By analysis of pyruvic acid and sugar levels in bulbs, leaf sheaths, and leaves, and with regard to phyllotaxis, it was shown that the lower portion of each plant component had the greatest pyruvic acid content, the upper portion less, and the middle portion the lowest. When bulb scales were examined, pyruvic acid content was lowest in the second bulb scale from the papery scale. Pyruvic acid level increased toward the inner portion of the bulb. Pyruvic acid levels in leaf sheaths and leaves were greater than those in the bulb during the early stages of bulb growth. However, at harvest, the pyruvic acid content of bulbs increased slightly, whereas those of leaf sheaths and leaves decreased markedly. Tissue sugar contents were similar at the beginning of bulb growth. However, bulb sugar content increased greatly as the bulb grew, and sugar contents of leaf sheaths and leaves decreased. With respect to phyllotaxis, outer older leaves had the lowest total sugar and pyruvic acid contents. Young leaves showed a tendency to have less pyruvic acid and sugar compared with mature leaves.
Objectives : This paper aims to solve difficulties surrounding the verses related to lobes of liver in the 『Yixuerumen』. Methods : First, relevant verses were selected from the 『Yixuerumen』, then compared to texts from which they had originated. The differences and contrarieties between the texts were resolved through the perspective of plant taxonomy. Results : Wangbing's 'buye(布葉)' was taken as the seed leaf of the dicotyledonous plant and corrected to 'daye(大葉)' by Li Chan. The expression 'Yixiaoye(一小葉)' was understood as describing the many main leaves that look like one big leaf, which grow in between the seed leaves. 『Nanjing』's interpretation of there being three leaves on the left, and four on the right describes the leaf pattern that grows in alternation. Conclusions : Through analysis of the verses related to lobes of liver in the 『Yixuerumen』, we can presume that Li Chan had the knowledge and understanding required in plant taxonomy such as characteristics of a dicotyledonous plant and phyllotaxis.

In this paper, it is reported that manipulator and hand-required for harvesting tomato were studied. At first, basic physical properties of tomato plant were investigated such as position of fruit, length of stems and leaves, width between ridges and son on . Secondly , basic mechanism of articulate manipulators with 5 to 7 degree of freedom were investigated by using evaluation indexes such as operational space, measure of manipulatability , posture diversity and so on. From the results, an articulate manipulator with 7 degrees of freedom was selected and the manipulator was manufactured as a trial according to the mechanism. Thirdly , physical properties about fruit and peduncle of tomato were also researched such as diameter, length , picking force and so on. Based on the properties , tomato harvesting hand with absorptive pad were also made as a trial. Finally, after the hand was attached to the manipulator, harvesting experiment was done in greenhouse . It was observed th t the robot could harvest satisfactorily , not only since the robot adapted to physical properties of tomato plant was manufactured but also since phyllotaxis of tomatoes was so methodical that all fruit clusters emerged in the same direction.

