Recently, management and restoration efforts using the plants promote the disturbed habitats such as a set-asides or field boundaries. But, side effects are coming out because of using the exotic plants in restoration process. This study was conducted to select the native plant species used for restoration through the vegetation survey and plant community analysis at small stream-side in rural villages. We surveyed at two small stream-sides in open field and high land area in 2005 as a case study. Total 126 species was found at small stream side in open field area. As the result of important value' calculation, Persicaria thunbergii 23.0%, Humulus japonicus 18.6%, Phragmites communis 4.4%, Bromus japonicus 4.2%, and Rosa multiflora 3.4% were in the order of important value. Total 92 species were found at small stream side in high land area. As the result of important value' calculation, Dactylis glomerata 16.1%, Artemisia princeps var. orientalis 11.0%, Persicaria thunbergii 10.9%, Humulus japonicus 9.3%, Phragmites japonica 5.2% and Phragmites communis 3.5% were in the order of important value. We selected some plant species to use in restoration after due consideration of problems of exotic plant and high coverage and density species, and ecological process; Persicaria thunberii, Phragmites communis, Bromus japonicus, Rosa multiflora, Equisetum arvense, Digtaria sanguinalis, Impatiens textori, and Artemisia princeps var. orientalis in open field stream-side, and Artemisia princeps var. orientalis, Persicaria thunbergii, Phragmites japonica, Phragmites communis, Artemisia selengensis, Panicum bisulcatum, Rorippa indica, and Equisetum arvense at hghland stream-side. We will verify the selected native plants and plan the utilization of the native plants in restoration at stream-side in rural village.
Aquatic plants grow in water with photosynthesis and purify water quality as taking organic and inorganic matter in water. Polluted water in stagnant stream channel where nutritive salts load is great can be purified by activities of aquatic plants. Aquatic plants should be fixed to bed easily to plant and sustainable environment is needed. So in this study, Mattress/Filter system is suggested to plant aquatic plant in stagnant stream channel. In the result of study, coverage of Phragmites australis, Zizania latifolia and Typha angustifolia which planted in mattress was $78\%,\;62\%\;and\;82\%$ and numbers of species in each mattress system were 7, 11, 3. The evenness index of each mattress system was 0.86, 0.91 and 0.79 and diversity index of each mattress system was 1.67. 2.18 and 0.87. Removal rates of phosphorus at Phragmites australis, Zizania latifolia and Typha angustifolia which planted in mattress were $68.7\%,\;62.7\%,\;55.3\%$ and removal rates of nitrogen of them were $79.8\%,\;74.7\%,\;64.9\%$. The removal rate of nitrogen was greater than phosphorus at all system and both removal rates were greater at Phragmites australis than at Zirania latifolia and at Typha angustifolia the rate was the least. Removal rates of $PO_4^{-3},\;NH_4-N,\;NO_{3-}N$ at Phragmites australis were $57.4\%,\;52.8\%,\;47.8\%$ and at Zizania latifolia were $82.6\%,\;77.2\%,\;67.5\%$ and at Typha angustifolia were $80.6\%,\;73.7\%,\;64.3\%$. It seems that removal effect is great by the planted mattress system.

