건축자재의 산화티타늄 코팅을 통한 휘발성 유기화합물 분해 (Destruction of Volatile Organic Compounds Using Photocatalyst-Coated Construction Materials)

  • In order to reduce roadside and indoor air pollution for volatile organic compounds VOC), it may be necessary to apply photocatalyst-coated construction materials. This study evaluated the technical feasibility of the application of $TiO_2$ photocatalysis for the removal of VOC present in roadside or indoor air. The photocatalytic removal of five target VOC was investigated: benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and o,m,p-xylenes. Variables tested for the current study included ultraviolet(UV) light intensity coating materials, relative humidity (RH), and input concentrations. Prior to performing the parameter tests, adsorption of VOC onto the current experiment was surveyed, and no adsorption was observed. Stronger UV intensity provided higher photocatalytic destruction(PCD) efficiency of the target compounds. For higher humidity, higher PCD efficiency was observed. The PCD efficiency depended on coating material. Contrary to certain previous findings, lower PCD efficiencies were observed for the experimental condition of higher input concentrations. The current findings suggested that the four parameters tested in the present study should be considered for the application of photocatalyst-coated construction materials in cleaning VOC of roadside or indoor air.

Synthesis and Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2/BiVO4 Layered Films under Visible Light Irradiation

  • $TiO_2/BiVO_4$ layered films were prepared by sol-gel and spin coating methods. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Uv-vis spectroscopy were used to investigate the crystal structure, morphology and ultraviolet-visible absorption of the $TiO_2/BiVO_4$ films. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared films was inspected according to the degradation of methylene blue. The results show that the prepared films present a net chain structure; the absorption band edge had obvious red shift. The degradation of the methylene blue solution was about 80% after 300 mins using $TiO_2/BiVO_4$ layered films under visible light, which was stronger than when using only pure $TiO_2$ film and $BiVO_4$ film.

  • This study investigated the production of hydrogen over Ga (1.0, 2.0, and 5.0 mol%)-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts prepared by a solvothermal method. The absorption band was slightly blue-shifted upon the incorporation of the gallium ions, but the intensity of the photoluminescence (PL) curves of Ga-incorporated $TiO_2$s was distinguishably smaller, with the smallest case being the 2.0 mol% Ga-$TiO_2$, which was related to the recombination between the excited electrons and holes. $H_2$ evolution from photo splitting of water over Ga-incorporated $TiO_2$ in the liquid system was enhanced, compared to that over pure $TiO_2$; particularly, the production of 5.6 mL of $H_2$ gas after 8 h when 1.5 g of the 2.0 mol% Ga-incorporated $TiO_2$ was used.

  • As the air pollution progresses, the pollution degree of the indoor air quality is increased, and when the pollution degree of the indoor air quality is increased, it causes respiratory diseases and skin diseases. In addition, volatile organic compounds are released from the materials used for architectural interior decoration, and volatile organic compounds are the main cause of polluting indoor air quality. In order to improve indoor air quality, we tried to secure indoor air quality pollution by using photocatalyst which has the function of decomposing harmful substances. photocatalyst is a material that promotes chemical reaction by absorbing light. The photocatalyst used in the experiment was TiO2, In this study, an adsorption type hardener for reducing volatile organic compounds was prepared by photocatalytic reaction. the formaldehyde and CO2 concentrations of the cured products were analyzed according to the TiO2 content.

Fabrication and Photocatalytic Properties of Visible Light Responsive Cuprous Oxide Cubes

  • The cuprous oxide cubes with the special porous surface constructed by nano-prisms have been successfully fabricated by a solvothermal method. The template-free method is simple and facile without any surfactant. The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) pattern suggests that the as-prepared product is the pure primitive cubic $Cu_2O$. The effects of the experimental parameters, such as the reaction temperature, reaction time and the concentration of sodium acetate anhydrous, on the morphologies of the products were investigated in detail by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Based on the time-dependent experiments, the possible formation mechanism was proposed. Using photocatalytic degrading reactive dyes as the model reaction and xenon lamp to simulate sunlight, the $Cu_2O$ cubes with the porous surface might possess higher photocatalytic activity than those of the commercial $Cu_2O$ powder in the visible-light region, indicating the excellent photocatalytic performance.

