Statement of problem: Resonance frequency analysis (RFA) has been increasingly served as a non-invasive and objective method for clinical monitoring of implant stability. Many clinical studies must be required for standardized baseline data using RFA. Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate RFA value changes in two stage surgery group and one stage surgery group in patients. Material and method: Forty-seven mandibles in consecutively implant installed patients were selected for this study and 141 fixtures were installed. Ninety-three fixtures were double threaded, machined surface design ($Br{\aa}anemark^{(R)}$ MK III, Nobel Biocare AB, Goteborg, Sweden) and 48 fixtures were root form, threaded, HA-coated surface one ($Replace^{TM}$, Steri-Oss/Nobel Biocare AB, USA). Among those, each 10 fixture was installed in one stage group patients. ISQ values were measured using $Osstell^{TM}$ (Integration Diagnostics Ltd. Sweden) during fixture installation, at healing abutment connection and in the loading period for two stage surgery group patients and during at each 4, 6, 8, 10, 12week and in the loading phase for one stage surgery group patients and evaluated the changes according to the time and fixture type. Results: In two stage surgery group, mean and SO of ISQ values of machined surface implants were $76.85{\pm}3.74,\;75.76{\pm}5.04,\;75.73{\pm}4.41$ and those of HA-coated surface implant were $75.05{\pm}6.23,\;77.58{\pm}5.23,\;78.32{\pm}4.29$ during fixtures installation, at healing abutment connection and in the loading period, respectively. In one-stage surgery group, the ISQ values of machined surface and HA-coated surface implants decreased until 4 or 6 week and maintained at plateau for 1-3 week and increased to the loading period. Conclusions: Machined and HA-coated surface implants showed minimal ISQ changes with time if they were installed at the sites showing at least intact cortical plate and good bone qualities. And HA-coated implants had a tendency to show somewhat increased ISQ values with time.
Dangsanbong volcano, which is located on the coast of the western promontory of Cheju Island, occurs in such a regular pattern on the sequences which represent an excellent example of an eruptive cycle. The volcano comprises a horseshoe-shaped tuff cone and a younger nested cinder cone on the crater floor, which are overlain by a lava cap at the top of the cinder cone, and wide lava plateau in the moat between two cones and in the northern part. The volcanic sequences suggest volcanic processes that start with Surtseyan eruption, progress through Strombolian eruption and end with Hawaiian eruption, and then are followed by rock fall from sea cliff of the tuff cone and by air fall from another crater. It is thought that the eruptive environments of the tuff cone could be mainly emergent because the present cone is located on the coast, and standing body of sea water could play a great role. It is thought that the now emergent part of the tuff cone was costructed subaerially because there is no evidence of marine reworking. The emergent tuff cone is characterized by distinctive steam-explosivity that results primarily from a bulk interaction between rapidly ascending magma and external water. The sea water gets into the vent by flooding accross or through the top or breach of northern tephra cone. Dangsanbong tuff cone was constructed from Surtseyan eruption which went into with tephra finger jetting explosion in the early stage, late interspersed with continuous upruch activities, and from ultra-Surtseyan jetting explosions producting base surges in the last. When the enclosure of the vent by a long-lived tephra barrier would prevent the flooding and thus allow the vent to dry out, the phreatomagmatic activities ceased to transmit into magmatic activity of Strombolian eruption, which constructed a cinder cone on the crater floor of the tuff cone Strombolian eruption ceased when magma in the conduit gradually became depleted in gas. In the Dangsanbong volcano, the last magmatic activity was Hawaiian eruption which went into with foundation and effusion of basalt lava.
The aim of this study is to compare the total polyphenol, total flavonoid, and antioxidative activity among 5 cultivars of Korean pears cultivated in Korea. As a result of the analysis for the phenolic substance of 5 cultivars, such as Wonwhang, Sunwhang, Whangkeumbae, Chuwhang, and Shingo, the content of total polyphenol was higher in Shingo and Chuwhang, and the content of total flavonoid showed higher levels in Wonwhang and Sunwhang. In addition, this study found that DPPH radical-scavenging ability was the highest in Shingo and that the part of fruit skin showed more favorable reaction to radical ability than fruit flesh. It was also found that much better antioxidative activity was shown for the methanol solvent extraction than for the ethanol solvent extraction. The nitrite-scavenging ability showed the best for Wonwhang and Chuwhang of the cultivars and much better reaction for the methanol solvent extraction than for the ethanol solvent extraction just like the case of DPPH radical-scavenging ability. Further, nitrite-scavenging ability appeared much better reaction for the fruit skin than for the fruit flesh, and antioxidative activity dropped for the higher the range on the pH scale. From the results of this study, Korean pears are worthy of developing as a natural functional food and substance for beauty treatment through the research on bioactivity.
