Understanding of Rett Syndrome (레트 증후군의 이해)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is understanding of Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a common developmental - neurologic disorder that has been reported almost exclusively in female. Recently mutations in the gene encoding X-linked methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MECP2) have been identified as the cause of Rett syndrome. Consistent with the diagnostic criteria, hand skills, verbal or non - verbal communication skills and common motor skills were lost during regression. Regression most commonly occurred between 12 and 18 months of age. Methods : This is a literature study with books, articles, web site for Rett syndrome international association. Results : There is a continuing need to further elucidate the pre- and post - regression features of Rett syndrome. Rett syndrome need to physical therapy, musical therapy, special education and medical interventions. Conclusion : There has not been therapeutic method to the root of Rett syndrome but our goal is relaxation of symptom and physical therapist's study of Rett syndrome.

  • The aim of this study is to show that using a Web-Based Instruction system is a better method to help counteract deficient teaching, learning conditions and facilities thus improving the students' interest, understanding, participation and skill development in Physical Education. The key findings of this study are as follows; The first advantage of using this system is that the theory of Softball is explained with the use of pictures rather than text, thus improving the students' understanding. The second is the method in which practical skills are explained and demonstrated. Action image sequences are used as opposed to the old method of using stationary pictures. This means that the learners can clearly see and understand why and, more importantly, how to use these skills. The third advantage is the technique used to teach the application of these skills. Using active rather than passive learning and thus engaging the student encourages improved participation and learning. The fourth advantage comes in evaluation: both subjective and objective questions are asked in theoretical evaluation, and the teachers can evaluate the students' understanding and skill development by filming their actual Softball games.   • The discussion about environmental education is a little new concept which emerged remarkably in late 1960s. The environmental education means the educational curriculum which make sure value understanding and conception to develop function and attitudes necessary for the proper understanding and evaluating the interaction between human beings and physical environment Centenng an important geographical paraingm for 'the interaction between human beings and physical environment', to make the students understand the concept of environment and know environmental problems are the tasks to be pursued in environmental education courses in the middle school geography classes. The reasonable understanding of environmental problems and voluntary participation through the efficient environmental education in middle school geography classes, not only the systemization of educational curriculum and other needed changes mentioned above, but also the development of policy and institution in national government accompanying with earnest attention and effort must be made in environmental education and other environment-related fields.

  • Arthritis may well be the diagnosis most commonly encountered by physicla therapists. Until the past few year, physical therapy treatment programs for arthritis consisting of heat, ROM, isometric exercise and rest were the rule. But now physical therapy treatment activities have changee. New philosophies, about exercise in particular, have emerge, as well as an improved understanding and application of physical agents. Therefore a review of the literature regarding physical therapy for rheumatoid arthritis is presented.

A Survey on the Understanding of High School Teachers about Physical Therapist (고등학교 교사들의 물리치료사에 대한 인식도에 관한 조사)

  • This study was carried out to recognize the understanding of high school teachers about physical therapist during September in 1988, The study population was comprised of 511 high school teachers who had lived in Seoul and Kyunggi Province. Mate teachers were $56\%$ and the rest of them were females. In age distribution $45.4\%$ of them belonged to the 3rd decade, in religion $36.2\%$ of them were Christians, and in their carrier $45.8\%$ of them were less then 5 years. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The high school teachers who knew about department of physical therapy is amounted to $62.6\%$ in male and $49.8\%$ in female. The high school teachers ($41.7\%$ in male and $38.6\%$ in female) considered that students aptitude was the most important thing to keep in mind in counselling those who wished to become physical therapists. There were difference in opinion between male and female teachers as to the counselling criteria (p<0.05). 2. The high school teachers who knew that the students would beemployed in sport center and health clubs after graduation amounted to $24.3\%$ in males and in general hospital to $27.1\%$ in female. There was significant difference in the knowledge for their field of employment between male and female teachers (p<0.05). 3. As to the effectiveness of the physical therapy, $41.3\%$ of male and $29.8\%$ of the female teachers responded to 'satisfactory', but indicating no statistical difference both sexes. 4. As for the attitude of physical therapiest, $43\%$ of them answered that kindness and service devotion were the prerequisite for them. There were statistical difference between male and female teachers in concepts about attitude (p<0.05). To the social level of physical therapist, majority of the teachers thought that physical therapist belong to moderate level in social class. 5. Those who considered that the physical therapy was necessary means for treatment of trauma amounted to $73\%$. The reason why teachers thought that physical therapy was not necessary was that it required too long period of time for the treatment. 6. Those who knew fully the job of physical therapist amounted to $55\%$ and the 55. $9\%$ knew that physical therapists work only at hospitals as the therapist and the rest of them misunderstood the job of physical therapist. 7. As for the academic background to be qualified as physical therapist, $76.2\%$ of them said that graduation of Junior College was required, $12.9\%$ graduation of Senior College and the rest of them had no ideas at all. There was no statistical difference between male and female teachers.

