This work ethibits how susceptive the shear ultrasonic waves are to a little misoriented plies according to the angle variation of shear ultrasoic waves $0^\circ$ , $45^\circ$ and $90^\circ$. Also, it is shown that shear waves, particularly the transmission mode with the transmitter and receiver perpendicular to each other, have high sensitivity for detecting anomalies in fiber orientation and ply layup sequence that may occur in the manufacturing of composite laminates. Experimental results are agreed with modeling solutions which were based on decomposition of shear wave polarization vector as it propagates through the composite laminates. This wave appeared considerably to be sensitive to CFRP composites to the thickness direction along in-plane fibers.
Magnetars are neutron stars powered by strong magnetic field (B > $10^{14}G$). Their spin period is in the range of 2 - 12s. The magnetic stress in the star may distort the crust (observed as outbursts), so magnetars (especially in outbursts) may emit gravitational waves. There are 29 magnetars known (potential gravitational waves sources), and increasing the number will increase the chance of detecting low-frequency gravitational waves. In addition, magnetars can be used for studying matter under extreme condition. In this study, we searched for more magnetars using extensive Chandra archival data and found 11 candidates. Due to the limited sensitivity of Chandra, form identification cannot be made, and more sensitivity X-ray data are needed.

In this paper, VHF(30~230[MHz]) electromagnetic waves radiated from partial discharge(PD) at two-type electrodes in air are measured and the peculiar patterns of their spectra are reported. Also, the polarization and distance characteristics of electromagnetic wave rediated by PD, were investigated. In case of epoxy insulator in inserted, the noise level of radiated electromagnetic waves is 0.6~6.2[dB] higher than the case in air at below 90[MHz]. The frequency spectrum distribution of radiated electromagnetic waves appears different in the whole frequency range according to the arrangement of antenna.

It is well known that a discharge in oil is the source of various physical phenomena. Ultrasonic-wave detection is a useful method to the diagnosis of the transformer-insulation condition. Conventionally, ultrasonic waves are detected by Piezo-electric transducer, and we use optical method that has many advantages. In this paper, we constructed a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with optical fiber and investigated the principle of operation. Test arrangement is based on the needle-plane electrode system in oil and applied AC high voltage. Ultrasonic waves were detected and analyzed with wavelet transform.

Conoscopic holography, which consists of two linear polarizers and two wave plates, and an uniaxial crystal, is incoherent holographic technology for three-dimensional display. In the uniaxial crystal, the wave from object divides into extraordinary and ordinary waves and phase difference between two waves is caused by the different refractive index of two waves. Four intensity patterns, which are made by phase difference, are obtained using LCLV(liquid crystal light valve) and conoscopic holography system. By combining four intensity patterns, the complex hologram without bias and conjugate image. In this paper, we propose the optimized system, which consists of a wave plate and a linear polarizer, and uniaxial crystal. In the proposed system, it doesn't need LCLV. By adjusting the azimuth angle of a linear polarizer and a wave plate, we derive four intensity patterns in recording plane. We demonstrate theoretically that the complex hologram with bias and a conjugate image is obtained using the proposed system.
This paper presents the flow and the suspended sediment movement over ripples for oscillatory flows. A new numerical model system is developed, and applied to a laboratory experimental condition of regular waves and a fictitious condition of irregular waves. The flow field is obtained from a programme proposed by Kim et. al.(1994), which is a modified version of SOLA based on SMAC scheme. The sub-model solves the continuity and Reynolds momentum equations in the x-z plane. The wave orbital velocities, shear stresses, and pressure are all reasonably reproduced by the model. The model results on the vertical velocity component show good agreement with the measurements. The suspended sediment transport sub-model is newly set up to solve the advection-diffusion equation of suspended sediment using a split method, and involving a special shear entrainment from the whole ripple surface. The calculated suspended sediment concentrations for regular waves show reasonable agreement with measurements at Deltaflume. The model results for random waves show that the suspended sediment concentration is higher than those for regular waves and that the sediment diffuses higher than for regular waves with the significant wave height and the peak wave period of the irregular waves.

In this paper, we propose a Multiple Signal Classification(MUSIC) in conjunction with signal enhancement (SE-MUSIC) for solving the direction-of-arrival estimation problem of multiple incoherent plane waves incident on a uniform linear array. The proposed SE-MUSIC algorithms involve the following main two-step procedure : ( i )to find the enhanced matrix that possesses the prescribed properties and which lies closest to a given covariance matrix estimate in the Frobenius norm sense and (ii) to apply the MUSIC to the enhanced matrix. Simulation results are illustrated to demonstrate the better resolution and statistical performance of the proposed method than MUSIC at lower SNR.

When an object or objects, rigid or flexible, presents in incident sound field, the sound wave is scattered. This, we call, is scattered sound field. It, of course, depends on the amplitude and the direction of the incident sound field as well as the geometry and the surface impedance of the scatterer(object). This paper addresses the way to measure scattered sound field by using arbitrary incident sound wave. This means that the method can decompose the scattered field from measured sound field with respect to any magnitudes and directions of incident plane-waves.

In the reflection and transmission of a plane wave(TE) from a dielectric plane surface oscillating sinusoidally perpendicular to its surface, one could assume that the boundary moves with a uniform velocity equal to the instantaneous oscillating velocity. The reflected and the transmitted fields are obtained as the function of the incident angles, the dielecri'c permittivity, and the oscillating velocities according to the extended Lorentz transform.
This study proposes the integrity evaluation of bogie frame using ultrasonic waves-fractography analysis. Analysis objectives in this study are to investigate fracture planes of damaged zone by the A-scan method. The surface condition of fracture plane shows degree of degradation by stress concentration. The detection of the natural defects in bogie frame is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. Results of ultrasonic testing agree fairly well with those of actual fracture plane. In quantitative fractography analysis, microstructures of actual fracture plane turned out to be intergranular and transgranular fracture, Proposed ultrasonic-fractography analysis in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of the bogie frame