The variation of acidity, conductivity, and ion components in precipitation depending on the dominant wind direction was investigated from January, 2009 to December 2009 in Busan, Korea. Both southwesterly and northeasterly winds were dominant in Busan area. The volume-weighted mean acidity showed pH 7, and the high conductivity indicated 200 ${\mu}scm^{-1}$ in westerly wind. The volume-weighted mean equivalent concentration showed higher value of $K^+$ and $Cl^-$ in all wind directions. The composition ratio of $NO{_3}^-/SO{_4}^{2-}$ showed over 3 in northerly wind. The neutralization factors have been found to have higher value for potassium ion in northeasterly, easterly, southwesterly, and westerly winds compared with different wind directions, which indicated significant neutralization of acidic components over the region by potassium. Also, the concentration of sea salt has been found over 800 ${\mu}sm^{-3}$ in northeasterly and southwesterly winds. Air masses passing through Manchuria, Inner Mongolia plateau, China, and Russia in spring, autumn, and winter covered Busan, Korea in northerly, westerly, and northwesterly winds. However, air masses passing through the ocean in summer covered Busan, Korea in easterly, northeasterly, and southwesterly winds. Therefore, the variation of acidity, conductivity, and ionic components contained in precipitation shows each seasonal characteristics with prevailing wind systems between the continental and coastal area in Busan, Korea.
$Li_4Sn_xTi_{5-x}O_{12}$ was manufactured by high energy ball milling (HEBM) and used as an anode material for lithium ion battery. Various amount of $SnO_2$was added to $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ and heated at different temperatures. The purpose of this research was to see the effect of $SnO_2$ addition into $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$. Manufactured samples were analyzed by TGA, XRD, SEM, PSA. Battery cycler was used to test the charge/discharge properties of active materials. Heat treatment temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ was needed to make a stable structure of $Li_4Sn_xTi_{5-x}O_{12}$ and the particle size distribution was $0.2{\sim}0.6\;{\mu}m$. Charge/discharge process was repeated for 50 cycles at room temperature. The initial capacity was 168mAh/g and the voltage plateau was observed at 1.55V(Li/$Li^+$).
Sulfamate-chloride baths were fabricated to study the properties of the electrodeposited Ni and NiCo thin films. The dependences of current efficiency, deposit composition of Ni and Co, residual stress, surface morphology and microstructure of electrodeposited Ni and NiCo thin films on CoCl2 concentration in sulfamate-chloride baths were investigated. The current efficiency was measured to be more than about 90%, independent of the changes of CoCl2 concentration in the baths. Residual stress of Ni and NiCo thin films was increased from about 45 to about 250 MPa with varying CoCl2 concentration from 0 to 0.210 M CoCl2 in the baths and then reached to a plateau, about 250 MPa above 0.420 M CoCl2 concentration. Nodular surface morphologies were observed at most CoCl2 concentrations in the baths except 0.210 M. NiCo thin film electrodeposited from the bath with 0.210 M CoCl2 concentration showed an acicular surface morphology. Pure Ni thin film consists of FCC(111), FCC(200), FCC(220), and FCC(311) peaks without any preferred orientation. On the other hand NiCo thin films make up of HCP(100), FCC(111), HCP(101), FCC(200), FCC(220) or HCP(110), FCC(311) or HCP(112) and FCC(222) peaks. It was revealed from the analysis of XRD result that FCC(111) peak at the NiCo thin film electrodeposited from the bath with 0.084 M CoCl2 concentration can be regarded as the preferred orientation. However the peak of the preferred orientation was changed to FCC(220) or HCP(110) above 0.084 M CoCl2 concentration in the baths. Then the intensity of FCC(220) or HCP(110) peak was gradually decreased with increasing CoCl2 concentration further. The crystalline size of pure Ni thin film was observed to be about 53 ㎛ and those of NiCo thin films were in the range of 35~45 ㎛.
