Many efforts are made to achieve satisfactory cosmetic and functional result in the repair of cleft lip. However, repair may be complicated in many cases by distortion of the vermilion border, obliteration of the normal contour of the philtrum, and eclabium in spite of many methods used in these days. To achieve better results in cleft lip repair, thorough understandings of the relationship between the surface morphology of the upper and lower lip and the underlying musculature is necessary but reports about this topic is rare. So, our studies were performed on the full-thickness upper lips containing both philtral ridge up to columelar base and lower lip, 4 post-mortem specimens of 2 females and 2 males aged from 16 to 42, using serial histological sections taken in the transverse and vertical planes under light microscopy. Thorough understanding of the anatomical relationships is established and on the basis of our findings, we can postulate some criteria to create a normal and natural philtrum in a patient with a cleft lip, it would be necessary to restore the normal deep muscle attachments and superficial dermal attachments of the orbicularis muscle, to close the lip without tension, to restore thickness of the philtral ridge, and to minimise nonelastic scar tissue.
A surface of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) was modified with changing ion doses by 1 keV $Ar^+$ ion irradiation and Cu films having thickness $5000\;{\AA}$ were deposited on the modified PTFE. The SEM study showed that the surface texture of modified PTFE was in the form of cones whose height increased depending on ion doses. Through XPS spectra, it was found that the intensity of F ls peaks decreased with ion doses by preferential sputtering of F atoms and the C-C and / or C-F chains were formed by the crosslinking in the newly unstable chains. Cu films were deposited uniformly along the filaments formed on the modified PTFE. In x-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra of deposited Cu films on modified PTFE, a preferred orientation along (111) and (200) planes was found and the peak intensity of (111) plane increased as surface roughness of modified PTFE increased. The resistivity of Cu films was changed from $2.7{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ of unmodified PTFE to $4.3{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ of modified PTFE at ion dose of $1{\times}10^{16}/\textrm{cm}^2$ and the abrupt increase of resistivity in the modified PTFE at ion dose of $1{\times}10^{17}/\textrm{cm}^2$ was due to being cut off the film which resulted from the increased surface roughness.
The fast extraction of the silhouettes of a model is very useful for many applications in computer graphics and animation. In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm to compute a sequence of perspective silhouettes for a polyhedral model from a moving viewpoint. The viewpoint is assumed to move along a trajectory q(t), which is a space curve of a time parameter t. Then, we can compute the time-intervals for each edge of the model to be contained in the silhouette by two major computations: (i) intersecting q(t) with two planes and (ii) a number of dot products. If q(t) is a curve of degree n, then there are at most of n + 1 time-intervals for an edge to be in a silhouette. For each time point $t_i$ we can extract silhouette edges by searching the intervals containing $t_i$ among the computed intervals. For the efficient search, we propose two kinds of data structures for storing the intervals: an interval tree and an array. Our algorithm can be easily extended to compute the parallel silhouettes with minor modifications.
