광촉매 반응에 의한 물 속 시안이온의 처리 (Photocatalytic Treatment of Cyanide in Water)

  • 여러 종류의 $TiO_2$를 사용하여 물 속에 녹아있는 시안이온의 광촉매 분해반응에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 상용 $TiO_2$와 제조한 $TiO_2$의 시안이온 분해활성을 비교해 본 결과, anatase 결정구조를 가진, Aldrich사에서 구입한 상용 $TiO_2$의 활성이 가장 나빴던 것에 비하여 $Ti(OC_3H_7)_4$를 전구체로 사용하여 제조한 $TiO_2$가 가장 우수한 활성을 보였는데, 이는 본 연구에서 사용한 또다른 사용촉매인 Degussa사 $TiO_2$(P25)의 활성을 능가하는 것이었다. 이들 촉매의 반응성 차이는 $TiO_2$표면에 존재하는 산성 수산기와 염기성 수산기 양의 상대적인 비와 같은 촉매의 표면특성에 주로 기인하였다. 가장 우수한 활성을 보인 촉매의 제조 과정에서, 소성대신 환원처리를 하였을 때 더욱 향상된 촉매활성을 보였다.

Preparation of Different Fe Containing TiO2 Photocatalysts and Comparison of Their Photocatalytic Activity

  • In this paper, Fe-$TiO_2$ and Fe-fullerene/$TiO_2$ composite photocatalysts were prepared with titanium (IV) n-butoxide (TNB) by a sol-gel method. $TiO_2$, Fe-$TiO_2$ and Fe-fullerene/$TiO_2$ were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscope (TEM), specific surface area (BET), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by the photocatalytic oxidation of methylene blue (MB) solution. XRD patterns of the composites showed that the photocatalyst composite contained a typical single and clear anatase phase. The surface properties shown by SEM presented a characterization of the texture on Fe-fullerene/$TiO_2$ composites and showed a homogenous composition in the particles for the titanium sources used. The EDX spectra for the elemental identification showed the presence of O, C and Ti elements. Moreover, peaks of the Fe element were observed in the Fe-$TiO_2$ and Fe-fullerene/$TiO_2$ composites. The degradation of MB solution by UV-light irradiation in the presence of photocatalyst compounds was investigated in complete darkness. The degradation of MB concentration in aqueous solution occurred via three kinds of physical phenomena: quantum efficiency of the fullerene; organo-metallic reaction of the Fe compound; and decomposition of $TiO_2$. The degradation rate of the methylene blue solution increased when using Fe-fullerene/$TiO_2$ compounds.

유동층 화학기상증착(FB-CVD)으로 제조한 광촉매 박막증착 비드의 조업변수에 따른 반응성 (Photocatalytic Activities of Titania Deposited Beads by FB-CVD as Operation Variables)

  • 유동층 화학기상 증착법으로 모재의 종류, 유동층 반응기 내부의 온도, 압력 그리고 산소유량 등의 여러 가지 조업변수들을 변화시키며 광촉매가 박막증착된 비드를 제조하였고 제조된 광촉매코팅비드의 광반응성 측정을 통해 최적조업조건을 결정하였다. 제조한 광촉매에 대하여 FE-SEM, XRD 그리고 XPS 분석을 수행하였고, 광반응성은 아세트알데히드의 분해능력을 측정하여 분석하였다. 광촉매가 박막증착된 비드의 FE-SEM 분석 결과 글라스 비드 위의 티타니아는 비교적 매끄럽게 증착되었고, 실리카 위의 티타니아는 입자의 형태로 증착되었으며 알루미나 위의 티타니아는 결정상을 이루며 증착됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 광반응성 측정 결과 알루미나를 모재로 사용하여 온도는 $600^{\circ}C$, 압력은 5 torr에서 제조하였을 때 아세트알데히드 광분해 반응에서 가장 높은 광반응성을 보였고, 산소 유량은 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

TiO2 Combining Spherical Activated Carbon Photocatalysts and Their Physicochemical and Photocatalytic Activity

  • In this study, we used coal-based activated carbons and charcoal as startingmaterials, phenolic resin (PR) as a binder, and TOS as a titanium source to prepare $TiO_2$ combining spherical shaped activated carbon photocatalysts. The textural properties of the activated carbon photocatalysts (SACP) were characterized by specific surface area (BET), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), iodine adsorption, strength intensity, and pressure drop. The photocatalytic activities of the SACPs were characterized by degradation of the organic dyes Methylene Blue (MB), Methylene Orange (MO), and Rhodamine B (Rh. B) and a chemical oxygen demand (COD) experiment. The surface properties are shown by SEM. The XRD patterns of the composites showed that the SACP composite contained a typical single, clear anatase phase. The EDX spectro for the elemental indentification showed the presence of C and O with Ti peaks. According to the results, the spherical activated carbon photocatalysts sample of AOP prepared with activated carbon formed the best spherical shape, a high BET surface area, iodine adsorption capability and strength value, and the lowest pressure drop, and the photocatalytic activity was better than samples prepared with charcoal. We compared the degradation effects among three kinds of dyes. MB solution degraded with the SACP is better than any other dye solutions.

