  • A multichannel optical detector system employing a self-scanning linear photodiode array has been developed. The photodiode array detector system is designed for various applications which require fast, multichannel detection of transient signals. The detector system consists of a controller which runs on an IBM personal computer and a detector head connected to the controller through a DB-15 cable. The entire scanning of 1024 detector elements is achieved in 20 ms. By using an on-board 16-bit counter/timer, the operational mode of the photodiode array detector is fully programmable by software. The design considerations and the performance of the photodiode array detector system is presented.

  • A photodiode array multichannel detector system for capillary electrophoresis was developed. The photodiode array detector for capillary electrophoresis (CE-PDA) has 1024 photodetectors and can analyze sample by measuring UV/VIS absorption spectrum in 275~675 nm wavelength range. The CE-PDA instrument can get a spectrum in 30 ms during sample separation and can be programmed by a PC to control various experimental conditions required for sample analysis. The performance of the multichannel CE-PDA instrument was tested using L-ascorbic acid and alizarin yellow GG mixture. The reproducibility test of the CE-PDA system showed 5.6% RSD.

  • This study was carried out to determine and confirm of Dapsone in vegetables and fruits which were illegally used for freshness. We have developed a simple, arpid and precise method that Dapsone can be analyzed in the cabbages, grapes and strawberry by HPLC with photodiode array detector. Experimental subjects were included 15 cases of cabbages, 10 cases of grapes and 10 cases of strawberries purchased in Kangwon, Chungchong province and the Seoul area. The results were obtained that Dapsone in the experimental subject was separated completely within 10 min. Detection limit of Dapsone was 0.5 ng. Aberage recoveries from cabbages, grapes and strawberries were 93.3$\pm$0.37%, 91.4$\pm$0.65% respectively. 4 cases of cabbages were detected Dapsone and the amount was below the 0.3 ppm. There was not detected Dapsone in any grape and strawberry samples.

  • The intensity of x-ray or gamma-ray is attenuated according to density and thickness of the transmitted medium. In this study, by using this principle, on-line real-time radiometric system was developed using a 128 channels linear array of solid state detectors to measure wall thickness of insulated piping system. This system uses a Ir-192 as a gamma ray source and detector is composed of BGO scintillator and photodiode. Ir-192 gamma ray source and linear detector array mounted on a computer controlled robotic crawler. The Ir-192 gamma ray source is located on one side of the piping components and the detector array on the other side. The individual detectors of the detector array measure the intensity of the gamma rays after passing through the walls and the insulation of the piping component under measurement. The output of the detector array is amplified by amplifier and transmitted to the computer. This system collects and analyses the data from the detector array in real-time. The maximum measurable length of pipe is 120cm/mm. in the case of 1mm scanning interval.

  • Objectives : To develop and validate High-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array methods for simultaneous determination of two constituents in Oryeong-san(ORS). Methods : Reverse-phase chromatography using a Gemini C18 column operating at $40^{\circ}C$, and photodiode array(PDA) detection at 280 nm, were used for quantification of the two marker components of ORS. The mobile phase using a gradient flow consisted of two solvent systems. Solvent A was $H_2O$ and solvent B was acetonitrile. Results : Calibration curves were acquired with correlation coefficient ($r^2$)>0.9999, and the relative standard deviation(RSD) values(%) for intra- and inter-day precision were not exceed 1.0%. The recovery rate of each compound was in the range of 93.01-104.16%, with an RSD less than 2.0%. The contents of two compounds in ORS were 1.10-3.72 mg/g. Conclusions : The established HPLC method will be helpful to improve quality control of ORS.

  • In this paper, we introduce a differential detector that automatically aligns itself to the signal beam in order to prevent the voltage variation that may result from minute misalignment of the light source. In this system, a photodiode-array recognizes the central point of the signal beam, and drives motors that correspond to the x and y axes. The photodiode-array aligns itself to the central point of the signal beam, and eliminates the optical noise effect with differential detectioin method. It is very useful in wireless optical interconnections.

  • A simple, rapid, efficient method is for extraction of 13 synthetic water-soluble food colours (Tartrazine, Amarnth, Indigo carmine, New coccine, Sunset yellow FCF, Allura red AC, Eosine, Fast Green FCF, Brilliant Blue FCF, Erythrosine, Acid red, phloxine, Rose Bengal) by polyamide resin and for their quantitative by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Colours (coal-tar dyes) were extracted with polyamide resin and then determinated by HPLC. The HPLC conditions using a reverse phase partition type column $(Nova-pak\;C_{18})$, photodiode array (PDA) detector and 1% Ammonium acetate / 60% acetonitrile in water as eluent, were acceptable for various kinds of colorants. By the use of the proposed method, a survey of coal-tar dyes was carried out on 20 samples and that were detected $4.76{\sim}133.47\;ppm$.

  • A UV camera is being used in various application regions such as industry, medical science, military, and environment monitoring. A ROIC(ReadOut IC) is developed and can read the responses from UV photodiode sensors which are made with III-V nitride semiconductors of GaN series haying high resolution and high efficiency. To design FPA(Focal Plane Array) UV $8{\times}8$ ROIC, the photodiode type sensor devices are modeled as the capacitor type ones. The ROIC reads out signals from the detector at)d outputs sequentially pixel signals after amplifying and noise filtering of them. The ROIC is fabricated using the $0.5{\mu}m$ 2Poly 3Metal N-well CMOS process. And then, it and photodiode array are hybrid bonded by gold stud bumping process using ACP(Anisotropic Conductive Paste). After the packaging, UV images appearing on PC verified the operations of the ROIC.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a method to simultaneously quantify vitamins A and E in infant formula. To determine the vitamin A and E content, vitamin A and four different vitamin E isomers (${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$-, ${\gamma}$-, and ${\delta}$-tocopherol) were separated by high performance liquid chromatography with a photodiode array detector using a Develosil RPAQUEOUS RP-$C_{30}$ column ($4.6{\times}250$ mm, 5 ${\mu}M$). The vitamin A and E contents in the certified reference material determined using this method were within the certified range of standard values. The limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantitation (LOQs) for vitamin A were 0.02 and 0.06 ${\mu}g/L$, respectively. LODs and LOQs for the vitamin E isomers ranged from 0.20 to 0.55 and from 0.67 to 1.81 ${\mu}g/L$, respectively. Linear analyses indicated that the square of the correlation coefficient for the vitamin A and E isomers was 0.9997-0.9999. The recovery of vitamins ranged from 96.69 to 97.79%. The results demonstrate that this novel method could be used to reliably analyze vitamin A and E content in infant formula.
