Phosphorous acid is known to effectively control various Oomycetes diseases. The phosphoric acid moves upward and downward through the xylem and phloem in plants. The sustainable forms of the slow releasing chemical in rhizosphere would be ideal to be up-taken by plants. Therefore, we developed a new system for phosphorous acid formulation using a carrier coated with polysaccharides. When the product was applied in rhizosphere, the adequate amount of phosphorous acid was consistently released up to 4 weeks in rhizosphere soils. While soil drenching with phosphorous acid at 1,000 ${\mu}g/ml$ and metalaxyl at 150 ${\mu}g/ml$ were not effective to control pepper Phytophthora blight for 4 weeks, direct application of our formulation product around basal stem of pepper plants resulted in excellent disease control effect against Phytophthora blight over 4 weeks. The application of 4 g of our product per plant was optimum to control the disease, and 8 g product/plant did not cause phytotoxicity. Based on the results, we conclude that the applications of the formulation product once or twice during cropping season can control Phytophthora diseases on various crops.
Control effects of phosphorous acid were investigated on Phytophthora blight of red pepper plants in greenhouse and field. In vitro test, the mycelial growth of Phytophthora capsici was inhibited by the phosphorous acid more than 97% at 1,000 ${\mu}g$ and 10,000 ${\mu}g$ a.i./mL in the liquid and solid culture, respectively. At concentration of 10 ${\mu}g$ a.i./mL of phosphorous acid, in the liquid culture the mycelial growth of P. capsici was inhibited 46.2%, however inhibited only 4.9% on the soild culture. Zoosporangial formation was also inhibited 89.1% by phosphorous acid at 100 ${\mu}g$ a.i./mL. Phosphorous acid affected more zoosporangial formation of P. capsici than its mycelial growth. At the concentrations of 10,000, 1,000 and 100 ${\mu}g$ a.i./mL of phosphorous acid, germination of zoosporangia was inhibited 100, 84.3 and 44.2%, respectively. Mycelial growth and zoosporangial formation of P. capsici were little affected at the concentration of 10 ${\mu}g$ a.i./mL of phosphorous acid. Cermination of zoosporangia was also little affected at this concentration, however growth of the germ tubes was inhibited and the abnormal mycelial growth was observed. Phosphorous acid suppressed the incidence of Phytophthora blight of red pepper plants up to $77.0{\sim}62.0%$, in greenhouse. Phosphorous acid suppressed the incidence of Phytophthora blight of red pepper plants up to 54.0% at the conventional culture in field. Treatments of phosphorous acid increased up to 113% in height, 135% in number of fruit, and 129% in weight of fruit.
Control effects of phosphorous acid were investigated on three diseases. For Phytophthora blight of red pepper, protective and curative effects of phosphorous acid at the concentration of $1,408{\mu}g$ a. i./mL were 91.0% and 80.0%, respectively. In case of late blight of tomato, caused by Phytophthora infestans, protective and curative effects were 63.4% and 13.0% at the same concentration, respectively. However, the protective and curative effects of phosphorous acid increased by decreasing inoculum density of Phytophthora infestans. The protective effects of phosphorous acid on control of Phytophthora blight of red pepper was persisted for 4 days with high control efficacy (94.0%). The protective and curative effects of phosphorous acid ($1,408{\mu}g$ a. i./mL) on cucumber downy mildew were 82.0% and 62.0% respectively. The foliar application of phosphorous acid also promoted shoot growth and fresh weight of red pepper.
Grain vinegar and citric acid were added while stewing beef leg bone for 12 hrs, and the extraction of calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, amino acid and collagen out of beef leg bone was measured. As the concentration of grain vinegar and citric acid (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0%) increased, the amount of calcium, phosphorous and amino acid dissolved out of the leg bone increased compared with the control. Citric acid extracted more calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, amino acid than grain vinegar at the same concentration. But, grain vinegar extracted more collagen than citric acid at 1% concentration. In sensory evaluation, the leg bone stew boiled for 12 hrs with 2% grain vinegar and control were favored greatly compared with the one with citric acid.