This study was conducted to investigate the germination rates and ground coverage rates of the 16 native wild flower, herbaceous, shrub and woody plants according to temperature and seeding timing for the revegetation and rehabilitation of the roadside slopes. Also, this study was conducted to suggest design criteria to select revegetation plants and to decide proper seed mixture for ecological restoration of the disturbed manmade slopes as a environmentally friendly construction. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Most of the plants germinated after 10~14 days. Woody plants germinated more slowly than wild flowers and herbaceous plants because of the hard seed. 2. Most of the plants showed the highest percentage of the germination rates under $15/25^{\circ}C$ temperature. The next was in order of under the $20/30^{\circ}C$ temperature, normal temperature(October) and $25/35^{\circ}C$ temperature. 3. At the chamber experiment, the Sorbaria sorbifolia var. stellipila showed the highest germination rates. Most of the native wild flowers germinated well and showed high germination rates under the various temperature. 4. As the field germination experiments, the seeding at August shows higher germination rates than that of the seeding at September, but showed lower surviving percentage of the germinated seedlings and lower ground coverage percentage than those of the seeding at September. After one year, Chionanthus retusus, Acer palmatum, Albizzia julibrissin are germinated and showed 10% coverage rates. So, they can be used as revegetation plants for the restoration works. 5. As seed mixture experiment, it was not effective only to increase the proportion of the ratio of the tree seeds, relatively high price, for making woody vegetation. It would be more successful to make vegetation structure by natural competition among wild flowers, shrubs and trees. 6. The excessive dominance of trees in revegetation works may destroy the lower layer of vegetation and it will be undesirable on the species diversity. It is more important to recover the species diversity of the plant community by seed mixture with the considering the germination, the growth characteristics and the correlation effect among revegetation plants. 7. To recover the manmade slopes quickly, increasing the ratio of the wild flower was recommended.
This study was conducted from 2012, which was a year before forest road construction in Minjujisan, to 2015 to verify effects on flora and vegetation change annually before and after the construction, and to provide strategies to examine and manage flora changes. The plant communities in the investigated area around the forest road is separated by the slopes into Quercus mongolica community is on the northwestern slope and Quercus variabilis and Larix kaempferi communities is on the southwestern slope. The annual investigation of flora change before and after the construction showed that there were 209 taxa that had 71 families, 153 genera, 178 species, 27 varieties, and 4 forma in 2015 while there were 66 taxa that had 44 families, 59 genera, 51 species, 13 varieties, and 2 forma in 2012 before the construction, indicating an increase of 143 texa before and after the construction. The investigation of the slope area adjacent to the forest road constructed in 2013, in particular, showed increasing coverage and taxa each year after the construction. This was caused by significantly increased light transmittance after the construction. The investigation in 2015 showed increased coverage of herbaceous layer the year after development of the forest road and the remarkable increase of the coverage of shrub layer in 2015. Further, the coverage on the slope adjacent to the forest road increased more in 2015 than in 2013 and 2014. Therefore, we expect supplementary studies will help to generate a detail manual on flora and vegetation change before and after forest road construction.
This study was conducted to examine the plant succession on the improved pasture of the mountain districts around Mt. Halla in Cheju Island. For this study, the researcher had investigated for ten years the improved pasture which had been used for grazing from 1976 to 1985. The pasture was reclaimed from native grassland. The mixed seeds of 17kgs' Dactylis glomerata, 7kgs' Festuca arundinacea, 2kgs' Lolium multiflorum and 2kgs' Trifolium repens were sowed per ha. The results of this study are the followings; The annual changes in the number of plant species were observed. 37 weed species were found in 1976 and increased year after year to 151 species in 1985. The changes in the distribution of annual and perennial plant, and one species of arbor were found in 1976 and increased respectively year by year to 56 species (annual plant), 95 species (perennial plant) and 9 species (arbor) in 1985. The average plant height of introduced grasses by year increased from 38.05cm (1976) to 47.30cm (1978) and decreased from 40.50cm (1979) to 10.36cm in 1985 (y =-0.501x$^2$+1.609x + 41.946). While the average plant height of invading weeds increased from 26.61cm to 42.84cm (y=-0.80$\chi$$^2$+2.540$\chi$+27.570) between 1976 and 1985. The density of introduced grasses was 70.90% in 1976 and was reduced to 0.49% in 1985 (y =-0.501$\chi$$^2$+1.609$\chi$+41.946); while that of introduing weeds was 29.10% in 1976 and was increased to 99.51% in 1985 (y=-0.080$\chi$$^2$+2.540$\chi$+27.570). The coverage of introduced grasses by year increased gradually from 72.8% (1976) to 74.86% (1978) and decreased from 43.01% (1979) to 1.21% in 1986 while that of intruding weeds developed a tendency to increase every year. Their coverage in 1976 was 22.09% and increased to 98.78% in 1985. The weight of introduced grasses by year increased from 2,808kg (1976) to 3,535kg (1978) per l0a and after 1979 decreased gradually from 2,326kg (1978) to 35kg per l0a in 1985. That of intruding weeds increased yearly from 308kg in 1976 to 3,178kg in 1985. The type of annual vegetation were changed as follows; Year Type 1976-1978 Dactylis glomerata / Trifolium repens type 1979 Trifolium repens / Imperata cylindrica type 1980-1982 Imperata cylindrica / Zoysia Japonica type 1983 Imperata cylindrica / Pteridium aquilinum type 1984-1985 Imperata cylindrica / Miscanthus sinensis type The plants whose plant height, coverage, density, and weight increased year after year were Imperate cylind-rica, Zoysia japonica, Pteridium equilinum, Miscanthus sinensis, Cirsium japonicum, Erigeron canadensis, Artemisia japonica, Lespedeza cuneata, Spondiopogon cotuUfer. Cymbopogon tortilis, Plantago asiatica, Rumex acetosella, etc. The vegetation of Digitaria sanguinalis, Hydrocotyl japonica, Artemisia asiatica, etc. was com-paratively remarkable in the beginning.
