  • A thermal vapor compressor in which the subsonic/supersonic flow appears simultaneously, has been accurately designed through the CFD analysis for the various shape parameters such as the primary nozzle shape, converging duct shape. mixing tube diameter, and so on. The performance of the developed thermal vapor compressor has been experimentally verified to be installed in a Multi Effect Desalination(MED) plant as an important element, In this paper, the experimental results for Various boundary conditions(motive pressure, suction pressure, and discharge pressure) are presented in comparing with CFD results. The two results show a good agreement with each other within 3.5 % accuracy with regard to the entrainment ratio.

  • The design parameter of the reactor vessel insulation for the Korea Standard Power Plant has been studied numerically. The heat loss from the reactor vessel through the insulation is analysed by using the computational fluid dynamics code, FLUENT. Parametric study has been performed on the air gap width between the reactor vessel wall and the inner surface of the insulation, and on the insulation thickness. Also evaluated is the performance degradation due to the chimney effect caused by gaps between the panels during the installation of the insulation system. From the analysis results, the optimal air gap width and the optimal insulation thickness are obtained.

  • Wogonin(5,7-dihydroxy-8-methoxyflavone), an anti-inflammatory plant flavonoid, was previously demonstrated to modulate the several parameters of animal skin inflammation. This compound inhibited edematic response as well as proinflammatory gene expression. In this investigation, the histopathological changes of the lesions from different types of experimental skin inflammation were compared and the potential therapeutic effect of topically applied wogonin was evaluated. From the results, it was found that multiple TPA treatment drastically increased ear edema accompanied with epidermal hyperplasia and inflammatory cell infiltration, while phenol treatment provoked only edematic response in the dermal area. Wogonin somewhat differently inhibited these animal models of skin inflammation.

  • A calculation method on performance impact of the controllable operations parameter such as GT inlet filter ${\Delta}P$, compressor efficiency, and condenser pressure was devised to achieve best performance of combined cycle power plant with the on-line performance monitoring system. This method calculates the performance impact on the deviation between 'Expected' values and 'Actual' values. Controllable parameter targets are determined based on achievable performance given existing equipments and control conditions.

  • Based on the dynamic anti-windup strategy a novel control methodology for state constrained control systems is presented. First a linear controller is designed for an open-loop stable plant to show a desirable nominal performance by ignoring state constraints. And then an additional dynamic compensator is introduced to preserve the nominal performance as closely as possible int he face of state constraints. This paper focuses on the second step under the assumption that a linear controller has already been designed appropriately by using an effective controller design method. By minimizing a reasonable performance index the dynamic compensator is derived explicitly which is expressed int he plant and controller parameters. the proposed method not only guarantees the total stability of the overall resulting systems but also provides desirable output performance because it solves the state-positioning problem completely.

  • Previous reports have shown that Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) can be used to assess physical and chemical properties of flax fibre and fabric quality. Currently, spinners assess yarn quality mainly based on strength and regularity measurements. There two key characteristics are influenced by quality of raw fibres used, especially the degree of rotting and strength. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the use of NIRS for assessing quality of weft grade yarn available on the commercial market. In order to develop the NIR calibrations, a range of samples representing poor, medium and good quality weft yarn samples was included in the calibration and validation sample sets. The samples were analysed for physical and chemical parameters including caustic weight loss, fibre fractions, lipid, ash and minerals. A detailed protocol for assessing yarn quality has been developed to maximize the accuracy of the reflectance spectra. The development of partial least squares regression models and validation of the calibration equations using blind samples will be presented and discussed.

  • This paper studies the identification of a combustion model, which is used to design a linear controller of a steam generation quantity and harmful exhaust gases of a Refuse Incineration Plant(RIP). Even though the RIP has strong nonlinearities and complexities, it is identified as a MIMO parametric ARX model from experimental input-output data sets. Unknown model parameters are decided from experimental input-output data sets, using system identification algorithm based on Instrumental Variables(IV) method. It is shown that the identified model well approximates the input-output combustion characteristics.

  • Combined cycle plants which feature distinct advantages for power generation such as fast response, high efficiency, environmental friendliness, fuel flexiblity represent the majority of new generating plant installations across the globe. Combined cycle plants have different operating modes where the operating parameters can differ greatly depending which mode is operating at the time. This paper addresses the bidding strategy model of combined cycle plants in a competitive electricity market by using a characteristic of multiple operating modes of combined cycle plants. Simulation results of case studies show that an operating mode among multiple ones is selected strategically in generation bidding for more profit of generation company.

  • As the huge energy transfer systems like as nuclear power plant and steam power plant are operated for a long time at a high temperature, mechanical properties are changed and ductile-brittle transition temperature is raised by degradation. So it is required to estimate degradation in order to assess the safety, remaining life and further operation parameters. The sub-sized specimen test method using surveillance specimen was developed for evaluating the integrity of metallic components. In this study, we would like to present the evaluation technique of the ductile-brittle transition temperature by the sub-sized specimen test. The four classes of the thermally aged 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V specimens were prepared using an artificially accelerated aging method. The tensile test and fracture toughness test were performed. The results of the fracture toughness tests using the sub-sized specimens were compared with the evaluation technique of the ductile-brittle transition temperature.

  • In this paper, the effects of water contents on combustion characteristics of paper sludge and capacity of fluidized bed combustor(FBC) were investigated using 0.26m diameter, 1.75m height pilot-plant scale combustor. Combustion tests of paper sludge containing water contents between 40wt% and 50wt% were performed. The temperature and emission variation, the pressure inside combustor were measured to monitor the fluidization quality. The experimental results showed that 30kg/hr feeding rate of sludge containing water up to 45wt% was preferable for this system. Sludge loading rate, heat release rate were calculated from experimental data as major parameters showing FBC capacity. Comparsion with sludge loading rate from other source was also performed