A Study on the Needs and Understanding about the Home Physical Therapy System (가정 물리치료제도에 대한 인식 및 필요에 대한 조사연구 -가정간호수습생을 대상으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the need and understanding about the physical therapy. The subjects of this study were 101 licensee nurses who was taking the home nursing trainers. The results were as follows: 1. The home nursing trainers(97.1%) were required the need for home physical therapy service. The reasons which requires the home physical therapy were 'the increased elderly patients(97.0%)', 'the early leaving of the hospital(96.0.%)', 'the lack of caretakers(96.0%)', and 'the increased chronic patients(96.0%)'. 2. The ratio of affirmation of home physical therapy system was 97% of the home nursing trainers, the reasons which were helped the patients was 'the saved time(97.0%)'. 'the decreased psychological stress(95.0%)' 'the continuing treatment after discharge(93.0%)' and 'the teaching patients and caretakers(93.0%)'. 3. The main center which was organized the home physical therapy service was 'the department of home physical therapy arid the home nurse(42.6%)', 'the department of home nurse(22.8%)', and 'the department of home physical therapy(1l.9%)'. 4. The home nursing trainers wanted to learn the home physical therapy methods for chronic patients(95.0%). The contents of home physical therapy methods was 'the therapeutic exercise for preventing deformity(15.4%)', and 'maintenance of normal posture and howe to change body position(12.4%)'. 5. Statistically significant difference in the teams (the home physical therapy, the home nurse, and the home physical therapy with the home nurse) was found between the age groups, and statistically significant difference in the teams was found between the educational degree groups.

  • Understanding sciences behind fall-related hip fractures in older adults is important to develop effective interventions for prevention. The aim of this review is to provide biomechanical understanding and prevention strategies of falls and related hip fractures in older adults, in order to guide future research directions from biomechanical perspectives. While most hip fractures are due to a fall, a few of falls are injurious causing hip fractures, and most falls are non-injurious. Fall mechanics are important in determining injurious versus non-injurious falls. Many different biomechanical factors contribute to the risk of hip fracture, and effects of each individual factors are known well. However, combining effects, and correlation and causation among the factors are poorly understood. While fall prevention interventions include exercise, vision correction, vitamin D intake and environment modification, injury prevention strategies include use of hip protectors, compliant flooring and safe landing strategies, vitamin D intake and exercise. While fall risk assessments have well been established, limited efforts have been made for injury risk assessments. Better understanding is necessary on the correlation and causation among factors affecting the risk of falls and related hip fractures in older adults. Development of the hip fracture risk assessment technique is required to establish more efficient intervention models for fall-related hip fractures in older adults.

Content Analysis on the Expression Activity in the Middle School Physical Education Textbooks of 2009 Curriculum Revision (2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 중학교 체육교과서 표현활동 영역 체제 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to conduct content analysis on expression activity section in the physical education textbooks of 2009 curriculum revision and provide a basis for future middle school physical education. in order to accomplish the purpose of this study, 5 different kinds of physical education textbook. The physical education textbooks were examined through the comparative analysis and previous studies conducted for selections of the analysis bases. The results were as follows. First, textbooks devoted the space from 14.1 to 17.3%. In deployment and configuration of the section, each textbooks were used variety of methods, photographs and illustrations for motivations and advanced learning. Second, the instructional objectives were presented 4-6 each text book including expression activity concepts, understanding expression methods, personal competence reinforcement through creative activity, and watching performances. Learning contents were to focus on the concepts of aesthetic component in the esthetical expression, to highlight creative component in the modern expression, to express characteristic dances through understanding of the culture in the traditional expression. lastly, the middle assessments hight the understanding of each contents but small assessments focus on attitudes of character education.

Study on Guidelines for Using Therapeutic Modalities According to Injury Phases of Soft Tissue (치료적 방법을 연부조직 손상단계에 따라 사용하기 위한 지침에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to understanding on guidelines for using therapeutic modalities according to injury phases of soft tissue. Clinical decisions on how and when therapeutic modalities may be used should be based on recognition of signs and symptoms. as well as some awareness of the time frames associated with the various phases of the Healing process. The physical therapist must have a sound understanding of that process in terms of the sequence of the various process of healing stage. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Once an acute injury has occured, the healing process consists of the imflammatory response phase, the fibroblastic-repair phase, and the maturation-remodeling phase and can impede by various pathologic factors. 2. Modality use in the initial acute injury phase and the inflammatory response phase should be directed toward limiting the amount of swelling and reducing pain. 3. Modality use in the Fibroblastic repair phase may be change from cold to heat. The purpose of heat is to increase circulation to the injured area to promote healing. 4. During the Maturation-Remodeling phase, some type of heating modalities, ultrasound, or short wave and microwave diathermy should be used to increase circulation to the deeper tissue. In this phases, physical therapists must control training and conditioning habits to allow the injury to heal sufficiently.