This study was carried out to examine the process of plant succession through vegetation invasion and to select appropriate endemic plant species for rapid stabilization and good visual effect on cut-slopes of forest roads. Establishing total of sixty $1m{\times}1m$ sample plots. fifteen for each forest road constructed in the year of '93 (six-year-old), '95(four-year-old), '97(two-year-old), and '98(one-year-old), the ecological attributes of invading vegetation on cut-slopes were analyzed. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The rate of vegetation coverage was highly associated with soil hardness and aspect of cut-slope. Higher rate of vegetation coverage was caused by larger number of invading plant species. 2. The dominant woody species were Rubus crataegifolius, Rhus chinensis, Lespedeza bicolor, Salix hulteni, Alnus hirsuta, and Pinus densiflora. The visual attractive for the fruit of Rubus crataegifolius and the autumn coloration of Rhus chinensis was noteworthy. The dominant herbaceous species were Youngia sonchifolia, Spodiopogon sibiricus, and Lysimachia clethroides in all study forest roads. Spring flower of Potentilla freyniana and Viola rossii: summer flower of Lysimachia clethroides, Commelina communis, Glycine soja. Persicaria sieboldi, and Oenothera odorata: and autumn flower of Artemisia stolonifera and Impatiens textori were abundant and remarkable. 3. The diversity index of woody species tended to be increased as years passed after construction, and that of herbaceous species were decreased. 4. The dominance of Th of dormancy form was early high in the first year of construction, getting decreased thereafter. And that of MM + M + N was increased as years passed after construction. but that of Ch+H+G+Th+HH was decreased. 5. The degrees of succession were estimated by 359, 111, 97, and 87 for the construction year of '93, '95, '97, and '98. respectively, increased as years passed after construction.
The purpose of this study is to identify distribution patterns of hydrophytes in the Mokpo wetland in relation to the depth of water. Sample surveys were conducted based on plant species distribution status and water depths at 274 spots. This study also developed a detailed depth distribution map for Mokpo wetland, which was never done in any previous studies. Through this study, it was found that the average depth of the wetland was 77cm (${\pm}29cm$) and the maximal depth was 157cm. The outer edge was no deeper than 60cm and the center approximately 120~130cm in depth, forming a concave bowl-like shape. This research confirmed inhabitation of 6 types of submerged plants (Verticillate hydrilla, Vallisneria natans, Najas graminea, Potamogeton cripus, Ceratophyllum demersum, and Potamogeton brechtoldi), and three types of floating leaved plants (Euryale ferox, Hydrocharis dubia and Trapa japonica) in the surveyed areas of the wetland. The distribution of these hydrophytes showed a statistically significant difference (${\chi}^2=982.2$, df = 8, p < 0.01), which confirms the fact that distribution varies based on environmental conditions. The most frequently observed species was Trapa japonicas at 244 times, and it showed a distribution pattern by which coverage increased with greater depth, as was also seen in the case of Potamogeton cripus. Five species-Euryale ferox, Hydrocharis dubid, Verticillate hydrilla, Najas graminea, and Ceratophyllum demersum-showed a negative correlation to depth, by which coverage decreased with increasing depth. It has been shown that fundamentally, the distribution of hydrophytes based on depth is affected by ecological factors, but also reflects the environmental properties of Mokpo wetland.