This paper is a study of Le Corbusier's trace regulateur of the 1920s, particularly its role in the design of the Villas La Roche-Jeanneret and Stein-de Monzie. It proceeds on the basis of the following three themes: first, the relation between the regulating line and the dom-ino frame; second, its status as a proportional device based not on a module system but one that defines relations; third, its function as an essential practical device in the design process. In the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, the embedded horizontal planes of the dom-ino frame were constant, but the vortical lines of the columns were altered according to the changes in plan. Initially, a left-hand bay window formed a symmetry with the right-hand bay window, the only constant in the design process. With subsequent changes, mullion sections of the horizontal window and roof elements came to provide the reference points for the regulating line. Eventually, a regulating line different from the one that controlled the bay window and the elongated volume came to control the entrance hall of Villa La Roche, resulting in three different kinds of regulating lines in the final version. In contrast to the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret, a singular and consistent regulation line was anticipated in the earliest design stages of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. The repetition of its A:B grid and the standard $2.5m{\times}1.0m$ sliding window determined the proportions of both its plan and elevation, and thus the regulating line became 'automatic,' losing its viability as a practical tool. Though the regulating titles of the La Roche-Jeanneret look as if they were an afterthought, drawn after the design was complete, they were most active, requiring tenacity and discipline in their application. On the other hand, the seemingly 'redundant' regulating line of the Villa Stein-de Monzie gains its raison d'etre from the dom-ino frame. Its cantilevers and uninterrupted horizontal window could be used in decisive fashion because of the guarantee that the correct proportion would always be maintained. Thus we discover that Le Corbusier's discipline of the 1920s had a certain spectrum of flexibility. His 'parti' ranged from the extremely loose and malleable grid of the Villa La Roche-Jeanneret to the fixed grid of the Villa Stein-de Monzie. In different ways, these projects retain the tension between the dom-ino frame and the regulating line. For Le Corbusier, as much as the grid was an object with fixed attributes, it was also an active medium manipulated by the will of the architect.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinematic and kinetic changes that may occur in the pelvic and spine regions during cross-legged sitting postures. Experiments were performed on sixteen healthy subjects. Data were collected while the subject sat in 4 different sitting postures for 5 seconds: uncrossed sitting with both feet on the floor (Posture A), sitting while placing his right knee on the left knee (Posture B), sitting by placing right ankle on left knee (Posture C), and sitting by placing right ankle over the left ankle (Posture D). The order of the sitting posture was random. The sagittal plane angles (pelvic tilt, lumbar A-P curve, thoracic A-P curve) and the frontal plane angles (pelvic obliquity, lumber lateral curves, thoracic lateral curves) were obtained using VICON system with 6 cameras and analyzed with Nexus software. The pressure on each buttock was measured using Tekscan. Repeated one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the angle and pressure across the four postures. The Bonferroni's post hoc test was used to determine the differences between upright trunk sitting and cross-legged postures. In sagittal plane, cross-legged sitting postures showed significantly greater kyphotic curves in lumbar and thoracic spine when compared uncrossed sitting posture. Also, pelvic posterior tilting was greater in cross-legged postures. In frontal plane, only height of the right pelvic was significantly higher in Posture B than in Posture A. Finally, in Posture B, the pressure on the right buttock area was greater than Posture A and, in Posture C, the pressure on the left buttock area was greater than Posture A. However, all dependent variables in both planes did not demonstrate any significant difference among the three cross-legged postures (p>.05). The findings suggest that asymmetric changes in the pelvic and spine region secondary to the prolonged cross-legged sitting postures may cause lower back pain and deformities in the spine structures.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify cerebral cortices related with sexual arousal fro visual sexual stimulation in healthy males using BOLD-based functional MR imaging Method: Sixteen male volunteers with sexually potent(mean age:24) were examined for thi study. Functional MRI was performed on a 1.5T MR scanner(GE Signa Horizon) with birdcage-type head coil. In this study, blood oxygenation level dependent(BOLD) technique was utilized to create fMR image reflecting local brain activities. The BOLD-based fMRI d were obtained from 7 oblique planes using gradient-echo EPI with $90^{\circ}$flip angle, 50ms TE 6000ms TR, $26cm{\times}26$ cm FOV, $128{\times}128$ matrix, and 10mm slice thickness. The sexual stimulation paradigm consisted of two alternating periods of rest and activati and it began with a 1 minute rest, followed by a 2 minute stimulation by a documentary a erotic video film. Brain activation maps were generated by cross-correlation of imag acquired during rest and activation periods. The index of activation was used to compare t number of pixels activated by each task in each volunteer, where the significance of th differences was evaluated by using Students t-test.
Purpose : To assess the distortion of MRI with the Leksell stereotactic radiosurgery system in variable pulse sequence and imaging plane through phantom study, to find most adequate imaging plane and pulse sequence for stereotactic radiosurgery system. Materials and methods : We made the phantoms for MRI and get images in variable conditions and analyzed the image distortion using image analysis program, and statistically using paired student t-test. Results : The transeverse plane images had acceptable error ranges bless than 1.5mm) in all pulse sequence in both the analysis of fiducial marker in stereotactic G-frame and the phantom study. The coronal plane images had unacceptable large errors (more than 1.7mm) in the analysis of fiducial marker in the stereotactic G-frame, but had corrected small errors (less than 1.5mm) in the phantom study. Conclusion : We find from the phantom study that the present MR machines are adequate for stereotactic surgery system in frequently used pulse sequences, and imaging planes.
