utilizing both bisync protocol and X.25 (Level 1 and 2)protocol for the data link protocol.

  • The deployment of high capacity backhaul is required due to explosive growth in mobile data services. For rapid backhaul deployment, point to point microwave is a much easier and cheaper technology. The space diversity scheme is used in point to point microwave links. The purpose of space diversity is to overcome fading by combining signals from two separate receiver antennas. For signal combining algorithm, maximum power and minimum distortion methods were used and these algorithms were reported not to be good enough for robustness in selective fading. In this paper, a more practically efficient signal combining scheme from the main and diversity branch is proposed and evaluated in selective fading channel. The proposed algorithm has shown significant performance improvement in terms of signal spectrum.

  • A steel shear wall with double-tapered links and in-plane reference was developed for assisting the assessment of the structural condition of a building after an earthquake while maintaining the original role of the wall as a passive damper device. The double-tapered link subjected to in-plane shear deformation is designed to deform torsionally after the onset of local buckling and works as an indicator of the maximum shear deformation sustained by the shear wall during an earthquake. This paper first examines the effectiveness of double-tapered links in the assessment of the structural condition under various types of loading. A design procedure using a baseline incremental two-cycle loading protocol is verified numerically and experimentally. Meanwhile, in-plane reference links are introduced to double-tapered links and greatly enhance objectivity in the inspection of notable torsional deformation with the naked eye. Finally, a double-layer system, which consists of a layer with double-tapered links and a layer with rectangular links made of low-yield-point steel, is tested to demonstrate the feasibility of realizing both structural condition assessment and enhanced energy dissipation.

  • In this paper, a numerical algorithm for the kinematic analysis of a multi-link five-point suspension system is presented. The kinematic analysis is carried out in terms of the rectangular Cartesian coordinates of some defined points in the links and at the joints. Geometric constraints are introduced to fix the relative positions between the points belonging to the same rigid body. Position, velocity and acceleration analyses are carried out. The presented formulation in terms or this system of coordinates is simple and involves only elementary mathematics. The results of the kinematic analysis are presented and discussed.

  • Various types of B-ISDN bearer connection can take place according to access types of endpoint equipments in call and number of connectio between endpoints. In this paper, performance of application signalling protocol on three basic facilities of B-ISDN CS-2 signalling system, such as connection of point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and multiconnection call, is evaluated and compared. For performacne evaluation, experimental model of B-ISDN application signalling protocol is implemented and respective message processing time of each process is measured. By applying message processing time to local exchange system, cal processing capacity of application signalling protocol on three basic connection types is evaluated by simulation method. In this paper, local exchange system is considered to have two ATM NNI links and four ATM UNI links.

  • Satellite communication systems will play an important role in establishing high-speed information communication network ddue to the characteristics of flexibility of bandwidth, mobile communication, wide coverage, multipoint and broadcasting. Also satellite systems have the capability to supply terrestrial B-ISDN with flexible links for accessing networks as well as trunking networks. Therefore, satellites must provide compatibility to earth-based B-ISDN signalling interface, services and network capability. This paper proposed interworking model between terrestrial B-ISDN and satellite B-ISDN signalling protocol and illustrated basic call-process procedure of satellite B-ISDN signalling protocol supporting point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connection.

  • This paper is concerned with the performance evaluation of loss networks. We shall review the Erlang Fixed Point (EFP) method for estimating the blocking probabilities, which is based on an assumption that links are blocked independently. For networks with linear structure, the behaviour of adjacent links can be highly correlated. We shall give particular attention to recently-developed fixed-point methods which specifically account for the dependencies between neighbouring links. For the network considered here, namely a ring network with two types of traffic, these methods produce relative errors typically $10^{-5}$ of that found using the basic EFP approximation.
