Traditional beam connections to the minor axis of a column have relatively low strength and stiffness. A modified detail, using a plate welded between the toes of the column flange - referred to as a toe plate connection - is examined in this paper. The results of an experimental investigation for both flush and extended end-plate connections connected to a 25 mm thick end-plate are presented. The tests are complemented by finite element modelling which compares very well with the test observations. The results show a significant increase in both moment resistance and initial stiffness for this connection detail compared with connections made directly to the column web. This offers the prospect of more optimal solutions taking advantage of partial strength frame design for the minor axis as well as major axis.
This study makes three apartment building complex an object of analyzing representative building types and energy consumption rate of house holds, and effect of outdoor air cooling. Recently created apatrment complex is composed of very various types of building, plan, and orientation etc. But, it is difficult to remark conclusively that these various types of buildings are designed energy-effectively. Because architects are hard to find useful energy design guideline for decision making. By the preceding study, the present condition and problem about this subject is grasped, apartment building types were examined and representative types were extracted. In this study, energy simulation was conducted, and the effect to outdoor air cooling was analyzed about representative types of the subject apartment complex. It is expected that this analysed results will be basic data for the more integrated study. Research consequence can be summarized as follow: 1) Besides solar gain, household layout of building, orientation, and plan etc. effects compositively on energy consumption rate. 2) The effect of ourdoor air cooling in building of tower type can be improved by arranging households appropriately.
As art of lamination by plywood got to be generally used, it became a suitable material for expressing live curves that were not able to be expressed on wood furniture made of plank and timber, as well as, openwork deep in curved space, heavy quality of material, and changing contour line-looking wave lines with different process angles. As an alternative, it would be good to build a full scale model, since it would provide practice in form-building and it would also provide a chance to correct the form. Less material can be used and reduce the cutting process by Properly trimming models made of soft formal structure such as Styrofoam Iso-pink and adhesive Styrofoam, and separating the layers and using them on shape cutting of plywood with the same thickness. And by attaching the model veneer that was used in shape cutting of the model and using it as a cutting guide, we can reduce the error of work and successively build the planned form. Since this study is about the need of a full scale model for a laminated wood model and an efficient process, this study concentrates more on process.

A typical honeycomb sandwich panel consists of two thin, high-strength facings bonded to a thick, light-weight core. Each component by itself is relatively weak and flexible, but when it combind in a sandwich panel they produce a structure that is stiff, strong, and lightweight. In addition to use in honeycomb sandwich panels, honeycomb is used for energy absorption, radio frequency shielding, light diffusion, and to direct air flow.Accordingly, the usage of honeycomb sandwich structure is very widely applied to the aircraft, the automobile, and marine industry, etc., because of these advantages. Generally, this honeycomb sandwich structure is manufactured by autoclave process. In this study, the honeycomb sandwich structure was produced by prepreg. To prove the suitability the honeycomb sandwich structure with prepreg, The optimum design of the skin materials and honeycomb sandwich structure were evaluated with the theory of stress analysis.
For the accurate prediction of freezing time, probably the most difficult factor to measure and major error source is the surface heat transfer coefficient. In this work, surface heat transfer coefficient were determined for still air freezing and immersion freezing methods by theory of the transient temperature method and confirmed by using a modification of plank's equation to predict the freezing time of ground lean beef. The results showed the cooling rate of immersion freezing was about 11 times faster than that of still air freezing method. A comparison of surface heat transfer coefficient of copper plate and ground lean beef resulted an difference of 25-30% because the food sample surface is not smooth as copper plate. Also, when h-values measured by ground lean beef were applicated to modified model, the accuracy of its results is very high as difference of about 8%.

In recent years, the use of hybrid fiber reinforced polymer(FRP)-concrete members with a dual purpose of both formwork and reinforcement, has been considered in some structures and has been applied in a small number of bridge decks. Numerical simulations of the beam failure tests were performed using nonlinear finite element program and a parametric study was performed with variables of perfobond shape. The ultimate strength was increased with perfobond shape because of dowel action. It was showed a good performance in case of approximately perforate diameter 25~35mm in this case.
The formation process of a current sheet is important for solar flare from a viewpoint of a space weather prediction. We therefore derive the temporal development of the spatial and statistical distribution of electric current density distributed in a flare-producing active region to describe the formation of a current sheet. We derive time sequence distribution of electric current density by applying a nonlinear force-free approximation reconstruction to Active Region 12158 that produces an X1.6-class flare. The time sequence maps of photospheric vector magnetic field used for reconstruction are captured by a Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) onboard Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO) on 10th September, 2014. The spatial distribution of electric current density in NLFFF model well reproduce observed sigmoidal structure at the preflare phase, although a layer of high current density shrinks at the postflare phase. A double power-law profile of electric current density is found in statistical analysis. This may be expected to use an indicator of the occurrence of a solar flare.

In this work we report methods of formation of three-dimensional structures of particles in a liquid crystal host. We found that, under the appropriate conditions, the particles are captured and dragged by the moving isotropic/nematic front during the phase transition process. This movement of the particles can be enhanced significantly or suppressed drastically with the influence of an electric field and/or with changing the conditions of the phase transition, such as the rate of cooling. As a result, a wide variety of particle structures can be obtained ranging from a fine-grained cellular structure to stripes of varying periods to a course-grained "root" structures. Changing the properties of the materials, such as the size and density of the particles and the surface anchoring of the liquid crystal at the particle surface, can also be used to control the morphology of the three-dimensional particle network and adjust the physical properties of the resulting dispersions. These particle structures may be used to affect the performance of LCD's much as polymers have been used in the past.
Transport mechanisms of nickel ion through a continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) were investigated in terms of electric properties of ion exchange textile (IET). The porous plug model and extended Nernst-Plank (N-P) equation were applied for the description of transport mechanism of nickel ion. The model revealed that the CEDI performance was mainly due to the induced current not accelerated mobility by IET. This study also suggested that optimal operating conditions are attained with minimized electroregeneration region.
We have investigated a coronal jet near the limb on 2010 June 27 by Hinode/X-Ray Telescope (XRT), EUV Imaging Spectrograph (EIS), SDO/Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA), and STEREO. From EUV (AIA and EIS) and soft X-ray (XRT) images we identify the erupting jet feature in cool and hot temperatures. Using the high temporal and multi wavelength AIA images, we found that the hot jet preceded its associated cool jet and their structures are well consistent with the numerical simulation of the emerging flux-reconnection model. From the spectroscopic analysis, we found that the jet structure changes from blue shift to red one with time, which may indicate the helical structure of the jet. The STEREO observation, which enables us to observe this jet on the disk, shows that there was a dim loop associated with the jet. On the other hand, we found that the structure of its associated active region seen in STEREO is similar to that in AIA observed 5 days before. Based on this fact, we compared the jet morphology on the limb with the magnectic fields extrapolated from a HMI vector magnetogram of this active region observed on the disk. Interestingly, the comparison shows that the open and closed magnetic field configuration correspond to the jet and the dim loop, respectively, as the Shibata's jet model predicted.