Purpose : In order to overcome limitations in the existing conventional spectrometer, a new spectrometer with advanced functionalities is designed and implemented. Materials and Methods : We designed a spectrometer using the TMS320C6701 DSP capable of 1 giga floating point operations per second (GFLOPS). The spectrometer can generate continuously varying complicate gradient waveforms by real-time calculation, and select image plane interactively. The designed spectrometer is composed of two parts: one is DSP-based digital control part, and the other is analog part generating gradient and RF waveforms, and performing demodulation of the received RF signal. Each recover board can measure 4 channel FID signals simultaneously for parallel imaging, and provides fast reconstruction using the high speed DSP. Results : The developed spectrometer was installed on a 1.5 Tesla whole body MRI system, and performance was tested by various methods. The accurate phase control required in digital modulation and demodulation was tested, and multi-channel acquisition was examined with phase-array coil imaging. Superior image quality is obtained by the developed spectrometer compared to existing commercial spectrometer especially in the fast spin echo images. Conclusion : Interactive control of the selection planes and real-time generation of gradient waveforms are important functions required for advanced imaging such as spiral scan cardiac imaging. Multi-channel acquisition is also highly demanding for parallel imaging. In this paper a spectrometer having such functionalities is designed and developed using the TMS320C6701 DSP having 1 GFLOPS computational power. Accurate phase control was achieved by the digital modulation and demodulation techniques. Superior image qualities are obtained by the developed spectrometer for various imaging techniques including FSE, GE, and angiography compared to those obtained by the existing commercial spectrometer.

A method was developed for analyzing the radiation heat transfer from the duct burner flame to the heat exchanger in a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) in order to supplement the existing thermal design process. The burner flame and the heat exchanger were considered to be imaginary planes, and the flame temperature, surface, and emissivity were simplified using an engineering approach. Three analysis cases in which the duct burner position and fuel were changed were considered. The calculated flame radiative heat transfer and local flux on the heating surface were compared with those of 3-atomic gas radiation and convection. In all analysis cases, heat transfer by 3-atomic gas radiation was very small. The ratio of the flame radiative heat transfer to the convection heat transfer on the heating surface was estimated to be as high as 8-41%. Moreover, the local heat flux on the heating surface centerline was dominated by flame radiative heat flux.
In order to elucidate the plastic deformation of solids, the following assumptions were made: (1) the plastic deformation of solids is classified into two main types, the one which is caused by dislocation movement and the other caused by grain boundary movement, each movement being restricted on a different shear surface, (2) the dislocation movement is expressed by a mechanical model of a parallel connection of various kinds of Maxwell dislocation flow units whereas the grain boundary movement is also expressed by a parallel connection of various kinds of Maxwell grain boundary flow units; the parallel connection in each type of movements indicates that all the flow units on each shear surface flow with the same shear rate, (3) the latter model for grain boundary movement is connected in series to the former for dislocation movement, this means physically that the applied stress distributes homogeneously in the flow system while the total strain rate distributes heterogeneously on the two types of shear planes (dislocation or grain boundary shear plane), (4) the movement of dislocation flow units and grain boundary units becomes possible when the atoms or molecules near the obstacles, which hinder the movement of flow units, diffuse away from the obstacles.Using the above assumptions in conjunction with the theory of rate processes, generalized equations of shear stress and shear rate for plastic deformation were derived. In this paper, four cases important in practice were considered.ted N${\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}$O hydrogen bond and the second of two normal N${\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}$O hydrogen bonds, both of which exist between the amino group and the perchlorate, groups. A p-phenylenediamine group is approximately planar within an experimental error and bonded to twelve perchlorates: ten perchlorates forming hydrogen bonds and two being contacted with the van der Waals forces. A perchlorate group is surrounded by six p-phenylenediamines and four perchlorates; among the six p-phenylenediamines, five of them are hydrogen-bonded, and the rest contacted with the van der Waals force.
