The bacterial cellulose has many unique properties that are potentially and commercially beneficial. In order to make opaque product from this cellulose, filling properties by fillers should be known. This study was performed to investigate the effect of filler addition on physical properties of sheets from bacterial cellulose. The effect of filling on its optical properties was also discussed. The apparent density and internal bonding strength of bacterial cellulose sheet are decreasing with the increase of filler contents. Those adversely affect Young's modulus and physical property of the sheet, but these negative phenomena of the bacterial cellulose sheet by filler addition are not so sensitive compared to substantial decreasing of physical properties of ordinary hardwood KP. This strength decrease would be attributed to the decrease of relative bonding sites among pulp fibers. Concerned to optical properties, the bacterial cellulose sheet shows high increase of brightness and opacity according to filler loading, but no significant changes in porosity up to 17.3% loading because of fine and filamentous structure of bacterial cellulose fibers.

This research was performed to investigate the physical and mechanical properties of Chanhoji manufactured with the traditional method. This research would provide a basic information for its application in the manufacture of Korean-style house. A piece of Changhoji was manufactured to have a weight of 3.75 g. The weight was increased with the basic weight and no increase was not found on its density. The strength properties of Changhoji are superior to a copying paper, and the quality showed the first grade in Korean Standard (KS M 7301). The air resistance varied with the thickness from 2 to 19 seconds, but it showed better performance than a copying paper having 38 seconds. This research would be used for the practical use in understanding the ventilation and lightening properties of windows and doors in Korean-style house.
Human influence on soil formation has dramatically increased as the development of human civilization and industry. Increase of anthropogenic soils induced research of those soils; classification, chemical and physical characteristics and plant growth of anthropogenic soils. However there have been no reports on soil pore properties from the anthropogenic soils so far. Therefore the objectives of this study were to test computer tomography (CT) to characterize physical properties of an anthropogenic paddy field soil and to find differences between natural and anthropogenic paddy field soils. Soil samples of a natural paddy field were taken from Ansung, Gyeonggi-do (Ansung site), and samples of an anthropogenic paddy field were from Gumi in Gyeongsangnam-do (Gasan) where paddy fields were remodeled in 2011-2012. Samples were taken at three different depths and analyzed for routine physical properties and CT scans. CT scan provided 3 dimensional images to calculate pore size, length and tortuosity of soil pores. Fractal analysis was applied to quantify pore structure within soil images. The results of measured physical properties (bulk density, porosity) did not show differences across depths and sites, but hardness and water content had differences. These differences repeated within the results of pore morphology. Top soil samples from both sites had greater pore numbers and sizes than others. Fractal analyses showed that top soils had more heterogeneous pore structures than others. The bottom layer of the Gasan site showed more degradation of pore properties than ploughpan and bottom layers from the Ansung site. These results concluded that anthropogenic soils may have more degraded pore properties as depth increases. The remodeled paddy fields may need more fundamental remediation to improve physical conditions. This study suggests that pore analyses using CT can provide important information of physical conditions from anthropogenic soils.
USGA green specification is currently accepted in construction method of Korea. This study was carried out to find the factors influencing growth of turfgrass associated with soil physical properties of soil root-zone on golf green constructed with USGA method. Three putting greens in poor turfgrass and one in good turfgrass condition were selected for investigation on one golf course site at mid-South Korean peninsula. Soil hardness, moisture content, root length, and turf density were measured on-site greens, and soil physical properties and soil chemical properties also analyzed in laboratory. As a result of on-site surveys and soil physical tests in laboratory, soil physical properties were most important factors which influenced on turfgrass growth at tested greens. The results of soil particle analysis on green No. 2, in good turf condition, matched USGA sand particle recommendations. But those greens such as Nos. 1, 11 and 16, in poor putting greens, showed high soil compaction and improper soil particle distribution. Those factors created low leaf density, poor root depth, and higher moisture content compared with lower part of topsoil. Such phenomena caused inadequate turfgrass growth with soil hardening associated with poor drainage. Therefore, declines of soil physical properties associated with improper particle distribution caused a major factor influencing on turfgrass growth in golf green. Adequate test of soil particle analysis by USGA specification and proper construction method followed by adequate turf maintenance should be performed to obtain optimal turf quality on putting green.
This research was carried out to investigate the effects of density, resin and particle types on the physical and mechanical properties of the composites made from various wood particles mixed with coating paper. The experiment was designed to apply with three particles (flake, chip, and fiber) and three resin types (urea, phenol and PMDI resin). The mixed ratio of coating paper to wood particle was fixed on 50 to 50% in each board making. And also it was designed to apply for four density levels (0.6, 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9 g/$cm^3$) and four mixed formulations of coating paper to wood particle (10:90, 20:80, 30:70, and 40:60 %) to analyze clearly the effects of PMDI resin. Coating paper-wood particle composites have acceptable bending strength (MOR, MOE) though the mixed ratio of coating paper was increased, but have low internal bond strength and poor dimensional stability (WA, TS, LE). Composites with high density had higher mechanical properties but showed lower physical properties than composites with low density. In conclusion, at least up to 20% mixed ratios, coating paper-wood particle composites have acceptable physical and mechanical properties, and PMDI resin has possibility for coating paper-wood particle composite manufacture.

Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) suggests the concept of health condition which is owned of different properties by each Sasang Constitution. But SCM theory has concentrate to explaining different symptoms that distinguish health condition, not much concerned with practical methods like face features, pulse diagnosis, skin surface properties and voice features. Physical properties of practical diagnosis methods from literature finding have been researched. As a result, complexion and face moisture were described to be physical properties related to health State. In scope of pulse diagnosis, depth, rate, contour, width and pressure are related. Skin surfaces' elasticity, moisture, fraction properties were also suggested as factors of health State of Sasang Constitution. We assume that this study would contribute further studies for objectifying and quantifying diagnosis methods to evaluate health state grades of Sasang Constitution.
We have studied the physical properties of X-ray point sources in galaxy clusters using ~600 Chandra archival observations. The goal of this study is to investigate the density environmental effects on the physical properties of X-ray point sources by comparing the properties of X-ray point sources in galaxy clusters to those in typical blank fields. In this presentation, we show the nature of X-ray point sources which are expected to be related with galaxy clusters with different core properties. Using ~60 galaxy clusters observed with Chandra, we investigate the physical properties of X-ray point sources in cool-core and non-cool-core clusters. The cool-core clusters are known to have short central cooling time, and are characterized by low central entropy, systematic central temperature drops, and a brightest cluster galaxy at the X-ray peak. While the non-cool-core clusters have longer central cooling time, and are characterized by large central entropies and flat or centrally rising temperature profile. We show that how central core properties of galaxy clusters affect on the physical properties of X-ray point sources.

Cadmium sulfide is commonly used as the window material for thin film solar cells, and can be prepared by several techniques such as sputtering, spray pyrolysis, close spaced sublimation (CSS), thermal evaporation, solution growth methods, etc. In this study, CdS films were deposited by thermal evaporation, close spaced sublimation, and solution growth methods, respectively, and the effects of the methods on physical properties of polycrystalline CdS deposited on ITO/glass were investigated. Also, the effects of variously prepared CdS thin films on the physical properties of CdTe deposited on the CdS were investigated. The thickness of polycrystalline CdS films was maintained at $0.3\mu\textrm{m}$ except for the solution grown CdS when $0.2\mu\textrm{m}$ thick CdS was deposited. After the deposition, all the samples were annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ or $500^{\circ}C$ in H2 atmosphere. To investigate physical properties of the deposited and annealed CdS thin films, UV-VIS spectro-photometry, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), and cross sectional transmission electron microscopy(XTEM) were used to analyze grain size, crystal structure, preferred orientation, optical properties, etc. The annealed CdS showed the bandedge transition at 510nm and the optical transmittance high than 80% for all of the variously deposited films. XRD results showed that CdS thin films variously deposited and annealed had the same hexagonal structures, however, showed different preferred orientations. CSS grown CdS had [103] preferred orientation, thermally evaporated CdS had [002], and CdS grown by the solution growth had no preferred orientation. The largest grain size was obtained for the CSS grown CdS while the least grain size was obtained for the solution grown CdS. Some of the physical properties of CdTe deposited on the CdS thin film such as grain size at the junction and grain orientation were affected by the physical properties of CdS thin films.
To improve the physical properties of protein films, various plasticizers and cross-linking agents were used in the preparation of the films. For zein film, 3% polypropylene glycol with 3% glycerol was the best plasticizer, while 2.5% glycerol was the most suitable for soy protein isolate (SPI) film in terms of tensile strength (TS), % elongation, and water vapor permeability (WVP). Formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, glyoxal, and cinnamaldehyde as cross-linking agents of protein films were used to further improve the physical properties of the films. All aldehydes used as cross-linking agent in this study improved TS of zein and SPI films. In particular, cinnamaldehyde was the best cross-linking agent due to its safety in foods. These results suggest that appropriate use of plasticizer and cross-linking agent like cinnamaldehyde should improve the physical properties of protein films for use in food packaging.
In recent years, the line of increase in policy on tobacco production triggered a rise in the loading volume per bulk curing barn, and manufacturers boosted the output of their blowers in order to prevent dirty leaves in the process of curing. for this reason, we studied the effect of the reducing air flow in bulk curing chamber from the color fixing stage to the stem drying stage of flue curing process on physical properties of cured leaves. The control of air flow was composed of the reducing air velocity of blower by means of a voltage regulator (slidac), and condition before color fixing stage was all the same with the conventional curing method. As a result, an effectiveness of improvement in the physical properties of cured leaves were observed. The leaves cured by this method were somewhat orange in color of upper stalk position, better bodied, and less brittle compared with the leaves produced by conventional curing. However, the leaves cured by this method had a little sharpness and harshness. As to the physical properties, there was decreased in occurrence of flat leaves than that of conventional ones. On the other hand, in case of reducing air flow during the curing process, increase of price per kg reached to about 5 % compared with those of conventional curing method.
