A Study on the Digital Signal Processing for the Pattern fiecognition of Weld Flaws (용접결함의 패턴인식을 위한 디지털 신호처리에 관한 연구)

  • In this syudy, the researches classifying the artificial and natural flaws in welding parts are performed using the smart pattern recognition technology. For this purpose the smart signal pattern recognition package including the user defined function was developed and the total procedure including the digital signal processing,feature extraction , feature selection and classifier selection is treated by bulk. Specially it is composed with and discussed using the statistical classifier such as the linear disciminant function classifier, the empirical Bayesian classifier. Also, the smart pattern recognition technology is applied to classification problem of natural flaw(i.e multiple classification problem-crack,lack of penetration,lack of fusion,porosity,and slag inclusion, the planar and volumetric flaw classification problem). According to this results, if appropriately learned the neural network classifier is better than ststistical classifier in the classification problem of natural flaw. And it is possible to acquire the recognition rate of 80% above through it is different a little according to domain extracting the feature and the classifier.

  • Nuclear safety law's amendment caused many problems to use radiography testing(RT). Phased array ultrasonic testing(PAUT) was adapted instead of RT for NDE of welding points in boiler tubes these days. Unfortunately, PAUT doesn't give us the discrimination characteristics about flaws distinction and flaws size clearly. In this thesis, the distinction characteristics of flaw types and the detection characteristics of flaw size using PAUT of welding points in boiler tubes were analyzed. It was concluded that PAUT can distinguish between planar flaws and rounded flaws, but it is hard to tell apart the types of flaw respectively. We paid attention to the discrimination of flaws size because PAUT tends to underestimate the flaw size of porosity and underestimate or overestimate the flaw size of porosity.

  • This paper supplements shortcoming of radioactivity check by detecting defect of SWP weld zone using ultrasonic wave. Manufacture 2 stage robot detection systems that can follow weld bead of SWP by method to detect weld defects of SWP that shape of weld bead is complex for this as quantitative. Also, through signal processing ultrasonic wave defect signal system of GUI environment that can grasp easily existence availability of defect because do videotex compose. Ultrasonic wave signal of weld defects develops artificial intelligence style sightseeing system to enhance pattern recognition of weld defects and the classification rate using neural net.   • This study was carried out to investigate a influence of humidity variation (%) on the magnetic properties and the surface flaws in the fabrication of Fe-based $Fe_{78}Si_9B_{13}$ amorphous alloy ribbon by Planar Flow Casting process. As a result, the size of the air pocket and the droplet which is observed in the contact surface and the free face of the amorphous alloy ribbon becomes large when the humidity increases and the size highly increases with the surface roughness at the same time. Especially, the surface roughness value which is made in the 65 % of the humidity is the lowest in the contact surface ($Ra=0.60{\mu}m$, $Rz=3.11{\mu}m$) and the free face ($Ra=0.47{\mu}m$, $Rz=3.00{\mu}m$). Also, in case of the soft magnetic property of the magnetic core which is made with the toroidal core of $23(OD)^*20(ID)^*20(H)$ size, in the sample of the amorphous alloy ribbon which is made in 65% of the humidity, the most excellent value is gained as $B_s(B_{700})=1.055T$, $H_c=0.083Oe$, permeability = 1,197 and core loss = 0.276W/kg.

  • In ultrasonic testing, flaw signal from which quantitative information on flaws is determined is influenced by 3 factors : (1) the incident wavefield.produced by the transducer, (2) the scattered waves produced by flaws, and (3) the reception of the scattered waves back at the transducer. So even small changes in transducer performance due to aging or unexpected damages can produce the changes in the characteristics of flaw signal and finally the changes in the quantitative information on flaws. Thus a reliable calibration method of transducer performance is desired. Recently, theoretical models for ultrasonic testing have been employed as reference standards for the calibration of transducers which are considered as circular planar piston sources in the most of cases. But this simplification cannot be applied to partially damaged transducer which has lost their symmetry in performance, even not in appearance. Unfortunately there has been no reliable practical model which can be used for the calibration of partially damaged transducers. Here a pulse-echo testing model for partially damaged ultrasonic transducers was developed with experimental verification. The experimental responses agree very well with the theoretical prediction. So we expect that this model can be served as a theoretical reference standards for transducer calibration.
