  • Majority of industrial robots are controlled by a simple independent joint control of joint actuators rather than complex controllers based on the nonlinear dynamic model of the robot manipulator. In this independent joint control scheme, the performance of actuator control is influenced significantly by the joint disturbance torques including gravity, Coriolis and centrifugal torques, which result in the trajectory tracking error in the joint control system. The control performance of a redundant manipulator under independent joint control can be improved by minimizing this joint disturbance torque in resolving the kinematic redundancy. A 3 DOF planar robot is studied as an example, and the dynamic programming method is used to find the globally optimal joint trajectory that minimize the joint disturbance torque over the entire motion. The resulting solution is compared with the solution obtained by the conventional joint torque minimization, and it is shown that joint disturbance can be reduced using the kinematic redundancy.

  • The importance of the research on moment-resistant properties of unstiffened tubular joints and the research background are introduced. The performed experimental research on the bending rigidity and capacity of the joints is reported. The emphasis is put on the discussion of the flexural behavior of the joints including sets of geometrical parameters of the joints and several loading combinations. Procedures and results of loading tests on four full size joints in planar KK and X configuration are described in details at first. Mechanical models are proposed to analyze the joint specimens. Three-dimensional nonlinear FE models are established and verified with the experimental results. By comparing the experimental data with the results of the analysis, it is reported reasonable to carry out the structural analysis under the assumption that the joint is fully rigidly connected, and their bending capacities can assure the strength of the members connected under certain limitation. Furthermore, a parametric formula for inplane bengding rigidity of T and Y type tubular joints is proposed on the basis of FE calculation and regression analysis. Compared with test results, it is shown that the parametric formula developed in this paper has good applicability.

  • In this paper, the dynamic controller design problem of a redundant planar 2-dof parallel manipulator is studied. Using the Euler-Lagrange equation, we formulate the dynamic model of the parallel manipulator in the joint space and propose an augmented PD controller with forward dynamic compensation for the parallel manipulator. By formulating the controller in the joint space, we eliminate the complex computation of the Jacobian matrix of joint angles with end-effector coordinate. So with less computation, our controller is easier to implement, and a shorter sampling period can be achieved, which makes the controller more suitable for high-speed motion control. Furthermore, with the combination of static friction model and viscous friction model, the active joint friction of the parallel manipulator is studied and compensated in the controller. Based on the dynamic parameters of the parallel manipulator evaluated by direct measurement and identification, motion control experiments are implemented. With the experiments, the validity of the dynamic model is proved and the performance of the controller is evaluated. Experiment results show that, with forward dynamic compensation, the augmented PD controller can improve the tracking performance of the parallel manipulator over the simple PD controller.

  • In this paper, output precision characteristic of planar 3 and 6 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanisms are investigated. The 6 degree-of-freedom mechanism is formed by adding an additional small link along with an actuated joint in each of serial subchain of the 3 degree-of-freedom mechanism. First, kinematic analysis for two parallel mechanisms are performed, then their first-order kinematic characteristics are examined via isotropic index and minimum velocity transmission ratio of the mechanisms. It can be concluded that the planar 6 degrees-of-freedom parallel mechanism can be very effectively employed as a high-precision macro-micro manipulator from the analysis results when its link lengths are properly chosen.

  • Joints are planar tensile opening-mode fractures whose relative motion, as the fracture propagates, is perpendicular to bedding plane and occur in a systematic manner to form a joint set. This paper discusses the mechanical control of joint propagation, the relationship between join spacing and layer thickness, the join saturation, the frequency distribution of join spacing, the joint density, the cross joint, and the development mechanism of joint from a lot of recent joint studies in sedimentary rocks.

  • A redundantly actuated planar 3-degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism is analyzed to show its high application potential as a haptic device. Its structure along with the closed form forward position solutions is briefly discussed. Then its geometric and kinematic characteristics via singularity analysis, the kinematic isotropy index, and the input-output force transmission ratio are investigated both for the redundantly actuated cases and for the non-redundantly actuated case. In addition, comparative joint torque simulations of the mechanism with different number of redundant actuations as well as without redundant actuation are conducted to confirm the improved joint torque distribution characteristics. Through these analyses it is shown that the geometric and kinematic characteristics of the redundantly actuated mechanism are superior to the ones of the mechanism without redundant actuation. Thus, it can be concluded that the suggested planar mechanism with redundant actuation has a very high potential for haptic device applications.

  • An experimental research has been performed to evaluate the load transfer capacity for the planar joints between existing and new slab in an apartment remodelling constructions expecially for enlarging the interior space. Post-installed dowel bars were used as a joint connector. The existing slabs were obtained from the existing apartment housing which will be demolished, and were retrofitted with carbon fiber plate. Test results showed that the planar joints with post-installed dowel bars behaved in full composite modes until ultimate capacity of test specimens, so sufficient ultimate and serviceability performance are confirmed.

  • In this paper, output precision characteristics of a planar 6 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanisms are investigated, where the 6 degree-of-freedom mechanism is formed by adding an additional link along with an actuated joint in each serial subchain of the planar 3 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism. Kinematic analysis for the parallel mechanism is performed, and its first-order kinematic characteristics are examined via kinematic isotropic index, maximum and minimum input-output velocity transmission ratios of the mechanisms. Based on this analysis, two types of planar 6 degrees-of-freedom parallel manipulators are selected. Then, dynamic characteristics of the two selected planar 6 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanisms, via Frobenius norms of inertia matrix and power modeling array, are investigated to compare the magnitudes of required control efforts of both three large actuators and three small actuators when the link lengths of three additional links are changed. It can be concluded from the analysis results that each of these two planar 6 degrees-of-freedom parallel mechanisms has an excellent control-in-the-small characteristics and therefore, it can be very effectively employed as a high-precision macro-micro manipulator when both its link lengths and locations of small and large actuators are properly chosen.

  • In this paper. the power flow analysis(PFA) method is applied to the prediction of the vibrational energy density and intensity of coupled co-planar plates. To cover the energy transmission and reflection at the joint of the plates. the wave transmission approach is Introduced with the assumption that all the incident waves are normal to the joint. By changing the frequency ranges and internal loss factors. we have obtained the reliable PFA results. and compared them with the analytical exact solutions.
