Ti-6Al-4V alloys are mainly used as dental materials due to their excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and chemical stability. However, they have a low bioactivity with bioinertness in the body. Therefore, they could not directly bond with human bone. To improve their applications, their bone bonding ability and bone formation capacity should be improved. Thus, the objective of this study was to improve the bioinert surface of titanium alloy substrate to show bioactive characteristics by performing surface modification using wollastonite powder. Commercial bioactive wollastonite powder was successfully deposited onto Ti-6Al-4V alloy using a room temperature spray process. It was found that wollastonite-coated layer showed homogeneous microstructure and uniform thickness. Corrosion resistance of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was also improved by plasma electrolytic oxidation treatment. Its wettability and bioactivity were also greatly increased by wollastonite coating. Results of this study indicate that both plasma electrolytic oxidation treatment and wollastonite coating by room temperature spray process could be used to improve surface bioactivity of Ti-6Al-4V alloy substrate.
The TiC layer was formed on Ti and Ti alloys by plasma carburizing method. The main experimental parameters for plasma car boozing were temperature and time. XRD, EDX, hardness test and corrosion test were employed to analyze the evolution and material properties of the layer. The preferred orientation of TiC layers is (220) at treated temperature of $700^{\circ}C\;and\;880^{\circ}C$ However, it is changed to (200) at temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ The thickness of carbide layer increase with increasing carburizing temperature. Highest hardness of hardened layer formed on CP-Ti was obtained at the carburizing condition of processing temperature $880^{\circ}C$ and processing time 1080min. The corrosion potential of carburizing specimen was higher than untreated CP-titanium, and corrosion potential increased as carburizing temperature and time increased. Thus the corrosion resistance of CP-Ti was greatly enhanced after plasma carburizing treatment.

In this study, low-cost, high-speed deposition, excellent processability, high mechanical strength and electrical conductivity, chemical stability and corrosion resistance of stainless steel to meet the obsessive-compulsive (0.1 mm or less) were selected CrN thin film. new price reduction to sputter deposition causes - the possibility of sublimation source for inductively coupled plasma Cr rods were attempts by DC bias. 0.6 Pa Ar inductively coupled plasmas of 2.4 MHz, 500 W, keeping Cr Rod DC bias power 30 W (900 V, 0.02 A) is applied, $N_2$ flow rate of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 sccm by varying the characteristics of were analyzed. $N_2$ flow rate increases, decreases and $Cr_2N$, CrN was found to increase. In addition to corrosion resistance and contact resistance, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity was evaluated. corrosion current density than $N_2$ 0 sccm was sure to rise in all, $N_2$ 1 sccm at $4.390{\times}10^{-7}$ (at 0.6 V) $A{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, respectively. electrical conductivity process results when $N_2$ 1 sccm 28.8 $m{\Omega}/cm^2$ with the lowest value of the contact resistance was confirmed that came out. The OES (SQ-2000) and QMS (CPM-300) using a reactive deposition process to add $N_2$ to maintain a uniform deposition rate was confirmed that.

Back ferrule is a circular ring shaped metallic object which is used for fastening, joining or reinforcement during the tube fitting as well as to prevent leakage. Therefore, during tube fitting the leading edge of the back ferrule should be sufficiently hard enough to prevent leakage. In our research, we concentrated the improvement of two major factors. Firstly, to improve the surface hardness of the back ferrule made by AISI 316 Stainless Steel. Secondly, the enhancement of corrosion resistance of back ferrule after plasma treatment. Initially, the corrosion resistance and hardness of the back ferrule (both commercial and without treated) was not good enough for tube fitting but after applying plasma treatment with suitable conditions on ferrule, we improved the corrosion resistance and hardness of the back ferrule dramatically.

The corrosion of structural steel used in the construction industry is increasing due to the industrialization where many aggressive ions released in the atmosphere. Therefore, in the present study Al coating was deposited by arc and plasma arc thermal spray process and compared their effectiveness in simulated weathering condition i.e. Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE) J2334 solution which mostly contain Cl- and CO32- ions. Different analytical techniques have been used to characterize the coating and draw the corrosion mechanism. The Al coating deposited by plasma arc thermal spray process exhibited uniform, dense and layer by layer deposition resulting higher bond adhesion values. The open circuit potential(OCP) of Al coating deposited this process is exhibited more electropositive values than arc thermal spray process in SAE J2334 solution with immersion periods. The total impedance of plasma arc thermal spray process exhibited higher than arc thermal spray process. The corrosion rate of the plasma arc thermal sprayed Al coating is reduced by 20% compared to arc thermal spray process after 23 days of immersion in SAE J2334 solution.
The plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process is a relatively new surface treatment technique that produces a chemically stable and environment-friendly electrolytic coating that can be applied to all types of magnesium alloys. In this study, the characteristics of oxide film were examined after coating the extruded AZ31 alloy through the PEO process. Hard ceramic coatings were obtained on the AZ31 alloy by changing the coating time from 10min to 60min. The morphologies of the surface and the cross-section of the PEO coatings were examined by scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy, and the thickness of the coating was measured. The X-ray diffraction pattern of the coating shows that the coated layer consists mainly of the MgO and $Mg_2SiO_4$ phases after the oxidation reaction. The hardness of the coated AZ31 alloy increased with increasing coating time. In addition, the corrosion rates of the coated and uncoated AZ31 alloys were examined by salt spray tests according to ASTM B 117 and the results show that the corrosion resistance of the coated AZ31 alloy was superior to that of the un-coated AZ31 alloy.

AZ91D casting alloy requires an advanced plasma anodizing processing because large amount of defects are liable to generate during anodization. In this study, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of AZ91D Mg alloy was conducted by the application of either constant voltage or current using a pulse mode and its effects on pore formation, surface roughness and corrosion resistance were investigated. The PEO films showed a three-layer structure. The PEO film thickness was found to increase linearly with voltage. The surface roughness, Ra, ranged between $0.2{\mu}m$ and $0.3{\mu}m$. The corrosion resistance increased from RN 3.5 to 9.5 by the PEO treatment when evaluated according to the 72 hour salt spray test. The PEO-treated surface exhibited higher pitting potential than the raw material.

Behavior of stoichiometric and near-stoichiometric NiAl at plasma spray deposition, without and with a bond coat, for coating layers realization on a low alloyed steel substrate, has been investigated. In all variants, NiAl particle melting and subsequent welding at the impact with substrate were observed, forming a relatively compact and adherent coating layer with the NiAl stability maintaining - all assuring the coating layer oxidation and corrosion resistance. Good results from these points of view, also validated through corrosion tests, were obtained for 45:55 Ni:Al composition without a bond coat but adopting an Ar protective surrounding of plasma jet.
PBGA(Plastic Ball Grid Array) is composed of some materials such as PCB(Printed Circuit Board), epoxy molding compound, die attach and so on. Reliability of PBGA package is weak compared with plastic packages. The weak points of reliability are the lower resistance to popcorn cracking, which is induced by moisture absorption in PCB, and the pressure cooker test corrosion, which is the basic problem due to the material characteristics of PCB. Introducing the PCB baking and the plasma treatment cleared the popcorn cracking phenomenon. The PCB baking and plasma treatment reduced the epoxy void by eliminating the source of moisture vaporization during the epoxy curing and enhanced the adhesion between PCB and epoxy. Also, plasma treatment enhanced the wettability of epoxy on PCB. The problem of corrosion is cleared using multi-functional epoxy. This type of EMC(Epoxy Molding Compound) is recommended in package using PCB as a substrate. (Received November 19, 1999)
