This paper deals with the geometric nonlinear bending analysis of laminated composite stiffened plates subjected to uniform transverse loading. The eight-noded degenerated shell element and three-noded degenerated curved beam element with five degrees of freedom per node are adopted in the present analysis to model the plate and stiffeners respectively. The Green-Lagrange strain displacement relationship is adopted and the total Lagrangian approach is taken in the formulation. The convergence study of the present formulation is carried out first and the results are compared with the results published in the literature. The stiffener element is reformulated taking the torsional rigidity in an efficient manner. The effects of lamination angle, depth of stiffener and number of layers, on the bending response of the composite stiffened plates are considered and the results are discussed.

In this work, a novel higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) for static and free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates is proposed. Unlike the conventional HSDTs, the proposed theory has a novel displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms and contains fewer unknowns. Equations of motion are obtained by using Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions for the bending and dynamic investigation are determined for simply supported FG plates. The computed results are compared with 3D and quasi-3D solutions and those provided by other plate theories. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed HSDT can achieve the same accuracy of the conventional HSDTs which have more number of variables.

In this paper, It is the effect of using fiber sheet (Carbon Fiber Sheet & Aramid Fiber Sheet) and Steel Plate for reinforced concrete beam. 25 specimens are tested, 16 specimens are for bending capacity and the other are for shear capacity. In the case of bending testing, the kind and quantity of the reinforcement materials, the bondage and the existence of crack were selected as experimental variables. In the case of shear testing, It is testified the effect of reinforcement with the variables of the method of reinforcement (side type and U type). As a result, Using the reinforcing materials can increase the capacity of bending and shear stress.

The present work deals with the thermomechanical bending response of functionally graded plates resting on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundations. Theoretical formulations are based on a recently developed refined trigonometric shear deformation theory (RTSDT). The theory accounts for trigonometric distribution of transverse shear stress, and satisfies the free transverse shear stress conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factor. Unlike the conventional trigonometric shear deformation theory, the present refined trigonometric shear deformation theory contains only four unknowns as against five in case of other shear deformation theories. The material properties of the functionally graded plates are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness, according to a simple power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The elastic foundation is modelled as two-parameter Pasternak foundation. The results of the shear deformation theories are compared together. Numerical examples cover the effects of the gradient index, plate aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio and elastic foundation parameters on the thermomechanical behavior of functionally graded plates. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the thermomechanical bending response of functionally graded plates.

In this paper, the bending behavior of single-walled carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) laminated plates is studied using various shear deformation plate theories. Several types of reinforcement material distributions, a uniform distribution (UD) and three functionally graded distributions (FG), are inspected. A generalized higher-order deformation plate theory is utilized to derive the field equations of the CNTRC laminated plates where an analytical technique based on Navier's series is utilized to solve the static problem for simply-supported boundary conditions. A detailed numerical analysis is carried out to examine the influence of carbon nanotube volume fraction, laminated composite structure, side-to-thickness, and aspect ratios on stresses and deflection of the CNTRC laminated plates.
Recently, a long span is often required for the spacious building. Therefore the increase of stiffness is necessary to prevent floor vibration and control deformation of the building under earthquake and wind loads. For this purpose, steel beams with stiffened ends by reinforced concrete are effective. To realize such an effective reinforcement method, the smoothening of bending and shear stress transmission at the boundaries between middle-part of the steel beam and both end-parts of the steel beam with stiffened ends by reinforced concrete is required. Therefore, the fixed plate was installed at the boundary with the view of transferring the stress smoothly. This paper evaluates the method of effective transmission of bending and shear stress through the numerical analysis that is based on advanced experimental tests.

This paper deals with the static bending of various types of FGM sandwich plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations in hygrothermal environment. The elastic foundation is modeled as Pasternak's type, which can be either isotropic or orthotropic and as a special case, it converges to Winkler's foundation if the shear layer is neglected. The present FGM sandwich plate is assumed to be made of a fully ceramic core layer sandwiched by metal/ceramic FGM coats. The governing equations are derived from principle of virtual displacements based on a shear and normal deformations plate theory. The present theory takes into account both shear and normal strains effects, thus it predicts results more accurate than the shear deformation plate theories. The results obtained by the shear and normal deformation theory are compared with those available in the literature and also with those obtained by other shear deformation theories. It is concluded that the present results are slightly deviated from other results because the normal deformation effect is taken into account. Numerical results are presented to show the effects of the different parameters, such as side-to-thickness ratio, foundation parameters, aspect ratio, temperature, moisture, power law index and core thickness on the stresses and displacements of the FG sandwich plates.
This paper reports a novel steel beam-to-column connection suitable for use in the weak axis of I-section column. Monotonic and cyclic loading experimental investigations and numerical analysis of the proposed weak-axis connection were conducted, and the calculation procedure of the beam-column relative rotation angle and plastic rotation angle was developed and described in details. A comparative analysis of mechanical property and steel consumption were employed for the proposed I-section column weak-axis connection and box-section column bending connection. The result showed that no signs of fracturing were observed and the plastic hinge formed reliably in the beam section away from the skin plate under the beam end monotonic loading, and the plastic hinge formed much closer to the skin plate under the beam end cyclic loading. The fracture of welds between diaphragm and skin plate would cause an unstable hysteretic response under the column top horizontal cyclic loading. The proposed weak-axis connection system could not only simplify the design calculation progress when I-section column is adopted in frame structural design but also effectively satisfy the requirements of 'strong joint and weak member', as well as lower steel consumption.
The effect of porosity on bending and free vibration behavior of simply supported functionally graded plate reposed on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation is investigated analytically in the present paper. The modified rule of mixture covering porosity phases is used to describe and approximate material properties of the FGM plates with porosity phases. The effect due to transverse shear is included by using a new refined shear deformation theory. The number of unknown functions involved in the present theory is only four as against five or more in case of other shear deformation theories. The Poisson ratio is held constant. Based on the sinusoidal shear deformation theory, the position of neutral surface is determined and the equation of motion for FG rectangular plates resting on elastic foundation based on neutral surface is obtained through the minimum total potential energy and Hamilton's principle. The convergence of the method is demonstrated and to validate the results, comparisons are made with the available solutions for both isotropic and functionally graded material (FGM). The effect of porosity volume fraction on Al/Al2O3 and Ti-6Al-4V/Aluminum oxide plates are presented in graphical forms. The roles played by the constituent volume fraction index, the foundation stiffness parameters and the geometry of the plate is also studied.

In the line heating process, only angular distortion whose direction is perpendicular to that of a heating path is expected. However, it is observed that a deformation is induced in the direction of the heating line. Because of this, during forming a saddle type plate we experience unfavorable deformations in the unintended direction. In this paper we discuss the unwanted distortion in the manufacturing process by analyzing intermediate plates of saddle type during fabrication. For this analysis we consider the longitudinal and transversal directions separately and use the bending strain for the analysis.
