  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of loading at three different occlusal surface position of the gold alloy crown on the stress distributions in surrounding bone, utilizing 3-dimensional finite element method. A three dimensional finite element model of an implant with simplified gold alloy crown and supporting bone was developed for this study. A oblique or vertical load of 100 N was applied at the following position at each FE model : 1) center of occlusal surface, 2) a point on the buccal side away from center of occlusal surface (COS) by 2.8mm, 3) a point on the lingual side away from COS by 2.8mm. In the results, Minimum von Mises stresses under vertical load or oblique load of 100N were about 6MPa at the center of occlusal surface and about 40MPa at the point on the buccal side, respectively. From the results we could come to the conclusion that occlusive loading position could be an important factor for establishment of structural safety of supporting bone.

  • This paper deals with tipping over of hydraulic excavator's crane work. If the excavator lifts too heavy weight, the excavator will be tipped up. This is account for 38% of whole excavator accidents. In this paper, tipping-over load which is maximum load of excavator can lift with displacement of excavator links, real load and tipping-over rate are computed with Zero Moment Point theory. ZMP is verified with simulation and experiment.

  • The effects of the main bearing stiffness combined with vertical non-torque force on the input load and shaft deflection of a gearbox were investigated for the three-point suspension drive train of a wind turbine. A finite element analysis model for the drive train was studied experimentally, and its applicability to the present study was verified. The results show that, as the main bearing stiffness is increased, the input load of the gearbox decreases, whereas the input shaft deflection increases. The stiffness component for the pitch moment has the largest influence on the gearbox input load. Although the gearbox life increases at a higher main bearing stiffness, the economic efficiency and durability of the entire drive train system should also be considered in the selection of the main bearing stiffness.

  • The value of the mode I interlamina fracture toughness, GIC, is calculated by experimental compliance method, modified compliance method and beam theory. The value of the mode II interlamina fracture toughness, GIC, is evaluated by beam method, theory beam theory and compliance method. This paper describes the effect of load pint displacement rate and speicimen geometries for mode I and II interlaminar fracture toughness of glass fiber reinforced plastic composites by using double cantilever beam (DCB) and end notched flexure (ENF) specimen. For the load point displacement rate of increases whereas the value of 2,6 and 10 mm/min the value of GIC decrease as load point displacement rate increases whereas the value of GIC is found to be no significant effect. The value of GIC decreases as initial crack length increases. The fractured surface of the DCB and ENF samples are examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

  • This paper designs the optimal PID controller for load frequency control on 2-area power system. Genetic algorithm is utilized to optimize parameters of PID controller which is applied to power system. Using two-point crossover, uniform crossover and one-point crossover, Search performance of genetic algorithm with each crossover method is considered. In case of load variation in 1-area, the dynamic characteristic of power system is considered. The simulation results show that the proposed PID controller is better control performance than PID controller using Ziegler-Nichols method.

  • This study investigated characteristics of buckling load and effective buckling length by member rigidity of dome-typed space frame which was sensitive to initial conditions. A critical point and a buckling load were computed by analyzing the eigenvalues and determinants of the tangential stiffness matrix. The hexagonal pyramid model and star dome were selected for the case study in order to examine the nodal buckling and member buckling in accordance with member rigidity. From the numerical results, an effective buckling length factor of adopted models was bigger than that of Euler buckling for the case of fixed boundary. These numerical models indicated that the influence of nodal buckling was greater than that of member buckling as member rigidity was higher. Besides, there was a tendency that the bifurcation appeared on the equilibrium path before limit point in the member buckling model.

  • This paper analyzes multiple active management (AM) techniques of active distribution network (ADN), and proposes an optimal coordination model of intermittent distributed generation (IDG) accommodation considering the timing characteristic of load and IDG. The objective of the model is to maximize the daily amount of IDG accommodation under the uncertainties of IDG and load. Various active management techniques such as IDG curtailment, on-load tap changer (OLTC) tap adjusting, voltage regulator (VR) tap adjusting, shunt capacitors compensation and so on are fully considered. Genetic algorithm and Primal-Dual Interior Point Method (PDIPM) is used for the model solving. Point estimate method is used to simulate the uncertainties. Different scenarios are selected for the IDG accommodation capability investigation under different active management schemes. Finally a modified IEEE 123 case is used to testify the proposed accommodation model, the results show that the active management can largely increase the IDG accommodation and penetration.

  • According to the technical guideline of water pollutant load management, the rainfall captured ratio which can be estimated by the empirical formula is an important element to estimate reduction loads of non-point pollutants water quality control basin. In this study, the rainfall captured ratio is altered to stormwater captured ratio considering its meaning in the technical guideline of water pollutant load management, and the new empircal formula of stormwater captured ratio is suggested. In order to do this, we calculate stormwater captured ratio by using the hourly rainfall data of seven urban weather stations (Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gangreung, Seoul, Gwangju, and Jeju) for 43 years. The regression coefficients of the existed empirical formula cannot reflect the catchment properties at all, because they are fixed values regardless of regions. However the empirical formula of stormwater captured ratio has flexible regression coefficients by runoff coefficient(C), so it is allowed to consider the characteristics of runoff in catchment. It is expected that reduction loads of storage based water quality control basin can be more reasonably estimated than before.

  • In this work, we predict a true fracture strain using load-displacement curves from tensile test and finite element analysis (FEA), and suggest a method for acquiring true stress-strain (SS) curves by predicted fracture strain. We first derived the true SS curve up to necking point from load-displacement curve. As the beginning, the posterior necking part of true SS curve is linearly extrapolated with the slope at necking point. The whole SS curve is then adopted for FE simulation of tensile test. The Bridgman factor or suitable plate correction factors are applied to pre and post FEA. In the load-true strain curve from FEA, the true fracture strain is determined as the matching point to test fracture load. The determined true strain is validated by comparing with test fracture strain. Finally, we complete the true SS curve by combining the prior necking part and linear part, the latter of which connects necking and predicted fracture points.

  • The distance in load parameter space to the closest saddle node bifurcation (CSNB) point provides the worst case power margin to voltage instability and the left eigenvector at CSNB identifies the most effective direction to steer the system to maximize voltage stability under contingency. This paper presents an improved direct method for computing CSNB: the order of nonlinear systems equations is reduced to about twice of the size of load flow equations in contrast to about three-times in Dobson's direct method; the initial guess for the direct method is computed efficiently and robustly by combined use of continuation power flow, a pair of multiple load flow solution with Lagrange interpolation. It is also shown that voltage stability may be enhanced significantly with shift of generations in the direction of the left eigenvector at CSNB.
