Behavioral characteristics of phosphorus in sediments according to the forms of phosphorus

  • This study investigates the behavioral characteristics and forms of phosphorus in the sediment according to the oxygen condition (aerobic/anaerobic). In the behavioral characteristics analysis, Al-P and Fe-P concentrations were the highest among the forms of inorganic phosphorus, and therefore had the strongest impact on sorption and release corresponding to environmental condition changes. In the experimental investigation of the inorganic forms of phosphorus in the sediment according to the oxygen condition, we determined that the forms of inorganic phosphorus did not greatly affect the sorption or release reaction because the distribution ratios of the inorganic forms remained constant corresponding to changes of dissolved oxygen (DO) conditions. In contrast, the forms of organic phosphorus in the sediments affected both sorption and release. Furthermore, labile-P and moderately labile-P forms were the major mechanisms of sorption in sediment. Moderately labile-P was the greatest contributor to phosphorus release action in sediment. As environmental changes are important for the behavioral characteristics of phosphorus in sediment, the forms of phosphorus should be considered to have a greater effect, especially in the organic phosphorus case. Therefore, based on the present study results, sediment evaluation aimed at controlling internal pollutants in reservoirs should include an examination of the forms of phosphorus present, as well as the release characteristics of environmental changes, which are influential factors of phosphorus control. Further research in this field is required.

  • The relative focus about phosphorus (P) which causes eutrophication characterized by increased growth of undesirable algae has increased in recent years. Phosphorus forms in soil and water include both organic and inorganic forms. There are also a large number of soil P determination methods that have been designed to account for various types of P and mechanisms controlling the chemistry of P in soil, water, and residual materials for environmentally relevant forms of P. However, phosphorus forms in soil, water, and residual materials are also difficult to standardize with any reasonable consensus, due to the number of different disciplines involved. Hence, it is essential to accurately define how P can be measured in soil, water, or residual material samples to avoid potential misinterpretations or inappropriate recommendations in determining amount and types of P. Therefore, we reviewed the testing methods which have appeared in the scientific literature to provide an overview of the soil test P most commonly used.

퇴적물에서의 인의 용출특성과 존재형태에 관한 연구 (A study on release characteristics and forms of phosphorus in sediments)

  • This study was carried out to investigate release characteristics of phosphorus with DO, pH and temperature, to suppose its behaviour with time using mathematical model, and to under-stand its forms with pH. Released SRP was in inversely proportional to DO and it did few release in initial aerobic conditions, but it did actively with decreasing DO concentration. Also, its release was increased with increasing pH and temperature. It was found that relation between time and released SRP concentration was zero order reaction. As compared with k values in various pH and temp., they was $k_{15}>k_{25}$ in pH 6 but was $k_{15} in pH 7 and 8. Considering forms of phosphorus with pH, Resdi.-P & NAI-P increased but Ads.-P & Apt.-P decreased with increasing pH.

THE EFFECT OF PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF HAY DIETS ON PHOSPHORUS METABOLISM IN SHEEP

  • The experiments were carried out to study the effect of physical forms of hay diet on phosphorus metabolism by offering sheep roughage diets containing a low phosphorus content. The sheep were fed coarse hay, short hay or finely ground pelleted hay. The physical forms of hat diet had little effect on the pathway of phosphorus excretion. In all groups, the most of phosphorus was excreted in feces and urinary phosphorus excretion was negligible. Duodenal fluid flow, rumen fluid outflow and estimated salivary flow appeared to be relatively high in sheep fed the coarse hay diet as compared to those in sheep fed the finely ground diet. The amount of phosphorus flow to the duodenum tended to be high in the coarse diet group as compared to those in other two groups. On the other hand, phosphorus concentrations in the duodenal fluid and the rumen fluid were lower in sheep fed the coarse hay diet than those in sheep fed the ground hay. Net intestinal phosphorus absorption tended to be higher in sheep fed the coarse hay than that in sheep fed the ground hay or pelleted hay. However, a negative phosphorus balance was observed in the coarse hay diet group although a positive phosphorus balance was found in other two groups. It was considered that salivary phosphorus secretion was greater than the amount of salivary phosphorus reabsorbed from the intestine, resulting in the negative of phosphorus balance in sheep fed the coarse hay.