Application of UV Photocatalytic Degradation of Benzene

  • Benzene pollution is becoming increasingly serious, and the treatment technology of benzene has attracted much attention. In this paper, a self-made photocatalytic reactor was used to explore the removal rate of benzene under the ultraviolet light with the wavelength of 253.7nm. The results showed that the degradation rate of benzene decreased from 64.29% to 16.26% when the concentration increased from 43mg/㎥ to 256mg/㎥ under the condition of 28W UV light intensity and 50s residence time. Under the condition of 28W UV light intensity and 103mg/㎥ concentration, the residence time increased from 16.5s to 50s, and the benzene removal rate increased from 13.23% to 42.72%.Under the condition of benzene concentration 103mg/㎥ and residence time of 50s, the removal rate of benzene increased from 29.34% to 52.58% in the process of UV light intensity rising from 28W to 48W.It is concluded that decreasing the concentration and increasing the residence time of gas were beneficial to the removal of benzene and increasing the light intensity can improve the removal rate of benzene.

Low Temperature Synthesis of Transparent, Vertically Aligned Anatase TiO2 Nanowire Arrays: Application to Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

  • We present a low temperature (${\approx}70^{\circ}C$) method to prepare anatase, vertically aligned feather-like $TiO_2$ (VAFT) nanowire arrays $via$ reactive pulsed DC magnetron sputtering. The synthesis method is general, offering a promising strategy for preparing crystalline nanowire metal oxide films for applications including gas sensing, photocatalysis, and 3rd generation photovoltaics. As an example application, anatase nanowire films are grown on fluorine doped tin oxide coated glass substrates and used as the photoanode in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). AM1.5G power conversion efficiencies for the solar cells made of 1 ${\mu}m$ thick VAFT have reached 0.42%, which compares favorably to solar cells made of the same thickness P25 $TiO_2$ (0.35%).

Synthesis of Bi2WO6 Nanometer Sheet Shaped and Approach to the Photocatalysis

  • For use as a photocatalyst, bismuth tungsten oxide, $Bi_2WO_6$, was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal treatment at pH = 11 and heating at 200 ${^{\circ}C}$ for 24h, and samples were subsequently thermal treated at 400, 600, and 800 ${^{\circ}C}$ to increase crystallinity. TEM results revealed that the initial untreated particles were sheet‐shaped, grain size was below 80 nm, and it increased with treated temperatures. These $Bi_2WO_6$ samples absorbed at around 400 nm in the visible light range and the intensity of absorption was particularly strongest in samples thermal treated at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$. Their photoluminescence abilities, related to the recombination between the excited electrons and holes, were overall small for other general photocatalysts such as TiO2, and the smallest in the case of thermal treatment at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$, as reversible result of UV‐visible absorbance. Methyl orange of 5.0 ppm aqueous solution was almost completely removed after 2 h when treated over the $Bi_2WO_6$ thermal treated at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$.

Experimental Evidence of the Mobility of Hydroperoxyl/Superoxide Anion Radicals from the Illuminated TiO2 Interface into the Aqueous Phase

  • The understanding of behaviors of hydroperoxyl/superoxide anion radicals (${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$) generated from a photoirradiated $TiO_2$ surface is essential to improve the efficiency of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic reactions by decreasing the recombination of photoinduced electron-hole ($e^--h^+$) pairs. In contrast with previous studies, we found that ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$ generated on the surface of illuminated $TiO_2$ particles are mobile. ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$ formed by the photocatalysis of $TiO_2$ particles immobilized onto the inner surface of a coil-quartz tube were forced under a continuous flow through a knotted tubing reactor (KTR) and into the aqueous phase completely separated from the $TiO_2$ particles, and were measured by a chemiluminescence (CL) technique using 2-methyl-6-(p-methoxyphenyl)-3,7-dihydroimidazo[ 1,2-a]pyrazin-3-one (MCLA) as the reagent. The initial concentration of the ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$ stream entering the KTR was determined by its half-life (98 s) at pH 5.8. We suggests that the efficiency of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic reactions may be further improved by utilizing the mobility of ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$.

전이금속 도핑이 ZnO 나노분말의 특성 및 메틸렌블루 광촉매 분해 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of transition metal-doping on the properties of ZnO nanoparticles and the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue)

  • Transition metals such as V, Fe, and Ni were used to synthesize doped zinc oxide nanoparticles from mixed liquid precursors by using the flame spray pyrolysis (FSP). The effects of dopants on the powder properties such as morphology, specific surface area, crystal structure, and light adsorption were analyzed by TEM, BET, XRD, and UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectrum (DRS), respectively. The results showed that hexagonal wurtzite structured ZnO:M (M = V, Fe, Ni) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by the FSP. The transition metal-doping resulted in the decrease in its particle size and crystallite size. The UV-vis absorption spectra of ZnO:M nanoparticles were also red-shifted. ZnO:V showed the highest MB degradation of 99.4% under the UV irradiation after 3 hrs.