Daphne L. (Thymelaceae) comprises about 95 species distributing worldwide from N Africa, N India, SE Asia to E Asia and the coast of the Mediterranean of Europe. In Korea, five species of this genus have been described. In this study, we included four species (D. genkwa, D. pseudomezereum, D. kiusiana, D. jejudoensis) from Korea, excluding cultivated D. odora. The morphological characters through local surveys and the re-classification of the specimens collected in the Korea National Herbarium (KH) were carried out and distribution maps for each taxon were also prepared. The major characters include habit, trichomes in winter bud, leaf, and twig, phyllotaxis, inflorescence, size of calyx lobe and trichomes in the calyx tube, etc. The distribution map showed that D. genkwa is mainly distributed in the coastal area of Hwanghaenam-do, Pyeongannam-do, Jeollabuk-do and Jeollanam-do, whereas D. pseudomezereum is distributed in the limestone zone of Gangwon-do, Jeollabuk-do, and Gyeongsangbuk-do. Similarly, D. kiusiana is mostly found in Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeju-do. In addition, D. jejudoensis is known to be distributed in forests of Murueng, Andeok, and Seonheul-ri in Jeju-do, but recently, new habitat is discovered in the island forest areas of Jeollanam-do. However, some of these individuals showed the characteristics of D. kiusiana, thus before come to any conclusion detailed taxonomic review of D. jejudoensis and D. kiusiana is required.
A liguleless mutant, which showed complete loss of lamina joint region at the junction between leaf blade and leaf sheath, was isolated from a Ds insertional mutants derived from the source cultivar, Dongjin. This mutant could not affect other developmental patterns like phyllotaxis. Southern blot analysis, using GUS as a probe, revealed that the liguleless mutant contained three Ds copies transposed in the rice genome. Among the four genomic sequences flanking the Ds, one was mapped in the intergenic region (31661640 - 31661759), and the other two predicted a protein kinase domain (12098980 - 12098667) as an original insertion site within a starter line used for massive production of Ds insertional mutant lines. Another predicted and inserted in first exon of liguleless 1 protein (OsLG1) that was mapped in coding region (LOC_Os04g56170) of chromosome 4. RT-PCR revealed that the OsLG1 gene was not expressed liguleless mutants. Structure analysis of OsLG1 protein revealed that it predicted transcription factor with a highly conserved SBP domain consisting of 79 amino acids that overlapped a nuclear localization signal (NLS). RT-PCR revealed that OsLG1 is mainly expressed in vegetative organs.
Objectives : Araliae Continentalis Radix(AC) is a medicinal herb belonging to the drug efficacy group treating musculoskeletal disorders(MSD) with anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic action. However, due to morphologic and onomastic similarity, adulterants(Angelicae Pubescentis Radix: AP, Gypsophilae Oldhamianae Radix: GO, Levistici Officinalis Radix: LO) have been included or replaced the standard. Methods : Multilateral methods were carried out on the identification of AC and its adulterants. Macroscopic and microscopic characteristics were observed by using stereoscope and microscope. For the comparison of chromatogram pattern, standard compounds were analyzed simultaneously using high performance liquid chromatography. Results : 1. The macroscopic identification of original plants was determined by the phyllotaxis type, the inflorescence type, the leaf margin and the color of flowers. The macroscopic identification of herbal materials was examined by oil spots, the cambium, heteromorphic vascular bundles, and the pholem. 2. For the microscopic identification, the fact whether its xylem ray is proliferated or not was first determined. Then medicinal herbs were secondly divided by cellular inclusions, fiber bundles, the distribution of secretary canals and the shape of cambium. 3. AC and its adulterants showed different chromatographic fingerprints. AC was containing continentalic acid and kaurenoic acid. AP was containing osthole and columbianadin. LO was containing osthole and falcarindiol. None of the compounds were found in GO. Conclusions : This recent identification keys of might be helpful to discriminate the pharmacopoeia standard and its adulterants for the right usage in clinics.

This study was carried out to compare isozyme band pattern, growth characteristics and tuber yield of Dioscorea batatas to get basic information for varietal classification. It could be identify clearly by protein and esterase band pattern of leaf, petiole and stem tissue in three cultivar but with peroxidase band it was difficult to identify because of similar pattern in leaf and petiole tissue. Three cultivars has different leaf shape as Dan-ma and Jang-ma were lanceolate, Sukunea was long-heart shape in upper part of plants. In phyllotaxis, Dan-ma and Jang-ma shows alternate and opposite but Suwon 2 shows opposite in upper parts of stem. Root length shows significant difference from 9.7cm to 51cm respectively as 30cm, 51cm and 9.7cm in Dan-ma, Jang-ma and Sukunea. Tuber yield of three cultivars were 27.5M/T in Dan-ma, 22.8M/T in Jang-ma and 22.8M/T/ha in Sukunea.
Morphological characteristics and growth pattern of 10 Polygonatum collections indigenous to Korea were examined to select the promising medicinal, edible resources and horticultural crops. Plant heights of I0 collections ranged from 15 to 102cm. Stem type was ascending or erect, and node numbers per a stem was 6.2 to 23.2. Phyllotaxis type was alternate or verticillate, and leaf shape was elliptical or linear. Leave numbers per a stem was 5.2 to 63.4, and bract types were classified into bracteate and nonbracteate. Flowers bloomed from May 7 to May 30, and flowering period was 5 to 13 days. Inflorescence types were classified into racemose, corymbose, and umbellate. Flower numbers per a stem was 1.5 to 125.2, and flower length was 13.1 to 30.2㎜. Perianth shapes were classified into tubular, constrict and urceolate. Surface colors of rhizome were pale yellow, pale brown, brown, and dark brown. As a result of this experiment, P. sibiricum, P. odoratum var. pluriflorum and P. odoratum var. thunbergii were thought to be useful as the medicinal and edible resources plants. On the other hand, P. odoratum var. pluriflorum 'Variegata', and P. odoratum var. maximowiczii, P. lasianthum. P. involucratum, P. desoulavyi, P. humile, and P. inflatum were thought to be useful as horticultural plants.