경작지(耕作地) 전토양(田土壤)의 인산특성(燐酸特性)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) I. 축적인산(蓄積燐酸)의 형태별(形態別) 조성(造成)과 유효인산(有效燐酸) 함량(含量)과의 관계(關係) (Studies on the Characteristics of Phosphorus in the Upland Soil I. Composition of Accumulated Phosphorus Forms and Available Phosphorus)

  • 인산(燐酸) 축적지(畜積地) 토양(土壤) 149점(點)(시건설원예지(施設園藝地) 60점(點), 마늘, 양파, 고추 재배지(栽培地) 89점) 에 대한 무기태인산(無機態燐酸)의 형태별(形態別) 조성(造成)과 유효인산(有效燐酸) 함량(含量)과의 관계(關係)를 검토(檢討)한 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 1. 총(總) 인산(燐酸)에 대한 무기태인산(無機態燐酸)의 분포비(分布比)는 68.9%(Sa-p 2.7, Al-p 26.4, Fe-p 27.6, Ca-p 12.2), 유기태인산(有機態燐酸)은 6.7%, 유효인산(有效燐酸)은 26.0%이었따. 2. 유효인산함량(有效燐酸含量)과 무기태인산(無機態燐酸) 함량(含量)과의 상관관계(相關關係)에서 Al-p와는 0.1%에서 유의성(有意性)있는 상관관계(相關關係)를 나타내었으며, Sa-p, Ca-p 순으로 유의성(有意性)을 보였고 Fe-p와는 일정한 상관관계(相關關係)를 나타내지 않았다. 3. 유효인산함량(有效燐酸含量)과 무기태인산(無機態燐酸) 함량(含量)과의 다중회귀분석(多重回歸分析) 결과(結果) $Av.P=81.694+0.858Sa-p^{***}+0.648Al-p^{***}+0.091Ca-p^{**}(R=0.826^{***})$의 관계식(關係式)을 얻었으며, 각 성분(成分)의 기여도(奇與度)는 Sa-p 26.1, Al-p 65.2, Ca-p 8.7%이었다. 4. 유효인산함량(有效燐酸含量)과 수용성인산(水溶性燐酸), 수용성인산(水溶性燐酸)과 $0.01M-CaCl_2-p$와는 고도(高度)의 유의성(有意性) 있는 상관관계(相關關係)를 나타내었고, $0.01M-CaCl_2$ 용액(溶液)에 의한 30분(分) 추출법(抽出法)은 토양용액(土壤溶液) 인산(燐酸)을 신속(迅速) 간편(簡便)하게 추정(推定)할 수 있는 방법(方法)으로 생각되었다.

실험실 조건에서 부유식물과 침수식물의 영양염류 흡수능 및 특성 평가 (Evaluation of the Nutrient Uptakes of Floating and Submerged Plants under Experimental Conditions)

  • The performance and characteristics of nutrient removal in wetlands influenced by plant type. We tested a floating plant, Eichhornia crassipes, and a submerged plant, Ceratophyllum demersum, under the same environmental conditions to understand the differences in nutrient uptake by these different plant forms. The total nitrogen and phosphorus in the water decreased in the following order: Water Only < Water + Soil < Floating Plants ${\approx}$ Submerged Plants and Water Only < Water+Soil < Floating Plants < Submerged Plants. Nitrogen and phosphorous concentrations increased in both plants; however, the phosphorous concentration was greater in C. demersum than E. crassipes. The submerged plant exhibited higher phosphorus uptake per unit biomass than the floating plant, but nitrogen uptake did not differ significantly. These results suggest that the presence of soil influences nitrogen and phosphorus removal from water, and that wetland plants play an important role in the assimilation and precipitation of phosphorus. Understanding the differences in contaminant removal performance and characteristics of various plant forms can help in the selection of diverse plants for constructed wetlands to improve water quality and provide ecosystem services such as wildlife habitat and landscape enhancement.

Underappreciated Resource Phosphorus : Implications in Agronomy

  • Phosphorus (P) which is required by all living plants and animals is an important input for economic crop and livestock production systems. Phosphorus containing compounds are essential for photosynthesis in plants, for energy transformations and for the activity of some hormones in both plants and animals. Loss of soil P to water can occur in particulate forms of P with eroded surface soil and in soluble forms in runoff, soil interflow, and deep leaching. The excessive losses of P from agricultural systems can degrade water quality of surface waters, resulting in accelerating eutrophication. Thus, P is often the limiting element and its control is of prime importance in reducing the accelerated eutrophication of surface waters. However, reserves of phosphate begin to run out, the impacts are likely be immense in terms of rising food prices, growing food insecurity. This paper reviews underappreciated resource as a key component of fertilizers and one of controversial pollutant in terms agronomy and environment.

