This paper describes the variable speed drive of an induction motor by the line commutated inverter, which is operated in the forced commutation mode from start-up to operating point of load commutation. A novel forced-commutation circuit is proposed in this paper. The selection range of leading condenser to decide load commutation starting point is simulated by the sampling data of a general purpose IM and a high speed IM. The experiment to drive IM by a line commutated inverter with the proposed forced commutated circuits is performed. There was no problem in driving IM from standstill to starting point of load commutation by a line commutated inverter with forced commutation.

In this paper, we propose Bayesian procedure for the multiple change points analysis in a sequence of fractions nonconforming. We first compute the Bayes factor for detecting the existence of no change, a single change or multiple changes. The Gibbs sampler with the Metropolis-Hastings subchain is run to estimate parameters of the change point model, once the number of change points is identified. Finally, we apply the results developed in this paper to both a real and simulated data.
In the site for apartment construction, the contaminated soils of the heavy metal and the oil were appeared. The representative soil samples were sampled at 7 sampling points. To confirm the geotechnical stability of the contaminated soils, the environmental checks for the heavy metal and the oil. The soils of 2 sampling points were contaminated heavily, so it was estimated that these soils must be disused. For 1 sampling point of the slightly contaminated soil, to confirm the re-applicability of fill material, the stability analysis was performed and it was concluded that this soil will be able to re-use.

This paper presents a new method of sampling the climatic data for infrared signature analysis. Historical hourly data from a stationary marine buoy of KMA(Korean Meteorological Administration) are used to select a small number of sample points (N=100) to adequately cover the range of statistics(PDF, CDF) displayed by the original data set (S=56,670). The method uses a coarse bin to subdivide the variable space ($3^5$=243 bins) to make sample points cover the original data range, and a single-point ranking system to select individual points so that uniform coverage (1/N = 0.01) is obtained for each variable. The principal component analysis is used to calculate a joint probability of the coupled climatic variables. The selected sample data show good agreement to the original data set in statistical distribution and they will be used for statistical analysis of infrared signature and susceptibility of naval ships.

This paper presents the design of a low-voltage wide-band switched-capacitor (SC) filter for wireless communication receiver applications. The filter is the 5th-order Elliptic lowpass filter. With the clock frequency of 50MHz implying that an effective sampling frequency is 100MHz with double sampling scheme, the cut-off frequency of the filter is programmable to be 1.25MHz, 2.5MHz, 5MHz and 10MHz. For low-power systems powered by a single-cell battery, the SC filter was elaborately designed to operate at 1.2V power supply. Simulation result shows that the 3rd-order input intercept point (IIP3) can be up to 27dBm. The filter was fabricated in a $0.25-{\mu}m$ 1P5M standard CMOS technology and measured frequency responses show good agreement with the simulation ones. The current consumption is 34mA at a 1.2V power supply.
This study was taken in general hospital, hotel, shopping center, underground cafe, school, house, for the purpose of investigating the distribution of indoor radon concentration in urban area, by E-PERM which approved U.S. EPA, between August and November 1999. There are two sampling Places were exceed 148 ㏃/㎥(4 pCi/L; U.S EPA remedial level), difference mean is 24.0㏃/㎥ when compared with underground vs. aboveground indoor radon concentration in the same building and ratio is 1.6, so underground area is higher than aboveground (p<0.05). Influencing factors were examined. They related to the location of sampler(detector) open or near the door is lower radon concentration than inside portion, which explains probably open area has better ventilated air and dilutes indoor radon concentration. Temperature has a negative relationship (p<0.05) with indoor radon concentration and relative humidity has a positive (p<0.05) Simultaneously to investigate water radon concentration, collected piped-water and the results were very low, which is the same in piped-water concentration other countries. In conclusion, underground indoor radon concentration is higher than aboveground. Concentration was related to sampling spot, open portion is lower than inside. Higher the temperature, lower the indoor radon concentrations. On the other hand higher the relative humidity, higher the indoor radon concentrations. Indoor radon concentration is influenced by sampling point, temperature, relative humidity.
Kudoa septempunctata, a myxosporean parasite that infects olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus is known to cause Kudoa food poisoning. Entire trunk muscle (ETM) is used for diagnosis of the parasite in fish and this method demands sacrifice of the host, causing a loss of commercial value. We developed a non-destructive method that uses a plastic syringe-style implanter to draw the sample, called the part-point muscle (PPM) sampling technique. We validated the PPM method in fish infected with K. septempunctata at the level detectable by the ETM method. We confirmed that the PPM method is equally sensitive in comparison to the ETM method for diagnosing K. septempunctata spores in olive flounder muscle. Our study also confirmed that the parasite is uniformly distributed in the dorsal muscle of infected fish. Over a period of 1 month, we observed no mortality of the host fish used for sampling by the PPM method. Thus, our studies demonstrate that the PPM sampling technique is an efficient, non-destructive method for diagnosing K. septempunctata in olive flounder.
Mosquitoes are the vectors of a number of viral diseases in cattle, such as Akabane disease, bovine ephemeral fever, Ainovirus infection, Chuzan virus infection, and Ibaraki disease. These diseases are transmitted from an infected animal to a non-infected host via the blood feeding of the vector. In Korea, the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Services, Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is responsible for planning, implementation, laboratory investigations and reporting the results of the national surveillance program for mosquito-borne bovine diseases (MBD). The surveillance program, which was started in 1993, focused to determine the seroprevalence of each disease in cattle herds in space and time. From the epidemiological point of view, more important component of the surveillance program is to monitor infection rates in vectors for specific pathogens because this information is essential for a more precise understanding the dynamics of these diseases in a given environment and for determining risk of transmission. The aim of this study was to describe and compare methods for estimation of vector infection rates using maximum likelihood (MLE) and minimum infection rate in pooled samples. Factors affecting MLE such as number of pools, pooling size and diagnostic test performance are also discussed, assuming some hypothetical sampling scenarios for MBD.
The performance based design in fire detection system, the effect of high airflow and dilution of smoke produced in any fire situation serve to increase the response time of point-type smoke detectors. This study investigated the smoke density of ceiling, under the air stream and in normal status when fire type is smoldering fires. The result of study, smoke generated in the fire was swept away from nearby spot type smoke detector which failed to actuate because dispersed in diluted form around the room. The concept of performance based design in fire detection system of protected area influenced by high airflow provided the need of active fire detection system such as air sampling smoke detection system.
The real time scheduling is a key research area in high performance computing and has been a source of challenging problems. A periodic task is an infinite sequence of task instance where each job of a task comes in a regular period. The RMS (Rate Monotonic Scheduling) algorithm has the advantage of a strong theoretical foundation and holds out the promise of reducing the need for exhaustive testing of the scheduling. Many real-time systems built in the past based their scheduling on the Cyclic Executive Model because it produces predictable schedules which facilitate exhaustive testing. In this work we propose hybrid scheduling method which combines features of both of these scheduling algorithms. The original rate monotonic scheduling algorithm didn't consider the uniform sampling tasks in the real time systems. We have enumerated some issues when the RMS is applied to our hybrid scheduling method. We found the scheduling bound for the hard real-time systems which include the uniform sampling tasks. The suggested hybrid scheduling algorithm turns out to have some advantages from the point of view of the real time system designer, and is particularly useful in the context of large critical systems. Our algorithm can be useful for real time system designer who must guarantee the hard real time tasks.