This study was carried out to investigate the distribution and habitat feature of Glehnia littoralis as a part of establishment of conservation plan for important natural agro-plant resources in South Korea. Habitat of Glehnia littoralis was generally found 28.2 m from high tide water line and 2.7 m above sea level at sand dunes near three seashore areas. Density and coverage of Glehnia littoralis were higher in east seashore among three seashore areas. The number of plant species growing with Glehnia littoralis in natural habitat was found 35 species. Among 35 species Ixeris repens Carex pumila, Carex kobomugi, Elymus mollis, Ischaemum anthephoroides, Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii were shown higher density and coverage. Average yearly precipitation and temperature of habitat for Glehnia littoralis were 1250.3 mm and $12.5^{\circ}C$, respectively. Among three seashores, the precipitation and temperature of south seashore were much more and higher than those of other two seashores. Soil characteristics of habitat for Glehnia littoralis were that average pH was 7.9 and organic matter was 0.23%. Content $P_2O_5$ and Ca were relatively higher, but the level K and Na were very low.
In this study, two soybean genotypes, i.e., aluminum-tolerant Baxi 10 (BX10) and aluminumsensitive Bendi 2 (BD2), were used as plant materials and acidic red soil was used as growth medium. The soil layers from the inside to the outside of the root are: rhizospheric soil after washing (WRH), rhizospheric soil after brushing (BRH) and rhizospheric soil at two sides (SRH), respectively. The rhizosphere bacterial communities were analyzed by high-throughput sequencing of V4 hypervariable regions of 16S rRNA gene amplicons via Illumina MiSeq. The results of alpha diversity analysis showed that the BRH and SRH of BX10 were significantly lower in community richness than that of BD2, while the WRH exhibited no significant difference between BX10 and BD2. Among the three sampling compartments of the same soybean genotype, WRH had the lowest community richness and diversity while showing the highest coverage. Beta diversity analysis results displayed no significant difference for any compartment between the two genotypes, or among the three different sampling compartments for any same soybean genotype. However, the relative abundance of major bacterial taxa, specifically nitrogen-fixing and/or aluminum-tolerant bacteria, was significantly different in the compartments of the BRH and/or SRH at phylum and genus levels, indicating genotype-dependent variations in rhizosphere bacterial communities. Strikingly, as compared with BRH and SRH, the WRH within the same genotype (BX10 or BD2) always had an enrichment effect on rhizosphere bacteria associated with nitrogen fixation.
In Korea, many paddy fields in mountainous area have been abandoned because of their low accessibility and rice price and the abandoned paddy terraces have changed into natural lentic wetlands. To understand the relationship between characteristics of environmental conditions and early development of plant community in abandoned paddy terraces, we investigated at four well-maintained abandoned paddy terraces in 3 different climatic zones in Korea. Soil texture of abandoned paddy terraces was mostly kinds of loam and electric conductivity of soil was also similar among abandoned paddy terraces. On the other hand, contents of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium in soil were relatively low and significantly different among abandoned paddy terraces. Water depth was different within sites and inter-sites. Although environmental conditions including climate, soil condition and water depth were different among abandoned paddy terraces, the compositions of plant communities were relatively similar in all abandoned paddy terraces. 55 dominant taxa out of 141 recorded species were commonly recorded over sites and they were mostly perennial obligate wetland plants and facultative wetland plants. 8 taxa out of 55 dominant taxa occurred at all abandoned paddy terraces with over 10% coverage. Several site-specific species occurred at site, which have some area with deep water level. This result indicates that early development of plant community in abandoned paddy terraces of similar water regime is similar in the entire area of Korea even though environmental conditions such as climate, biogeographic history and soil are different.