  • Among the major nutrients, phosphorus is by far the least mobile and available to plants in most soil conditions. A large portion of soluble inorganic phosphate applied to soil in the form of phosphate fertilizers is immobilized rapidly and becomes unavailable to plants. To improve the plant growth and yield and to minimize P loss from soils, the ability of a few soil microorganisms converting insoluble forms into soluble forms for phosphorus is an important trait in several plant growth-promoting microorganisms belonging to the genera Bacillus and Pseudomonas and the fungi belonging to the genera Penicillium and Aspergillus in managing soil phosphorus. The principal mechanism of solubilization of mineral phosphate by phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) is the release of low molecular weight organic acids such as formic, acetic, propionic, lactic, glycolic, fumaric, and succinic acids and acidic phosphatases like phytase synthesized by soil microorganisms in soil. Hydroxyl and carboxyl groups from the organic acids can chelate the cations bound to phosphate, thereby converting it into soluble forms.

시화호 퇴적물에서 인의 지화학적 특성 (The geochemical properties of phosphorus from sediments of Lake Shihwa)

  • 시화호 퇴적물에서 인의 지화학적 특성을 연구하였다 퇴적인의 가장 큰 형태는 detrital apatite P와 Al-bound P이며 무산소환경이기 때문에 Fe-bound f는 그 비중이 낮았다. 퇴적총인과 유기물의 상관성으로 볼 때, 퇴적물로 제거되는 인의 거동은 유기물에 의해 조절되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 유기물 유입의 영향을 직접적으로 받는 정점 Cl에서 정점 C2에 비해 퇴적인의 함량, 유기물과의 상관성, 황산염환원에 의한 공극수내 인산염의 함량 및 플럭스가 높게 나타났다. 결국 시화호 퇴적물에서 인의 함량, 형태 및 공간에 따른 차이는 유기물에 의해 조절되는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

  • 우리나라 주요토양(主要土壤)에 있어서 인산(燐酸)이 어떠한 형태(形態)로 분포(分布)하고 있으며, 그 토양인산(土壤燐酸)의 특성(特性)이 어떠한지를 밝히고 나아가 인산질자원(燐酸質資源)을 합리적(合理的)으로 사용(使用)하기 위한 기본적(基本的)인 정보(情報)를 얻고저 본시험(本試驗)을 실시(實施)했든바, 그 중(中)에서 무기태인산(無機態燐酸)에 관(關)한 연구결과(硏究結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 일반적(一般的)으로 대부분(大部分)의 인산(燐酸)은 무기태(無機態)로 존재(存在)하며, 경작지(耕作地)는 미경지(未耕地)에 비(比)해 무기태(無機態)로 존재(存在)하는 인산비율(燐酸比率)이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 유기인산(有機燐酸)의 비율(比率)은 미경지(未耕地)보다 경지(耕地), 전(田)보다 답(畓)에서 더 높았다. C/P율(率)은 경지(耕地)보다 미경지(未耕地)에서 매우 크며, 그 비율(比率)과 인산지력(燐酸地力)과의 관계(關係)를 추측(推測)되었다. 2. 무기태인산(無機態燐酸)의 일반적(一般的)인 분포(分布)는 Fe-P>Al-P>Apatire-P>Ca-P의 순(順)이었다. 미경지(未耕地)에서는 모암(母岩)의 영향(影響)이 잘 반영(反影)돼 있으며, 이 경향(傾向)은 전(田)으로 이용(利用)되고 있는 토양(土壤)에 까지 다소(多少) 나타났으나, 답(畓)에서는 거의 똑같은 분포상태(分布狀態)가 나타났다. 3. 일반적(一般的)으로는 미경지(未耕地) 및 전토양(田土壤)에서 Lancaster법(法)으로 침출(浸出)된 인산(燐酸)이, 답(畓)에서는 Olsen법(法)에 의(依)한 침출인산(浸出燐酸)이 가장 높았다. Ca-P, Al-P는 Truog법(法), Lancoster법(法), Olsen법(法)에 의(依)한 유효인산(有効燐酸)과, Fe-P는 Olsen법(法)에 의(依)한 유효인산(有効燐酸)과 깊은 상관관계(相關關係)를 보였다. 4. 인산흡수계수(燐酸吸收係數)와 무기태인산(無機態燐酸) 및 유효인산(有効燐酸) 사이에 깊은 상관관계(相關關係)가 인정(認定)되었다.
