  • This study examined the overall effect size of the batterer intervention programs aimed at reducing violent behavior. This study calculated the 18 results and the 115 effect sizes of 11 theses published from 2000 to 2017 in Korea. It was demonstrated that the effect of an offender's program on the change in violent behavior was significant at both the practical and treatment level. The effect size was high in the order of control behavior, emotional violence, and physical violence. The effects of dependent variables other than violence were also researched. The batterer program positively changed the participant's attitudes in terms of sex-role and partner violence. Furthermore, it decreased the level of anger and depression, and enhanced self-esteem and communication skills thus increasing satisfaction in marital relationships. In addition, this study examined the factors that influence the effect of the offender's program in terms of the decrease of violent behavior. Upon analysis, it was examined that the moderating effect was great in the approach model and counsel form. More specifically, it was revealed that the feminist-cognitive behavioral models had a greater effect than the compromise model or single model. In terms of counsel forms, group counseling formed only of male offenders had greater effect than couples treatment group. Based on these findings, this study discussed the practical means for increasing the effect of batterer intervention programs.

A positive interpretation of Louis Lavelle for the Presence of Evil and Pain, and its Limitations - Focusing on evil and suffering - (루이 라벨의 '악의 현존과 고통'에 대한 긍정적인 해석 그리고 그 한계 - 『악과 고통들』을 중심으로 -)

  • In the philosophy of Louis Labelle, the subject of "good and evil", which is rarely discussed in modern philosophy, emerges as a very important concept. In his reasoning, the notion of evil starts from a passive stipulation of the Scholastic philosophy of "the lack of being", but he defined the evil, which actually exists in the world with more positive sense as a willing force destroying "life and values". In his reasoning that defines "the presence of evil" as "le scandale du monde", all humans have the possibility of evil as an attitude of will, and the presence of evil in the world and in human society is inevitable. On the other hand, because the outcome of evil appears as physical and mental "pain", the human's attitude toward pain, which attempts to deny suffering, induces a moral will to overcome this evil. The moral anguish, which is the "internal suffering" that we have in front of the presence of evil, makes us conscious of becoming a "moral being", and people become self-satisfied here. Although painful, self-satisfaction and happiness about becoming a moral being is the only occasion and motive for man to overcome this by opposing the presence of evil. In other words, Lavelle's thoughts for good and evil are based on "moral psychologism", and the "coherence of psychological horizons and ethical horizons" between rejection of suffering and moral agony enables "ethical optimism" that man constantly overcomes evil and produces good. This is clearly an advanced modern application of scholasticism on the concept of evil.

