A cyclophilin 1 cDNA clone(GenBank accession no.CF924191) was isolated from the taproot of C. lanceolata and designed as C1CyP1. Determination of the nucleotide sequence of C1CyPl identified an open reading frame of 525bp, which shared high homologies with cyclophilins that were previously reported in other organisms. The C1CyP1 amino acid sequence possesses 7 amino acid residue stretch(KSGKPLH) that is characteristic of plant cytosolic dehydrins. Currently available amino acid residues of plant cyclophilins were compared to examine their phylogenetic relationship to C1CyP1. In the phylogenetic analysis, based on the aligned sequences, C1CyP1 showed high homology with arabidopsis ROC2 and rice CyP1. The transcript that corresponded to C1CyP1 was abundant in callus, but only basal level of transcript was detected in stem, leaf and root. For the study in the defense mechanism against various stresses, we report expression patterns of this gene by quantative RT-PCR.

BACKGROUND: Pesticide uptake by a rotational crop after being used for the primary crop is a potential cause of violation against the pesticide law if the pesticide is not registered in the secondary crop. This study was conducted to investigate the plant back interval (PBI) of fluopyram for the rotational cultivation of radish. METHODS AND RESULTS: Two experimental approaches were performed the evaluation of residues in radish cultivated successively in soil 16 days after treated with fluopyram onto pepper plant (T1) and in radish cultivated in bare soil treated with fluopyram at PBI 30 and PBI 60 days (T2). A modified QuEChERS method coupled with LC/MS/MS analysis showed good linearity of matrix-matched standard calibration of fluopyram with the coefficient values of determination greater than 0.995. Recovery values at levels of 0.01, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.25 mg/kg ranged from average 84.9 to 117.6% with RSD less than 10%. Fluopyram residues in radish harvested from T1 and T2 were found as levels less than maximum residue limit. CONCLUSION: This study suggests 20~30 days as the PBI of fluopyram for the rotational cultivation of radish in the greenhouse soil treated with fluopyram used for pepper as the primary crop.
The plant uptake of endosulfan, a new persistent organic pollutants from soil environment was investigated on ginseng through the field survey in Korea. The endosulfan residues in soil for this survey were ranged on 0.013-0.136 mg kg-1. The plant uptake factor (PUF) for endosulfan in ginseng was 0.243-1.708 and the highest PUF was found on 3-year-old ginseng. The PUF for endosulfan decreased in the longer cultivation period and it might be caused by the dilution effect of ginseng growth. In addition, the soil organic matter (SOM) content affected on the PUF negatively and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) between SOM and PUF was -0.7812 (p <0.05). Thus, higher SOM would positively affect to reduce the endosulfan residue in ginseng root.
An analytical method for detecting metamifop residue in paddy water, soil, and rice with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed. Water was extracted with ethyl acetate before analyzing by HPLC. Soil residues were extracted with acetone under acidic condition and after purifying with $Extrelut^{(R)}$ NT, and silica SPE, the residue was analyzed by HPLC. For residue analysis in rice, the procedure involved extraction with acetone, purification with $Extrelut^{(R)}$ NT, partitioning between acetonitrile/hexane, purification with silica SPE cartridge, and analysis by HPLC. The limit of detection (LOD) was 1.0 ng, limit of quantitation (LOQ) was 3.0 ng, and method limit of quantitation (MLOQ) were 0.001 mg/L for paddy water, 0.01 mg/kg for rice and soil, respectively. Standard calibration curve shows linearity from 0.05 mg/kg to 5.0 mg/kg ($R^2=0.9999$). The recoveries in fortified paddy water were $91.3{\pm}3.5%$ (0.01 mg/L level) and $93.2{\pm}6.3%$ (0.05 mg/L level). The recoveries in fortified paddy soils were $92.5{\pm}4.0%$ (0.1 mg/kg level) and $92.7{\pm}4.0%$ (0.5 mg/kg level) in soil A, while, $102.3{\pm}4.4%$ (0.1 mg/kg level) and $98.9{\pm}7.9%$ (0.5 mg/kg level) in soil B, respectively. The recoveries in fortified rice were $93.0{\pm}6.9%$ (0.1 mg/kg level) and $85.0{\pm}3.5%$ (0.5 mg/kg level). This method was proved to be effective and can be used to determine the metamifop residue in paddy water, paddy soil, and rice.
Effect of the application time on the persistence of IBP and isoprothiolane in rice plant was studied in the field and effects of the water depth and soil texture on their persistence were also tested as a pot experiment. When granules were applied to the rice paddy water, two fungicides were readily absorbed through the root system and rapidly translocated to the upper parts of the plant. The concentrations of two fungicides in rice plant reached to the maximum within 24 hr regardless of the application time. When applied at the maximum tillering stage, the persistence pattern of two fungicides in plant showed similar trends; that is, residue levels of two compounds declined rapidly upto 7 days after application but more slowly thereafter. When applied at the heading stage, the persistence pattern of IBP in plant was similar to the maximum tillering stage while isoprothilane was quite different; 3 ppm reached on 3rd days after application was maintained almost constant for further 25 days. There was no effect of the water depth on the persistence of two compounds in plant and IBP concentration in plant was also not affected by soil texture. However, isoprothiolane in plant was higher in sandy loam than in loam and clay loam. Isoprothiolane residues in plant were much higher than those of IBP.
