Elimination of the Red-Eye Area using Skin Color Information

  • The red-eye effect in photography occurs when using a photographic flash very close to the camera lens, in ambient low light due to in experience. Once occurred, the photographer needs to remove it with image tool that requires time consuming, skillful process. In this paper, we propose a new method to extract and remove such red-eye area automatically. Our method starts with transforming ROB space to YCbCr and HSI space and it extracts the face area by using skin color information. The target red-eye area is then extracted by applying 8-direction contour tracking algorithm and removed. The experiment shows our method's effectiveness.

  • 본 논문에서는 최종사용자 중심 전산의 영향요인에 관한 이론연구를 바탕으로 최종사용자가 원하는 사진을 쉽게 검색할 수 있고, 사진작가는 자신의 작품을 직접 데이터베이스에 저장할 수 있는 Stock Photo 시스템을 인터넷상에서 운용되도륵 구현하였다. 또한 이러한 Stock Photo 시스템은 객체지향적인 방식으로 개발되어 소프트웨어의 수정과 재사용이 용이하며 거래와 지불에 관한 부분을 추가하여 전자거래의 한 형태로도 이용할 수 있도록 설계였다.

GIS 웹 맵 서비스 구현을 위한 스마트 폰에서의 정보은닉 기법 (Information Hiding Technique in Smart Phone for the Implementation of GIS Web-Map Service)

  • 최근, 모바일 임베디드 기술의 발달로 인하여 일반 사용자가 멀티미디어콘텐츠를 손쉽게 제작하고 이를 GIS(geographic information system) 웹 맵과 연동하여 다양하게 응용 하는 매쉬업 서비스가 웹 2.0 인터넷환경에서 활발히 서비스되고 있다. 그러나 매쉬업 서비스에서 다뤄지는 콘텐츠는 웹 맵과 연동되어 GPS 좌표 정보와 같은 사용자의 공간상 이동 경로를 포함하는 새로운 형태의 콘텐츠인데 반해 해당 콘텐츠에 대한 지적 재산 및 사생활 보호를 위한 방법이 아직까지 존재하지 않는다. 본 논문에서는 GIS 웹 맵 매쉬업 서비스에서 사용자 사생활 보호와 불법 촬영자 추적을 위하여 모바일 카메라 폰을 통해 촬영된 이미지 내에 위치 정보와 사용자 정보를 은닉하는 기법을 제안하고 이를 스마트 폰에 구현하였다. 위치정보에 대하여 좌표 값의 오차 범위를 최소화하기 위해 비트 가중치를 고려하여 색차신호에 은닉하였으며, 부정 촬영자를 추적하기 위해 장비 고유번호, 전화번호, 촬영날짜 정보를 휘도신호에 대해 주파수도메인 상에 은닉하였다. 실험 결과 위치정보 삽입에서 다양한 영상처리에 대해서 신뢰할 수 있는 오차범위를 가짐을 확인할 수 있었고, 포맷변환 시에도 위치정보를 정확히 추출하였다. 휘도신호의 정보은닉 실험 결과 공격에 의해 훼손된 영상에 대하여 유사도 패턴 매칭을 통하여 삽입한 정보를 모두 검출 하였다.

Fast Extraction of Objects of Interest from Images with Low Depth of Field

  • In this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised video object extraction algorithm for individual images or image sequences with low depth of field (DOF). Low DOF is a popular photographic technique which enables the representation of the photographer's intention by giving a clear focus only on an object of interest (OOI). We first describe a fast and efficient scheme for extracting OOIs from individual low-DOF images and then extend it to deal with image sequences with low DOF in the next part. The basic algorithm unfolds into three modules. In the first module, a higher-order statistics map, which represents the spatial distribution of the high-frequency components, is obtained from an input low-DOF image. The second module locates the block-based OOI for further processing. Using the block-based OOI, the final OOI is obtained with pixel-level accuracy. We also present an algorithm to extend the extraction scheme to image sequences with low DOF. The proposed system does not require any user assistance to determine the initial OOI. This is possible due to the use of low-DOF images. The experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm can serve as an effective tool for applications, such as 2D to 3D and photo-realistic video scene generation.

Photographic Color Reproduction Based on Color Variation Characteristics of Digital Camera

  • In this paper, a new technique for color reproduction based on color variation characteristics of digital camera under a dim light condition is proposed. Generally, photographers should adjust a camera exposure properly for obtaining an image with real color tone of subjects. Thus, in case of taking a picture under a dim light condition, the exposure time of a camera has to be relatively longer than the one under a bright light condition. Although images with real color tone of the subject are obtained, the images may get blurred due to the shaky hands of photographer holding the camera. In order to avoid the blur effect, an input image is captured from a camera set as a short exposure time under a dim light condition. Then we propose a method to reproduce color tone of the dim input image. To this end, color variation characteristics which represent color variations of a digital camera are first extracted by analyzing the Macbeth color checker images taken under various exposure values. Then, a color reproduction is performed by an estimation based on the color variation characteristics. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method has achieved better performance of color reproduction, compared with existing methods.