Maximal oxygen uptake was measured in thirty-three secondary school girls by means of the treadmill test. Eighteen middle school girls aged 14.0 (range: $13.0{\sim}15.9$) years and fifteen high school girls aged 16.9 (range: $16.0{\sim}18.0$) years served as subjects. Maximal treadmill run lasted for 2 minutes and 20 seconds and the expired air was collected in a Douglas bag through a J-valve during the last one minute period. In general, absolute values of various measurements in the high school girls were greater than those of the middle school girls. When values were expressed on the body weight or lean body weight basis, however, work capacity of middle school girls was superior to that of the high school girls. The detailed results are as follows: 1. In middle school girls maximal oxygen uptake was 1.78 l/min., 47.4 ml/kg body weight, 12.3 ml/cm body height, and 61.7ml/kg lean body mass. In high school girls maximal oxygen uptake was 1.93 l/min., 39.7ml/kg body weight, 12.3 ml/cm body height, and 51.2 ml/kg LBM. Although the absolute value of maximal oxygen uptake was greater in high school girls than in middle school girls, values expressed on the body weight basis showed the reverse trend, namely, values of the middle school girls was greater than those of the high school girls. 2. The ratio of maximal to resting oxygen uptake was 8.8 in the middle school girls and was 10.2 in the high school girls. 3. Maximal pulmonary ventilation in the middle school girls was 55.3 l/min. and 66.1 l/min. in the high school girls. The ratio of maximal to resting pulmonary ventilation was 10.2 in the middle school girls and 10.1 in the high school girls. 4. The correlation between body weight and maximal oxygen uptake was relatively high, namely, r=0.79 both in middle and high school girls. The correlation coefficient between body weight and maximal pulmonary ventilation was a little less that of between maximal oxygen uptake and showed a value of r=0.60 both in middle and high school girls. The lean body mass was a poor reference of maximal oxygen uptake or maximal pulmonary ventilation as compared to body weight. The correlation between maximal oxygen uptake and maximal pulmonary ventilation was high and the coefficient of correlation in middle school girls was 0.927 and in high school girls it was 0.856. 5. Maximal ventilation equivalent was 30.9 liters in middle school girls and 33.9 liters in high school girls. This indicated that no hyperventilation was induced during the maximal of oxygen uptake exercise period as related to the maximal oxygen uptake. 6. Heart rate reached to the peak value within 1.5 minutes after beginning of maximal oxygen uptake run and remained at the same peak plateau level throughout the entire running period. Heart rate decreased steeply on cessation of running and subsided slowly thereafter. The maximal heart rate was 184 beat/min. in middle school girls and 189 beat/min. in high school girls. 7. Maximal oxygen pulse was 9.4 in middle school girls and 9.9 ml/beat in high school girls.
The mercury film thin layer flow cell (MFTLFC) which yielded the highest sensitivity for the electrochemical reduction of doxorubicin was constructed by coating the glassy carbon working electrode (GCE; $A=0.208cm^2$) with $5{\mu}L$ of HgO coating solution (0.5% HgO + 0.25% polystyrene/cyclohexanone) and subsequently followed by applying a potential of -0.40 V for 300 sec in the flow stream of an acetate buffer of pH 4.5. The voltammogram of doxorubicin reached the diffusion current plateau at -0.53 V vs. a Ag/AgCl (3 M NaCl) in the MFTLFC. The diffusion current (Id) of doxorubicin at the MFTLFC was 1.7 times greater than the Id obtained at the TLFC employing a bare glassy carbon working electrode. When the peak areas (electric charge) were plotted vs. concentrations of standard anthracyclines, the calibration factors of doxorubicin and daunorubicin were $1.12{\times}10^8{\mu}C/M$ (coefficient of determination; $R^2$: 0.969) and $0.98{\times}10^8{\mu}C/M$> ($R^2$: 0.999), respectively in the concentration range between $1.0{\times}10^{-8}M$ and $1.0{\times}10^{-6}M$.
This study was carried out he effects of water activity on the nonenzymatic browning reactions of dry milk powders. Samples (Dry Whole Milk DWM, Nonfat Dry Milk NFDM) stored at $55^{\circ}C$ were analyzed for $O_2,\;CO_2$ and $H_2O$ by Gas chromatographic method. The brown color which developed from the Maillard reaction was also measured by a reflective spectrophotometer. And linear regression equations and the correlation coeffcients were determined for $O_2,\;CO_2$ and brown color vs. storage, and the results are as follows. The amount of brown and off-flavor development increase as the water activities increase about 0.44 Aw during storage. Both DWM and NFDM milk products show a plateau in water absorption between the 0.33 and 0.44 water activities. DWM produced more browning than NFDM which may be partially due to the carbonyl amine reaction. The $CaCl_2$ solution may exude a water activity lower than 0.44 and varies greatly with temperatures. Oxygen is depleted as brown color development.
Topex/Poseidon satellite, launched in Auguest 1992, has provided more 5 years of very good quality data. Efficient improvements, either about instrumental accuracy or about sea level data correction, have been made so that Topex/Poseidon has become presently a wonderful tool for many researchers. The first mission data of 73 cycles, September 1992 - August 1994, was used to our study in order to know characteristics of environmental correction factors in the Amsterdam-Crozet-Kerguelen region of the South Indian Ocean. According to standard procedures as defined under user handbook for sea surface height data processes, then we have chosen cycles 43 as the cycle of reference because this cycle has provided the completed data for measurement points and has presented the exacted position of ground track compared to another cycles. It was computed variations of various factors for correction in ascending ground track 103(Amsterdam-Kerguelen continental plateau) and descending ground track170 (Crozet basin). Here the variations of ionosphere, dry troposphere, humid troposphere, electromagnetic bias, elastic tide and loading tide were generally very smaller as a few of cm, but the variations of oceanic tide(30-35cm) and inverted barometer(15-30cm) were higher than another factors. For the correction of ocean tide, our model(CEFMO: Code d' Elements Finis pour la Maree Oceanique) - This is hydrodynamic model that is very well applicated in all oceanic situations - was used because this model has especially good solution in the coastal and island area as the open sea area. Conclusionally, it should be understood that the variation of ocean free surface is mainly under the influence of tides(>80-90%) in the Amsterdam - Crozet- Kerguelen region of the South Indian Ocean.