전기증착법으로 제조된 WO3 박막의 광촉매 특성 (Photocatalytic Properties of WO3 Thin Films Prepared by Electrodeposition Method)

  • Tungsten trioxide ($WO_3$) is a promising candidate as a photocatalyst because of its outstanding electrical and optical properties. In this study, we prepare $WO_3$ thin films by electrodeposition and characterize the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue using these films. Depending on the voltage conditions (static and pulse), compact and porous $WO_3$ films are fabricated on a transparent ITO/glass substrate. The morphology and crystal structure of electrodeposited $WO_3$ thin films are investigated by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. An application of static voltage during electrodeposition yields a compact layer of $WO_3$, whereas a highly porous morphology with nanoflakes is produced by a pulse voltage process. Compared to the compact film, the porous $WO_3$ thin film shows better photocatalytic activities. Furthermore, a much higher reaction rate of degradation of methylene blue can be achieved after post-annealing of $WO_3$ thin films.

Synthesis of Expanded Graphite-Titanium Oxide Composite and its Photocatalytic Performance

  • In this study, an expanded graphite-titanium oxide composite is developed from expanded graphite (EG) and titanium n-butoxide (TNB). EG is synthesized by chemical intercalation of natural graphite (NG) and rapid expansion at high temperature. TNB is used as the titanium source. The performances of the prepared EG-$TiO_2$ composite are characterized by BET surface area measurements, scan electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The catalytic activities of the EG-$TiO_2$ composite are investigated by analysis of the degradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution under irradiation of UV light. Compared with the pristine $TiO_2$ and activity carbon-$TiO_2$ (AC-$TiO_2$) composite, the EG-$TiO_2$ composite shows very high efficiency against MB solution, and the EG could improve the photocatalytic effect of $TiO_2$ in the MB degradation reaction under the irradiation of UV light.

Photocatalytic Activity of EG-TiO2 Composite for Various Dye Solutions Under UV Light and Visible Light

To compare the photocatalytic activities of the EG-TiO$_2$ composite, three kinds of dye solutions, methylene blue (MB), methylene orange (MO) and rhodamine B (RhB), and two kinds of light source, UV light and visible light (VL), are used. Comparing the results, it can be clearly seen that the degradation of all of the dye solutions under irradiation by UV light is much better than that under irradiation by visible light, and the decomposition of MB solution was better than that of both of MO and RhB solution.

Photoreduction of Methyl Orange Catalyzed by Nile Red-Adsorbed $TiO_2$/Y Zeolites using Visible Light

  • Photoreduction of Methyl Orange Catalyzed by Nile Red-Adsorbed TiO$_2$/Y zeolites. Nile Red was successfully adsorbed on TiO$_2$/Y zeolites and the absorption profile is very broad with maxima, ca. 630 nm. The peak is largely red-shifted compared to that observed in hydrocarbon solvents. Furthermore, a broad and largely Stokes shifted emission band as observed around 660 nm. The largely Stokes shifted emission band should be originated from the excited state structural changes. In order to understand the photocatalytic activities of Nile Red-adsorbed TiO$_2$/Y zeolite, the photoreduction of Methyl Orange(5.0$\times$10$^{-5}$ M) was studied using visible light beyond 320 nm. Methyl Orange was effectively reduced by Nile Red-adsorbed TiO$_2$/Y zeolite, indicating the photocatalytic activity of Nile Red-adsorbed TiO$_2$ zeolites was enhanced by about eight times higher than that of TiO$_2$/Y zeolite.

The Comparison of Property and Visible Light Activity between Bulk and Surface Doped N-TiO2 Prepared by Sol-gel and N2-plasma Treatment

  • A modified sol-gel method and $N_2$-plasma treatment were used to prepare bulk and surface doped N-$TiO_2$, respectively. XRD, TEM, UV-vis spectroscopy, $N_2$ adsorption, Elemental Analyzer, Photoluminescence, and XP spectra were used to characterize the prepared $TiO_2$ samples. The N doping did not change the phase composition and particle sizes of $TiO_2$ samples, but increased the visible light absorption. The photocatalytic activities were tested in the degradation of an aqueous solution of a reactive dyestuff, methylene blue, under visible light. The photocatalytic activity of surface doped N-$TiO_2$ prepared by $N_2$-plasma was much higher than that of bulk doped N-$TiO_2$ prepared by sol-gel method. The possible mechanism for the photocatalysis was proposed.
