  • In commemoration of Vol. 30, Issue 1, our journal prepares four review articles and two original papers. The first review article provides guidelines for medical treatment for emergencies in an aircraft furing flight. This guideline addresses the resources and medical equipment available to physicians on board, common medical conditions, how to deal with them, including legal issues. The second review article covers historically meaningful animals that have contributed to aerospace research and the role of a veterinarian. The third one describes cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and vestibular physiological effects of microgravity on the human body. As we are about to enter an aging society, the fourth review article introduces guidelines for safe overseas travel for senior passengers. The role of the aviation medical examiner is to maintain aircrew's health and to help them work long and healthy. In this regard, Choi et al. analyzed the physical examination data and sick leave data of an airline. Han et al. investigated the aerospace medical examination data of the Republic of Korea and suggested a solution to some common health problems of the crew.

The samples of this study consisted of 353 nurses from 8 general hospitals located in Seoul and Youngnam area in Korea. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using hierarchical regression technique. Contrary to the predictions of the interaction, main effect or cultural model, the results of this study show that both distributive and procedural justice have significant positive impacts on job satisfaction and organizational commitment among hospital nurses, and the former has stronger effects than the latter. The results imply that hospital administrators should take measures to establish procedural and distributive justice to increase job satisfaction and organizational commitment among hospital nurses.

  • Biliary ascariasis is still the leading cause of surgical complication of ascariasis, though its incidence has been dramatically reduced. Herein, we report a case of biliary ascariasis for the purpose of enhancing awareness of parasitic infections as a possible cause. A 72-year-old male visited the emergency room of Dankook University Hospital on 12 July 2015, complaining of right-upper-quadrant pain. By endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), a tubular filling defect in the right hepatic duct was detected. The defect was endoscopically removed and diagnosed as an adult female of Ascaris lumbricoides worm, of 30 cm length. Upon removal of the worm, the pain subsided, and the patient was discharged without any complication. When treating cases of biliary colic, physicians should not neglect biliary ascariasis as the possible cause.

  • Three-dimensional ultrasound imaging is a new, exciting technology that allows physicians to use ultrasound to view pathology as a volume, thereby enhancing comprehension of patient anatomy. In this paper, a brief history of the 3-D ultrasound imaging is described in accordance with the development of transducer technology. Then, two representative types of 3-D imaging transducers are reviewed with description of the concept and operation principle of each type: mechanical transducer and matrix array transducer. The mechanical transducer is detailed into free-hand scanning and sequential scanning types. Advantages of each transducer over the other and the technical issues for further performance enhancement are also presented.

  • In order to know the prevalence of head louse among the school children in rural area, we visited 3 primary schools and a kindergarten in Sanbuk-myon, Mungyong-gun, Kyongsangbuk-do in July 1985, and examined the children to identify the adult worms of head louse and/or its nits on the hair. The overall infestation rate was 91.9% among 420 children examined, and there was a difference between schools (P<0.05). The school girls' rate, 96.1% was higher than that of boys' 88.9%(P<0.05). By grade, the rate of infant school was 88.5% and 1st to 6th grade were 100, 100, 95.8, 90.4, 89.7, 80.0% respectively. Above result indicates that the head louse is an important health problem in this community. • It is well-known fact that Korean medicine is related to Taoism. Dong-$\breve{u}$ibogam(東醫寶鑑) was written by Heo-Jun(許浚) in Jo-seon(朝鮮) dynasty. Heo-Jun complied all of past studies on Korean medicine in this book. On the basis of Naegyoung(內徑), he accepted the theory of four eminent physicians of the K$\breve{u}$m and Won Dynasty(金元時代) in ancient China and Eubangyouchui(醫方類聚), $\breve{U}$irimch'waryo(醫林撮要), Hyang-yakjips$\breve{o}$ngbang(鄕藥集成方) in Jo-seon. Especially, Dong-$\breve{u}$ibogam is so characteristic of Taoism than any other medical books written in China or Korea before. In this study, I researched the relation between Dong-$\breve{u}$ibogam and Taosim on the views of authors, organization, reference hooks, contents.

  • This report presents the date obtained in a 1990 survery al radiation oncology identified by KSTRO. This study was done to find out the status of current use of the radation thrapy equipments, personnels, utilization of equipments and orther problems in the field of radiation oncology department in korea. Our discussion addresses the areas of regional imbalance in the distribution of megavolage units, buying and selecting the units, improving of quality in radiation treatments. There is increasing use of linear accelerators, simulators, treatment planning computers. The use of Cp-60 units has been prohressively decreasing. And slowly improving, numbers of physicians, physicists, and technologists when compared with the 1988. A total of 51 megavoltage units were identified, giving a ratio of 1.88 technologists/ megavoltage units. We treat average 23.0 patients by megavoltage units.