Bootstrapping was carried out in order to find out factors affecting rapidly changing new business environments and retirees' initial intent to start a business so as to verify basic hypothesis about relation between retirees' evaluation of starting food service business (social, economic, and psychological effects) and the effectiveness of their new business and quality of life and confirm whether the effectiveness of the new business acts as a medium between the evaluation of starting food service business and quality of life. In addition, PLS-MGA was performed in order to verify whether the correlations among test factors can be varied according to the kind of job the target retirees had. Having examined the basic thesis, it was found that social and economic factors had significant positive effect on the effectiveness of the new business, and social and psychological factors had significant positive effect on the quality of life. Having analyzed whether the effectiveness of new business acted as a media between evaluation of starting food service business and quality of life, there was no significant effect as a medium. Having studied whether the kind of job of the retirees controlled or affected the relations among evaluation of starting food service business, effectiveness of new business and quality of life, the results were as follows: in the office job retiree group, the greater economic factor led to increase of effectiveness of new business, while social and psychological factors influenced the quality of life; In the physical labor group, the higher social factor resulted in higher effectiveness of new business, which showed significant positive effect on the quality of life. Having researched about which element is considered to be most important in starting food service business, the most important element was found to be dish/menu, followed by staff management, accounting management, business management, and service education. Having analyzed relation between accomplishment and important consideration for starting food service business, "managers with entrepreneurship," "appropriate distribution of time to prepare for starting business," and "operation of practical field education programs" showed higher importance compared to the degree of satisfaction, so it is needed to more concentrate on the above matters. • This study investigated the status of drinking highly caffeinated beverages by Korean adolescents, and we identified the factors influencing this behavior by Korean adolescents by using statistics from the 13th (2017) Survey on Youth Health Behavior Online Survey. The data was collected from 62,276 middle and high school students and the variables of this study included demographic factors, health behavioral factors, mental health factors and the availability of highly caffeinated beverages. The methods of data analysis included descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests and logistic regression analysis. This study found that the intake rate of highly caffeinated beverages was 1.9% for men and 1.5% for women, and these percentages increased with age (p<0.001). Current smoking and drinking, current drug usage and active people also had high intake of caffeinated beverages (p<0.001). A high level of stress, a low level of subjective sleep satisfaction and a feeling of happiness increased the rate of consuming highly caffeinated beverages. The factors of drinking highly caffeinated beverages were gender, age, smoking, physical activity, drug use, stress level, depression and suicidal ideation. Therefore, continuous discussion is needed to improve both the health behavior and mental health by managing the stress felt by Korean adolescents.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of respiratory rehabilitation using a wind instrument for patients suffering from spinal cord injuries. From January 15, 2018 to April 15, 2018, we conducted ten 1-hour sessions of a harmonica program with eight patients with spinal cord injuries with average age of 37 years who could not perform abdominal breathing by themselves. We measured and compared patients' breathing capacity before and after the 10 sessions. Designed particularly for patients with spinal cord injuries resulting in a limited range of neck movement, the study used a 10-hole diatonic harmonica whose length was relatively short. For those patients who had difficulty using their hands, a harmonica holder was provided. Participants were trained to play simple tunes. They were guided to use abdominal breathing to make sounds, with emphasis on those parts requiring long and strong breathing. The results showed that for all eight patients both their breathing volume and their inspiratory volume increased following participation in the harmonica program. Also, the program had psychological benefits (e.g., more life satisfaction and less sadness) and additional physical benefits (e.g., less dizziness due to low blood pressure and better phlegm spitting). This study offers a unique way to help patients with spinal cord injuries to improve their breathing capacity, which may also be associated with a greater quality of life.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the reason and value system of the elderly people on the public library use in Korea. For the purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted for elderly aged over 60, from 15 public libraries in Seoul from October 29 to October 10, 2018, and 306 valid responses collected were analyzed. The value system is based on the Means-end Chain (MEC) Theory, and the linkage between the attributes, consequences, and values of public library use is figured out as a value hierarchy. As a result, the most frequently revealed value system was 'reads or borrows books (attribute) ${\rightarrow}$ gets new knowledge (consequence) ${\rightarrow}$ satisfies oneself (value).' For the value reached by using the public library, both groups answered that their satisfaction, achievement, fun, pleasure, and vitality. However, the elderly aged 65 and over additionally felt that public libraries are good for their mental / physical health. The results showed that the elderly people using the public library feels the traditional functions of the public library as the main attribute, and the public library could provide the elderly people with contribution to the lively old age.

  • The acupressure is a treatment that applies pressure to certain parts of the body and has been mainly used for pain relief in the field of oriental medicine. However, the treatment effect is often different depending on the practitioner's ability, experience, and physical strength, so standardized acupressure is needed. In this regard, the equipment is being released, but this is mainly a rolling massage method, which reduces energy concentration and poses a risk of injury. Therefore, in this study, a device that provides vertical acupressure based on variable bogie (wheel truck) was implemented. As a result of experimenting with load and body pressure distribution and desirability to validate the device's bearing pressure, the acupressure rod held up to 150kg, the body pressure ratio was measured lower than the body pressure ratio of the comparison item in section 0%
