Industrial waste which highly loaded by halogenide phenols was photooxidized by laboratory-scale photooxidation of these organic impurities in the presence of aerotropic and titaniumdioxide as photocatalyst. The disapperance of organic compounds was determined as a function of the irradiation time. Some contaminants such as 2-chlorophenol, 2-bromphenol, 3-bromphenol, 4-bromphenol, 2,4-dibromophenol and 2,6-dibromophenol were photodegraded separately to obtain information on the reaction rates, reactivities, and reaction mechanisms of the photooxidation, and on the stoichiometric correlation between organic reactant and inorganic products concentration in the course of the photocatalytic photoreaction.

The production of oxygen and hydrogen from solar water splitting has been considered to be an ultimate solution for energy and environmental issues, and over the past few years, nano-sized semiconducting metal oxides alone and with graphene have been shown to have great promise for use in photocatalytic water splitting. It is challenging to find ideal materials for photoelectrochemical water splitting, and these have limited commercial applicability due to critical factors, including their physico-chemical properties, the rate of charge-carrier recombination and limited light absorption. This review article discusses these main features, and recent research progress and major factors affect the performance of the water splitting reaction. The mechanism behind these interactions in transition metal oxides and graphene based nano-structured semiconductors upon illumination has been discussed in detail, and such characteristics are relevant to the design of materials with a superior photocatalytic response towards UV and visible light.
To elucidate the decay of the rose bengal (RB) sensitized and thiourea (TU) supersensitized photocurrent, spectroscopic analyses of the dye solution were performed. Absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic analyses of sensitizing solution before and after irradiation enabled to conform the new mechanism of the photocatalytic dimerization between RB and TU. And it was also found that the geometrical arrangement of the transition dipole moment is oblique and the angle between the dipoles is $124^{\circ}$ in the dimer of dye molecules.
The dihydroxy naphthalene/$TiO_2$ complexes with different substitution patterns were prepared by surface modification. X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the prepared composite materials. The results indicated that the surface modification did not influence the crystallization of $TiO_2$. The visible-light absorbances of prepared dihydroxy naphthalene/$TiO_2$ complexes could be assigned to the ligand-to-metal charge transfer. The obtained catalyst exhibited outstanding photocatalytic activity and stability under visible light. A linear relationship existed between the percentages of hydroxynaphthalenes coordinated on $TiO_2$ surface and $H_2$ production ability. The substitution pattern of dihydroxy naphthalene and $CH_3OH$ content could also influence the photocatalytic performance remarkably. The photocatalytic $H_2$ production ability was further improved after loading with ultra low concentration of Pt, 0.02 wt %. The possible mechanism was proposed.
In this work, a carbon-doped carbon nitride photocatalyst is successfully synthesized through a simple centrifugal spinning method after heat treatment. The morphology and properties of the prepared photo catalyst are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis spectrophotometer (UV-vis), and specific surface area. The results show that the band gap of the prepared sample, g-CN-10 is 2.1 eV, is significantly lower than that of pure carbon nitride, 2.7 eV. As the amount of cotton candy increased, the absorption capacity of the prepared catalyst for visible light is significantly enhanced. In addition, the degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B (RhB) by sample g-CN-10 is 98.8 % over 2 h, which is twice that value of pure carbon nitride. The enhancement of photocatalytic ability is attributed to the increase of specific surface area after the carbon doping modifies carbon nitride. A possible photocatalytic degradation mechanism of carbon-doped carbon nitride is also suggested.
The cuprous oxide cubes with the special porous surface constructed by nano-prisms have been successfully fabricated by a solvothermal method. The template-free method is simple and facile without any surfactant. The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) pattern suggests that the as-prepared product is the pure primitive cubic $Cu_2O$. The effects of the experimental parameters, such as the reaction temperature, reaction time and the concentration of sodium acetate anhydrous, on the morphologies of the products were investigated in detail by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Based on the time-dependent experiments, the possible formation mechanism was proposed. Using photocatalytic degrading reactive dyes as the model reaction and xenon lamp to simulate sunlight, the $Cu_2O$ cubes with the porous surface might possess higher photocatalytic activity than those of the commercial $Cu_2O$ powder in the visible-light region, indicating the excellent photocatalytic performance.