Red pine and Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis Gordon) grown in Korea have been the main species of coniferous resources in Korea. Especially, planting area of Japanese larch has been increased continueously in the recent years due to its superior plant type and rapid growth rate and its stocks reached approximately 4.32 million cubic meters at the present time. Although many research works have been done for the utilization of the larch wood in various ways, still many problems are existed in its chemical applications due to a large proportion of soluble extractives. In this study, chemical composition of larch extractives and chemical structure of its major component were analyzed. In order to identify the basic structure of major component, gas-liquid chromatography for separation of some completely methylated alditols as their acetates on a 3% - ECNSS-M on Gas Chrom Q. column was used. Proportion of extractives of Japanese larch wood was higher than that of other conifers and major component of the soluble extractives was arabinogalactan, a schematic structural formula which was presented in Figure 2. The molar ratio of arabinose and galactose was 1:4.5. The main chain of arabinogalactan was composed of 1,3 linked ${\beta}$-D-galactopyranose residues, each of which carried a side chain, attached to the C-6 positions. The exact nature of all of the side chains is not known, but the majority of these side chain was composed of 1, 6 linked ${\beta}$-D-galactopyranose residues, with 2~3 such units present per average chain. Some of the galactose units in the main chain had a residue of 3 - 0 - ${\beta}$-L-arabinopyranosyl-L-arabinofuranose. In addition, a few terminal residues of D-glucuronic acid also was confirmed, attached to C-6 position of the D-galactopyranose residue. It could concluded that the main structure of highly branched arabinogalactan from Japanese larch extractive was essentially the same as those of the other larch species.
Fly ash is one of the aluminosilicate sources used for the synthesis of geopolymers. The particle size distribution of fly ash and the content of unburned carbon residue are known to affect the compressive strength of geopolymers. In this study, the effects of particle size and unburned carbon content of fly ash on the compressive strength of geopolymers have been studied over a compositional range in geopolymer gels. Unburned carbon was effectively separated in the $-46{\mu}m$ fraction using an air classifier and the fixed carbon content declined from 3.04 wt% to 0.06 wt%. The mean particle size ($d_{50}$) decreased from $22.17{\mu}m$ to $10.79{\mu}m$. Size separation of fly ash by air classification resulted in reduced particle size and carbon residue content with a collateral increase in reactivity with alkali activators. Geopolymers produced from carbon-free ash, which was separated by air classification, developed up to 50 % higher compressive strength compared to geopolymers synthesized from raw ash. It was presumed that porous carbon particles hinder geopolymerization by trapping vitreous spheres in the pores of carbon particles and allowing them to remain intact in spite of alkaline attack. The microstructure of the geopolymers did not vary considerably with compressive strength, but the highest connectivity of the geopolymer gel network was achieved when the Si/Al ratio of the geopolymer gel was 5.0.
This experiment was conducted to test the allelopatic activity on germination and early seedling growth of weed species by barley and sorghum plants residues. The fresh barley extraction inhibited the germination and early seedling growth of weeds, Echinochloa crus-galli, Sataria viridis, and P. oleracea. As the extract concentration increased, the germination and early seedling growth of weeds was significantly inhibited. The water extraction of dried barley and sorghum residues also ehibited the strong inhibition effect on germination and Barley seedling growth of weeds. Digitaria sanguinalis, Siegesbechia pubescens, Sectaria viridis, P. oleracea, E. crus-galli. In the dried barley and sorghum residues mixture into the vermiculite, as the dried residue concentration ncreased, emergence percentage, length of shoot and root of weeds, D. saguinalis, S. viridis, S. pubescens, Ammaranthus lividus, and Solanum nigrum, was significantly inhibited. More than 10% concentration of dired residue caused 80% emergence percentage and growth inhibition. From this study, we conclude that barley and sorghym weeds. These results suggest that barley and sorghum has some possibility to control some weed species like natural herbicide.

Aqueous thermal liquefaction of rice, barley, wheat, and rapeseed straws was investigated to compare the amount of heavy oil with catalysts such as $K_2CO_3$, NaOH and KOH in the reaction temperature at $320^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes. The reaction was carried out in a 5,000ml liquefaction system with dispenser and external electrical furnace. Raw materials (160g), 2,000ml of distilled water and 10% (wt/wt) of catalyst to plant residue were fed into the reactor. It was observed that the maximum heavy oil yield was about 29% from the feeding stock, barley straw, with addition of KOH. The caloric values of crude oil from different crop residues were ranged from 55% to 66% relative to the raw materials depend on crop residue. It was appeared that its maximum calorific value from wheat straw was approximately 6190 kcal/kg.
Background: Canine parvovirus (CPV) and feline panleukopenia (FPV) cause severe intestinal disease and leukopenia. Objectives: In Korea, there have been a few studies on Korean FPV and CPV-2 strains. We attempted to investigate several genetic properties of FPV and CPV-2. Methods: Several FPV and CPV sequences from around world were analyzed by Bayesian phylo-geographical analysis. Results: The parvoviruses strains were newly classified into FPV, CPV 2-I, CPV 2-II, and CPV 2-III genotypes. In the strains isolated in this study, Gigucheon, Rara and Jun belong to the FPV, while Rachi strain belong to CPV 2-III. With respect to CPV type 2, the new genotypes are inconsistent with the previous genotype classifications (CPV-2a, -2b, and -2c). The root of CPV-I strains were inferred to be originated from a USA strain, while the CPV-II and III were derived from Italy strains that originated in the USA. Based on VP2 protein analysis, CPV 2-I included CPV-2a-like isolates only, as differentiated by the change in residue S297A/N. Almost CPV-2a isolates were classified into CPV 2-III, and a large portion of CPV-2c isolates was classified into CPV 2-II. Two residue substitutions F267Y and Y324I of the VP2 protein were characterized in the isolates of CPV 2-III only. Conclusions: We provided an updated insight on FPV and CPV-2 genotypes by molecular-based and our findings demonstrate the genetic characterization according to the new genotypes.
