  • This paper proposes an improved carrier frequency offset (CFO) and sampling frequency offset (SFO) estimation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based broadcasting system with cyclic delay diversity (CDD) antenna. By exploiting a periodic nature of channel transfer function, cyclic delay and pilot pattern with a maximum channel power are carefully chosen, which helps to enable a robust estimation of CFO and SFO against the frequency selectivity of the channel. As a performance measure, a closed-form expression for the achievable mean square error of the proposed scheme is derived and is verified through simulations using the parameters of the digital radio mondiale standard. The comparison results show that the proposed frequency estimator is shown to benefit from properly selected delay parameter and pilot pattern, with a performance better than the existing estimator.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to present selection criteria for ROK Airforce pilot training candidates in order to save costs involved in sequential pilot training. We use classification models such Decision Tree, Logistic Regression and Neural Network based on aptitude test results of 288 ROK Air Force applicants in 1994-1996. Different models are compared in terms of classification accuracy, ROC and Lift-value. Neural network is evaluated as the best model for each sequential flight test result while Logistic regression model outperforms the rest of them for discriminating the last flight test result. Therefore we suggest a pilot selection criterion based on this logistic regression. Overall. we find that the factors such as Attention Sharing, Speed Tracking, Machine Comprehension and Instrument Reading Ability having significant effects on the flight results. We expect that the use of our criteria can increase the effectiveness of flight resources.

  • The main purpose of this paper is cost reduction in absurd pilot positive expense and human accident prevention which is caused by in the pilot selection process. We use classification models such as logistic regression, decision tree, and neural network based on aptitude test results of 505 ROK Air Force applicants in 2001~2004. First, we determine the reliability and propriety against the aptitude test system which has been improved. Based on this conference flight simulator test item was compared to the new aptitude test item in order to make additional yes or no decision from different models in terms of classification accuracy, ROC and Response Threshold side. Decision tree was selected as the most efficient for each sequential flight training result and the last flight training results predict excellent. Therefore, we propose that the standard of pilot selection be adopted by the decision tree and it presents in the aptitude test item which is new a conference flight simulator test.

  • In this paper we address the problem of capacity optimization in a Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) radio network. We present an optimization algorithm for finding the best settings of the antenna tilt and common pilot channel power of the base stations. This algorithm is a parametric method, based on a set of rules. We evaluated our optimization technique on a virtual network scenario with 75 cells. For this scenario we show an increase in capacity compared to the initial settings of about 60 percent.

  • Co-channel interference between macro-femtocell networks is an unresolved problem, due to the frequency reuse phenomenon. To mitigate such interference, a secondary femtocell must acquire channel-state knowledge about a co-channel macrocell user and accordingly condition the maximum transmit power of femtocell user. This paper proposes a pilot-based spectrum sensing (PSS) algorithm for overlaid femtocell networks to sense the presence of a macrocell user over a channel of interest. The PSS algorithm senses the pilot tones in the received signal through the power level and the correlation metric comparisons between the received signal and the local reference pilots. On ensuring the existence of a co-channel macrocell user, the maximum transmit power of the corresponding femtocell user is optimized so as to avoid interference. Time and frequency offsets are carefully handled in our proposal. Simulation results show that the PSS algorithm outperforms existing sensing techniques, even at poor received signal quality. It requires less sensing time and provides better detection probability over existing techniques.

  • There are two to three helicopter accidents every year in Korea, representing 5.7 deaths per 100,000 flights. In this study, an analysis was conducted on helicopter accidents that occurred in Korea from 2005 to 2017. The accident analysis was based on the aircraft accident and incident report published by the Aircraft and Railway Accident Investigation Board. This Research analyzed the characteristics of accidents occurring in Korea caused by human error by pilots. Accident analysis was done by classifying the organization, flight mission, aircraft class, flight stage, accident cause, etc. Pilot's huan error was classified as Skill-based error, decision error and perceptual error in accordance with the HFACS taxonomy. The accidents caused by pilot's human error were classified into five categories: powerlines collision, loss of control, fuel exhaustion, unstable approach to reservoir, and elimination of tail rotor.

  • This paper suggests novel signal processing methods for optimal beamforming of smart antenna system in CDMA2000 mobile communication environments. This method utilize characteristics of the reverse pilot channel of CDMA2000 mobile communication systems, and applies them to improve the performance of an adaptive algorithm, which is used to a smart antenna system for beamforming. To perform the best beamforming, it is important to get an exact beamforming algorithm. This paper proposed an algorithm based on Laglange multiplier which has such an adaptive process, and also proposed the method to demodulate the received signal through array antenna using pilot channel in CDMA2000 environment. This paper analysed the enhanced performance of proposed algorithm in various signal environment through signal modeling of physical layer in CDMA2000 reverse link.

  • In this paper, the performances of a single-user DS-UWB system applying two simple proposed channel estimation schemes are introduced, according to the newly updated DS-UWB PHY Layer standard from IEEE P802.15.3a. The performances of error control coding, different combining schemes in selective Rake receiver for DS-UWB system are analyzed. Both of the two channel estimation schemes using data-independent structure work well in DS-UWB system with few pilot bits. For the purpose of channel estimation and reduces the number of pilot bits, we apply a pilot symbol spreaded with $2{^8}-1\;or\;2{^9}-1$ periods of m-sequence for different channel estimation schemes.

  • Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has designed the 3MW pilot scale wet FGD process based on the experimental results of the bench scale FGD system which can treat 150 m3/hr of flue gases. The effects of process chemistry, packing material, and operating variables including L/G ratio, pH, scrubber pressure drop were investigated. In cooperation with Kyunggi Chemicals, the 3MW pilot scale plant was established on the industrial site at Onsan, Korea. This system has been operating since October 1999. This paper introduces an outline of the design features of the pilot plant and discusses its operational results.

The purpose of this paper is to develop and propose a pilot system and the Abandoned Mine GIS. The basic concept for the establishment of the Abandoned Mine GIS is embodied through case studies of various countries. Gosari region in Samcheok City is selected as a sample site for a pilot system. Through construction and operation of the pilot system, a rational method and some difficulties are identified. Based on tole result of the pilot system, directions and schedules for the establishment of the Abandoned Mine GIS are presented.