In order to obtain the maximum flame retardancy with the minimal deterioration of physical properties of PU flame-retardant coatings, chlorine and phosphorous functional groups were introduced into the pre-polymer of modified polyesters. In the first step, the tetramethylene bis(orthophosphate) (TBOP) and neohexanediol dichloroacetate (DCA-adduct) intermediates were synthesized. In the second step, 1,4-butanediol and adipic acid monomers were polymerized with the two kind of intermediates to obtain copolymer. The modified polyesters containing chlorine and phosphorous (ATBA-10C, -20C, and -30C) were synthesized by adjusting the contents of chlorine compound (dichloroacetic acid, 10, 20, 30 wt%) with fixed the content of phosphorous compound (2 wt%). The PU flame-retardant coatings (TTBAH -10C, -20C, and -30C) were prepared using the synthesized ATBAs and HDI-trimer as curing agent at room temperature. The physical properties of PU flame-retardant coatings with chlorine and phosphorous were inferior to those with phosphorous only and the properties were getting worse with increasing chlorine content. Flame retardancy was tested with three methods. With the vertical method, Complete combustion time of ATBAHs were $259^{\sim}347$ seconds, which means that the prepared coatings are good flame-retardant. With the $45^{\circ}$ Meckel burner method, char lengths of the three prepared coatings were less than 2.9 cm, which indicates that the prepared coatings are 1st grade flame retardancy. With the limiting oxygen index (LOI) method, the LOI values of the three prepared coatings were in the range of $30^{\sim}35%$, which proves good flame retardancy of the prepared coatings. From the results of flame retardancy tests of the specimens that contain the same amounts of flame retarding compounds, it was found that the coatings containing both phosphorous and chlorine show higher flame retardancy than the coatings containing phosphorous alone. This indicates that some synergy effect of flame retardancy exists between phosphorous and chlorine.
We introduced a novel sustainable slow-releasing agrochemical formulation, a biopolymer bound to silica, for controlling plant diseases. The formulation was obtained through the following process. Curdlan, sodium silicate ($Na_2SiO_3$) and isopropyl alcohol were dissolved in DDW (Deionized-distilled water). The resultant solution was then irradiated using a $^{60}Co$${\gamma}$-irradiator (150 TBq of capacity; ACEL, Canada) at KAERI. The resultant solution was treated with phosphorous acid ($H_3PO_3$). Finally, we obtained a novel biopolymer-silica microsized formulation containing phosphorous acid ($H_3PO_3$) from the solution. The morphology of the complex was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). SEM and TEM images revealed that the curdlan-silica formulation has a particle size ranging from 1 to $3{\mu}m$ with high stability. We also detected that $H_3PO_3$ was distributed within the formulation through energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. $H_3PO_3$ was sustain-released from the formulation in water. Based on our results, it seems effectively that one or two applications of the formulation during a cropping season will assist in controlling various plant diseases.

Phosphorous contaminated in the effluent from sewage treatment plants can cause the eutrophication in surface water bodies. In this study, a powder of titanium oxysulfate-sulfuric acid made of ion-exchange materials was immobilized in an alginate gel and this material was examined to evaluate its phosphorous removal efficiency. Equilibrium and kinetic studies were carried out to quantify the adsorption capacity and time dependent removal rate of phosphorous. Adsorption isotherms and kinetic parameters were obtained for the entrapped titanium beads with three different methods. Equilibrium data were analyzed using Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and found to be well fitted to the model. The maximum adsorption capacity for phosphorous by the titanium bead synthesized with the solution method was 92.26 mg/g. Kinetic data followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Due to the low production cost and high adsorption capacity, the titanium bead synthesized by the solution method has a potential to be utilized for the cost-effective removal of phosphorous from wastewater.
In this work, flame retardant acrylic emulsion pressure sensitive adhesives were newly polymerized combining phosphorous flame retardant monomer and acrylic monomer like butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate. The process of polymerization showed 100% of conversion at solid content of 65%, and viscosity of acrylic emulsion was increased up to 5500 cps when phosphorous flame retardant monomer was added into acrylic emulsion. The structure of flame retardant acrylic emulsion was identified using FT-IR and thermal properties like glass transition temperature (Tg) were checked by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Acrylic emulsion without phosphorous flame retardant monomer had Tg of -44.1℃ and peel strength of 2,100gf/inch, however, flame retardant acrylic emulsion showed maximum Tg (-31.4℃) and peel strength of 200gf/inch when 15 part of phosphorous flame retardant monomer was added. Flammability test was also conducted to confirm the application of flame retardant acrylic emulsion as the flame retardant addtive.

The properties of the electroless nickel deposit mainly depends on the pH of the bath, the plating temperature, and the molar ratio of nickel to hypophosphite but they are also affected by its formulation and concentration of complexing and buffering agents. According to changeing the concentration of triethanolamine and boric acid, phosphorous contents, microsturcture, crystalline, hardness and wear resistance of deposits obtained from ammoniacal alkaline bath were investigated by EPMA, differential thermal analyser, X-ray diffractometer and wear tester. The results are as follows; (1) Increasing concentration of triethanolamine in the bath, the deposits is slightly inclined to increase its phosphorous content(3.7% P). (2) In the as-plated state, the deposits are not crystallized state but they are thermally unstable phase, and they are crystallized with precipitating $Ni_3P$ at 400$^{\circ}C$. (3) The deposit containing 2.3% P has higher hardness value in the as plated and heat treated state at below 300$^{\circ}C$ than those of 3.7% phosphorous deposit (1090Hk). But in the case of heat treating at 400$^{\circ}C$, the former has lower hardness value (1000Hk) than the latter and has remarkably Ni(III) orientation by heat treatment. (4) The 3.7% phosphorous deposit heat treated at 400$^{\circ}C$ has better wear resistance than hard chromium plating.