$SiO_2$-coated $TiO_2$ composite materials with enhanced photocatalytic activity under UV light was prepared by a simple catalytic hydrolysis method. XRD, TEM, UV-vis spectroscopy, Photoluminescence, FT-IR and XP spectra were used to characterize the prepared samples. The obvious shell-core structure was shown for obtained $SiO_2$@$TiO_2$ sample. The average thickness of the $SiO_2$ coating layer was 2-3 nm. The interaction between $SiO_2$ and $TiO_2$ restrained the recombination of excited electrons and holes. The photocatalytic activities were tested in the degradation of an aqueous solution of a reactive dyestuff, methylene blue, under UV light. The photocatalytic activity of $SiO_2$@$TiO_2$ was much higher than that of P25 and mechanical mixing sample $SiO_2/TiO_2$. The possible mechanism for the photocatalysis was proposed.
$AgI/AgCl/H_2WO_4$ double heterojunctions photocatalyst was prepared via deposition-precipitation followed by ion exchange method. The structure, crystallinity, morphology, chemical content and other physical-chemical properties of the samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectra (EDX), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and photoluminescence (PL). The photocatalytic activity of the $AgI/AgCl/H_2WO_4$ was evaluated by degrading methyl orange (MO) under visible light irradiation (${\lambda}$ > 400 nm). The double heterojunctions photocatalyst displayed more efficient photocatalytic activity than pure AgI, AgCl, $H_2WO_4$ and AgCl/$H_2WO_4$. Based on the reactive species and energy band structure, the enhanced photocatalytic activity mechanism of $AgI/AgCl/H_2WO_4$ was discussed in detail. The improved photocatalytic performance of $AgI/AgCl/H_2WO_4$ double heterojunctions could be ascribed to the enhanced interfacial charge transfer and the inhibited recombination of electron-hole pairs, which was in close relation with the $AgI/AgCl/H_2WO_4$ heterojunctions formed between AgI, AgCl and $H_2WO_4$.
Bi metal deposited on $Bi_2MoO_6$ composite photocatalysts have been successfully synthesized via a simple reduction method at room temperature with using $NaBH_4$ as the reducing agent. The photocatalytic activity of the composite was evaluated by degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) and bisphenol A (BPA) solution under visible light. The rate constant of $Bi/Bi_2MoO_6$ composite to RhB is 10.8 times that of $Bi_2MoO_6$, and the degradation rate constant of BPA is 6.9 times of that of $Bi_2MoO_6$. Nitrogen absorption-desorption isotherm proved that the increase of specific surface area is one of the reasons for the improvement of photocatalytic degradation activity of $Bi/Bi_2MoO_6$ composites. The higher charge transfer efficiency of $Bi/Bi_2MoO_6$ is found through the characterization of the photocurrent and impedance, which are attributed to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect produced by the introduction of the metal Bi monomer in the composite. Free radical capture experiments proved that cavitation is the main active species. Based on the above conclusions, a possible mechanism of photocatalytic degradation is proposed.
A facile one-pot wet chemical process to prepare pure anatase TiO2 hollow structures using ammonium hexafluorotitanate as a precursor is developed. By defining the formic acid ratio, we fabricate TiO2 hollow structures containing fluorine on the surface. The TiO2 hollow sphere is composed of an anatase phase containing fluorine by various analytical techniques. A possible formation mechanism for the obtained hollow samples by self-transformation and Ostwald ripening is proposed. The TiO2 hollow structures containing fluorine exhibits 1.2 - 2.7 times higher performance than their counterparts in photocatalytic activity. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the TiO2 hollow structures is attributed to the combined effects of high crystallinity, specific surface area (62 ㎡g-1), and the advantage of surface fluorine ions (at 8%) having strong electron-withdrawing ability of the surface ≡ Ti-F groups reduces the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes.
