  • In this study we present the inverse correlation method to select the exploratory variables, while Sugeno used RC method in his paper[6] We assume linear model with measurement error variables as in Fuller's Book[9]. we provide possibilistic linear model and predict the fuzzy response variable in case of fuzzy exploratory variables. By plotting data we can divide them for piecewise plane and provide the piecwise possibilistic linear model. If the exploratory variable is fuzzy trapezoidal variable or interval variable, then we estimate fuzzy trapezoidal variable or interval variable, then we estimate fuzzy trapezoidal response variable respondent to it. We will illustrate using Nonlinear System data in Sugeno's paper

  • In video compression standards such as MPEG and H.263. rate control is one of the key components for good coding performance. This paper presents a simple adaptive rate control scheme using a piecewise linear approximation model. While conventional buffer control approach is performed by adjusting the quantization parameter linearly according to the buffer fullness. the proposed approach uses a piecewise linear approximation model derived from logarithmic relation between the quantization parameter and bitrate in data compression. In addition. a forward analyzer performed in the spatial domain is used to improve image quality. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method provides better performance than the conventional one and reduces the fluctuation of the PSNR per frame while maintaining the quality of the reconstructed frames at a relatively stable level.

  • Pipe welding is used in various ranges such as civil engineering and ship building engineering. Until now, many technicians work for pipe welding manually under harmful, dangerous and difficult conditions. So it is necessary to install automation process. For automation pipe welding, relation between welding parameters & bead shape should be considered. Using this relation, bead shape could be expected from welding parameters. FCAW was used in this study. Instead of pipe workpiece, fillet joint plate is used, which were inclined 0,45,90,135,180 degree. By analyzing between welding parameters (current, welding speed, voltage) and bead shape parameters with non-linear multiple regression, bead shape parameters could be expected. Piecewise Cubic Hermite Interpolation was used to expect smooth curved bead shape with bead shape parameters. From these processes, bead shape could be expected from welding parameters.

  • Current sensors that use a Hall element and Hall IC to measure the magnetic fields generated in steel silicon core gaps do not distinguish between direct and alternating currents. Thus, they are primarily used to measure direct current (DC) in industrial equipment. Although such sensors can measure the DC when installed in expensive equipment, ascertaining problems becomes difficult if the equipment is set up in an unexposed space. The control box is only opened during scheduled maintenance or when anomalies occur. Therefore, in this paper, a method is proposed for facilitating the safety management and maintenance of equipment when necessary, instead of waiting for anomalies or scheduled maintenance. A Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy current-sensor system based on near-field communication is used, which compensates for the nonlinearity of the current-sensor output signal using a piecewise linear model. The sensor is controlled using its generic attribute profile. Sensor nodes and cell phones used to check the signals obtained from the sensor at 50-A input currents showed an accuracy of ±1%, exhibiting linearity in all communications within the range of 0 to 50 A, with a stable output voltage for each communication segment.

  • Due to non-linear characteristics of color spaces, color corrections using linear conversions for real image near color reappearance causes color distortions. In order to overcome this problem, the Bezier Curve, constructed with a set of arbitrary plane in the linear theory, has been used. However, the Bezier Curve increases in proportion to the number of data points, resulting in higher computational complexities. This paper attempts to use a Triplicated Piecewise Bezier Cubic-Curve (TPBC-Curve) of which the degree is cubic on the whole interval while keeping the characteristics of Bezier Curves. By Comparing the TPBC-Curve with Bezier Curve of 20 degree, the paper not only reduces the distortion during color correction but also lessens the relative increase of workload that is caused by the color correction in a small zone.

  • The performance of bolted side-plated (BSP) beams is affected by the degree of transverse partial interaction, which is a result of the interfacial slip caused by transverse shear transfer between the bolted steel plates and the reinforced concrete beams. However, explicit formulae for the transverse shear transfer profile have yet to be derived. In this paper, a simplified piecewise linear shear transfer model was proposed based on force superposition principle and simplification of shear transfer profiles derived from a previous numerical study. The magnitude of shear transfer was determined by force equilibrium and displacement compatibility condition. A set of design formulae for BSP beams under several basic load cases was also derived. Then the model was verified by test results. A worked example was also provided to illustrate the application of the proposed design formulae. This paper sheds some light on the shear force transfer mechanism of anchor bolts in BSP beams, and offers a practical method to evaluate the influence of transverse partial interaction in strengthening design.

  • Precise image-to-image registration is required to process multi-sensor data together. The purpose of this paper is to develop an algorithm that register between high-resolution optical and SAR images using linear features. As a pre-processing step, initial alignment was fulfilled using manually selected tie points to remove any dislocations caused by scale difference, rotation, and translation of images. Canny edge operator was applied to both images to extract linear features. These features were used to design a cost function that finds matching points based on their similarity. Outliers having larger geometric differences than general matching points were eliminated. The remaining points were used to construct a new transformation model, which was combined the piecewise linear function with the global affine transformation, and applied to increase the accuracy of geometric correction.

  • Although solar insolation is the weather factor with the greatest influence on power generation in photovoltaic systems, the Meterological Agency does not provide solar insolation data for future dates. Therefore, it is essential to research prediction methods for solar insolation to efficiently manage photovoltaic systems. In this study, we propose a Dynamic Piecewise Prediction Model that can be used to predict solar insolation values for future dates based on information from the weather forecast. To improve the predictive accuracy, we dynamically divide the entire data set based on the sun altitude and cloudiness at the time of prediction. The Dynamic Piecewise Prediction Model is developed by applying a polynomial linear regression algorithm on the divided data set. To verify the performance of our proposed model, we compared our model to previous approaches. The result of the comparison shows that the proposed model is superior to previous approaches in that it produces a lower prediction error.

  • This paper provides a new approach to analyze the stability of a general multi-link TCP Vegas, which is a kind of feedback-based congestion algorithm. Whereas the conventional approaches use the approximately linearized model of the TCP Vegas along equilibrium pints, this approach models a multi-link TCP Vegas network in the form of a piecewise linear multiple time-delay system. And then, based on the exactly characterized dynamic model, this paper presents a new stability criterion via a piecewise and multiple delay-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii function. Especially, the resulting stability criterion is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

  • This paper derive a method to solve change point regression problems via a process for obtaining consequential results using properties of a difference-based intercept estimator first introduced by Park and Kim (Communications in Statistics - Theory Methods, 2019) for outlier detection in multiple linear regression models. We describe the statistical properties of the difference-based regression model in a piecewise simple linear regression model and then propose an efficient algorithm for change point detection. We illustrate the merits of our proposed method in the light of comparison with several existing methods under simulation studies and real data analysis. This methodology is quite valuable, "no matter what regression lines" and "no matter what the number of change points".