사진이미지를 향한 응시 (Gazing on Photographic Image)

  • 사진을 본다는 것은 프레임에 담긴 이미지를 지각하는 과정이다. 사진에 대하여 우리는 감각질료조직을 통해서만 작가의 의도에 접근할 수 있는 것이다. 우리가 사진을 바라볼 때 구체적으로 어떠한 방식으로 이미지를 보는지 검증해보기 위해서 로베르 두아노의 1948년 사진 '비뚫어진 관심'을 대상으로 실험을 실시하였다. 페미니즘 이론가인 매리 앤 도은이 이 사진에 대해 말한 것을 기초로 가설을 수립하고 분석하였다. 시선추적장치인 Tobii를 이용해서 사진을 바라보는 피험자들의 동공의 움직임을 기록함으로써 특정영역에 얼마나 오래 시선이 머무는지 측정하였다. 실험결과 사람들이 사진이미지를 바라볼 때 일정한 흐름을 통해 순차적으로 그것을 본다는 사실이 확인되었다. 동시에 프레임의 부분적 영역에 대하여 피험자들의 응시 강도가 달랐으며 피험자 집단마다에서도 편차가 있었다.

Gareth Pugh의 패션 필름에 나타난 미적 특성 (Aesthetic Characteristics Reflected in Gareth Pugh's Fashion Films)

  • This study deals with the aesthetic characteristics in Gareth Pugh's fashion film. As fashion films are becoming a newly emerging communication tool in fashion, the aim of this study will be to build a database on these films. For the specific method in this work, literature reviews were performed along with the empirical study of seven pieces of fashion film. The results of the study showed that Gareth Pugh released the fashion films from 2008 to 2012, and he collaborated with SHOW Studio member and photographer Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben. Common themes in their films were fear, fantasy, dynamics, and going off-limits, and these can be summed up in the following ways. First, a sense of fear was expressed via black colors, bizarre mechanical sounds, decalcomania shape in abstract images, and transformed physical body images. Second, an image of fantasy was presented with diverse expression techniques including colorful light presentations and abstract image setups from repeatedly changed image reproduction. Third, dynamic feature was denoted with a combination of fast development of images and quick reproduced layouts, as well as quick beat sounds, and big and powerful action movements. Fourth, characteristic of going off-limits was reflected, by showing the collections with a communication tool called fashion film instead of existing collection concept.

패션 비주얼 메이커 닉 나이트(Nick Knight)의 작품특성 (Characteristics of Nick Knight's Works as a Fashion Visual Maker)

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the works of Nick Knight, the most influential fashion visual maker, to find out the characteristics of his works. For the research method, literature reviews were done by studying his book, viewing the articles on his official web site, reading journal review of his works and his interview articles. For the work analysis, fashion brands 'Christian Dior', 'Alexander McQueen', 'Martin Margiela', 'Hussein Chalayan' and 'Gareth Pugh' that have worked with Nick Knight were selected. The characteristics of his fashion works were derived from overall analysis of fashion visual works. The characteristics of Nick Knight's works are as follows. First is the 'innovation of image expression'. He used digital infra in advance and introduced digital images at the initial stage. He used fashion films as the means of communication and tried new image expressions in 3D. Second is 'breaking down the boundaries of creating process'. He worked with various field experts to make high quality works. He invited the public to participate in his creative process through the internet. Third is 'breaking down the categories of aesthetic expression'. He provided a wide variety of aesthetic standard and refused aesthetic stereotype. He broke the boundaries between fashion and art with a unique technique and high values.

패션 미디어에 나타난 상호작용 사례 연구: 쇼스튜디오(Showstudio)의 패션프로젝트를 중심으로 (Interactive Case Study on Fashion Media: Focused on Showstudio's Fashion Projects)

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the interactivity which appeared on the fashion media that focus on Showstudio's fashion projects. Showstudio is a famous fashion site that was founded by the famous photographer, Nick Knight, which has displayed interactive projects with fashion designers and artists. The methods of this study are undertaken by theoretical studies and project analysis. The 38 projects under the 'interactive' category are being chosen among archive data and the project explanations, photos and videos provided from the site are studied. Interactivity of fashion projects in Showstudio is considered by main factors such as two-way communication, participation, user control, and responsiveness. Two-way communication appears as transactional communication in the creation process and feedbacks from contents of users. The characteristic of participation appears as participation in the creation process and the practical use of contents. User control appears as control of contents, user interface and streaming media systems. The characteristic of responsiveness appears as real time and synesthesia responsiveness between the user and contents. Showstudio show free communication through digital information transmit system and also indicate the opportunity of innovative interactions among users, media, and contents.

  • SPA(Speleologic-Photo-Artist)란 동굴학적인 소양과 능력을 갖춘 사진예술가, 즉 동굴사진 예술가를 말한다. SPA가 되기 위해서는 동굴학 분야, 사진학 분야, 순수예술분야의 종합이 필요하다. 이 경우 각분야는 주전공을 무엇에서부터 출발하느냐에 따라 각각의 난이도가 달라질 것이다. SPA의 경우 동굴학에서 출발하여 사진분야, 순수예술분야를 추가로 학습하는 것이 기타 타분야에서 접근하는 것보다 용이하다고 생각한다. 이렇게 기본적인 소양을 습득한 뒤에는 현실적이고 제도권안에 있는 사진작가가 되는 길을 모색하여 동굴사진예술가가 될 수 있다고 본다. 이러한 자격을 가진 사람이 교육에 종사할 경우 좀더 깊이 있는 내용을 피교육자에게 전달할 수 있으며 동굴학의 저변을 확대하는데 매우 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있으리라고 생각한다.
