First, the concept of slow fashion was defined. Second, this study reviewed the concepts of desire found in Oriental philosophies and applied them to slow fashion consumption. This process identified the fundamental desire that motivates consumers of slow fashion. Lastly, the psychological aspects slow fashion consumers were examined through a comparison of fundamental desire and external reasons given by interviewees in regards to personal motivation to purchase slow fashion products. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 10 unmarried women 25 to 37 years old with experience in buying slow fashion products. Exploratory data were classified into external reasons and fundamental reasons to derive the concept of slow fashion. First, slow fashion is defined as sustainable fashion that considers humans and nature. It also seeks to produce morally good products that transcend time and space. Second, we identified the following external reasons: social responsibility, pursuit of healthy products, and pursuit of beauty. Finally, we extracted four factors that reflected fundamental desire: Recognition Desire, Ostentation Desire, Sexual Appeal Desire, and Power Desire. Altruism was emphasized by respondents who expressed social responsibility among external reasons and the desire for recognition among fundamental reasons. However, this goodwill also originated from human desire due to the emotional healing they receive from helping others. Interviewees sought psychological benefits such as self-satisfaction and spiritual growth through slow fashion that implied an Association of slow fashion consumption with human desire. Slow fashion consumption was influenced by moral convictions as well as various desires; in addition, external reasons for slow fashion consumption could be explained by desire.

  • In this study, the indicators for evaluating the level of green growth in transportation are proposed. The authors reviewed the existing philosophies such as sustainable development and eco-efficiency and explained the differences between the philosophies and green growth. The planning hierarchy and indicator framework are proposed and the idea of indicators is also introduced. In order to decide the weighting value for objectives and targets, a questionnaire survey for transportation experts was conducted. The survey results show that low-carbon/environmentally-friendly development is the most important objective. In addition, the results reveal that transportation experts do not fully understand the concept of green growth and cannot differentiate the concept of green growth from that of sustainable development and eco-efficiency.

  • This treatise studies on how ideology and value of Chinese minority race undergo change according to social, political transition that the Chinese minority race has experienced for a long time and I also have tried to elucidate how these kinds of their experiences have been effected upon their own life, even it is part of my basic subjects for my study. Hence I would give weigh to focus on contemplating process of the past and the present rather than predictive discussion of how their pursuing value will be transformed. For my ebullient study, I'm willing to make Yi-Zu's moral culture become axis of my treatise, and capitalize on not only how Han-Zu's ideological philosopies have been disseminated, but also how acculturation have been taken place in Yi-Zu's moral culture system. Yi-Zu has the longest history and the greatest their own population, even the largest residence of various Chinese minority races. And Yun-Nan is the historical place where not only various Chinese minority races have lived, but also acculturation between Chinese majority, Han-Zu and them have been begotten. Above all, I would delve into traditional religion to understand Yi-Zu's moral culture as was already mentioned that it is my axis of treatise. Furthermore, I deliberated on how Taoism have been infiltrated Yi-Zu's moral culture, also how Han-Zu's ideological philosophies have been permeated Yi-Zu's, and what is more how to help themselves still remained in Yi-Zu's. Through my such these efforts, I analyze the aspect of embracing of Han-Zu's moral culture by Yi-Zu's and some facts of vicissitudes about it.

  • This paper reviews the relationships between diverse ecological design strategies and competing conceptions of ecological approach in place making. It focuses conceptual trends of what we categorize a building "green" and outlines a social constructive perspective on the development of sustainable architecture. This study classifies seven logics of ecological design-eco-technical, eco-aesthetical, eco-social, eco-medical, eco-renewable, eco-cultural, eco-central - which have their roots in competing philosophies of environmentalism. In my analysis of the logics concerning sustainable architecture, the adapted and incorporated technology from high-tech to low-tech levels is a key issue. These points lead us to propose a way that each logic configures the technological approaches and alternative visions of sustainable places. This paper discusses the implications of the competent nature of plural ecological design perspectives for architectural education, practice, and researches.

  • The vehicle oriented block box system based on the u-healthcare and the human-free guard functions is developed in this paper. We also suggested the design philosophies, ideas, and analyzed the performance of the suggested system. The developed vehicle oriented black box system has some characteristics such as; 1) detects the dangerous situation by ultrasonic sensor in advance, and stores the situation information of the neighborhood of the vehicle to the imbedded SD memory card if the dangerous situation may be occurred in the parked vehicle; 2) detects the present location and speed information of the vehicle by GPS receiver and 3-axes acceleration sensor, and stores the information to the SD memory card periodically if the vehicle is running; 3) measures the dioxide carbon in the vehicle inside using $CO_2$ sensor, and forces the ventilation motor of the vehicle to operate and maintains the driver's health if the measured level is more than standard health requirements; 4) provides the stored vehicle's operating information to the driver by GUI (Graphical User Interface) based touch LCD monitor.

  • An interest in modern space is expanded to search for the relationship among human, space and environment, not limited the fixed or typical material place. For grasping and analyzing the characteristics and aims of modern space, this study is focusing on 'Dionysian outlook on nature' among the Nietzsche's philosophies. Nietzsche's 'Dionysian outlook on nature' based on his 'philosophy of creation and positiveness' has great implications for modern space because it focuses on not only circulation of existence and creation but also dynamic vitality the mostly. The reason is that modern space is required by the tendency changing the goal and aesthetic value by planner or user, not fixed and unchangeable any longer. The concept of space in modern construction is developed by forming various paradigms. Especially, various examples based on Nietzsche's Dionysian outlook on nature, philosophy of creation and positiveness, will be analyzed and possibility of new spatial concept's extension will be researched.

  • Objective: Ayurveda is a complementary and alternative medical (CAM) system that has been practiced primarily in the Indian sub·continent for 5,000 years. As need for CAM increases, interest in Ayurveda is drawing more attention in Western countries. But in Korea, understanding of Ayurveda is superficial due to a lack of information and research. In this article, we investigated not only the philosophical features of Indian Traditional Medicine, but its relationship with Korean Oriental Medicine. Methods: From April to August 2004, we sought mutual cooperation through observation at research institutes (Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha, National Institute of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Science, Pharmacopoeial Laboratory for Indian Medicine) and performed on-the-spot surveys & discussions. Results & Conclusions: We conclude that the philosophies of Indian Traditional Medicine could extend those of Korean Oriental Medicine. Adopting some promising Indian Traditional Medicine techniques such as PanchaKarma and KsharaSutra treatments which have been shown to have efficacy and safety could contribute to the development of Korean Oriental Medicine's internal & external medical treatment. Further studies of Indian Traditional Medicine are needed.

  • The 21 century has entered a stage of innovation with current globalization. The technical development of science has changed more rapidly than any other era and through this change, design will control the world. For this reason, I consider that researching Philippe Starck's - one of most active designers in the world- philosophies and traits of his work can be the key to understanding 21st century's design characters and main trends. Furthermore this research will also help to predict future design. Philippe Starck has diverse traits but this study would like to focus on his trait of Surrealism. First I have arranged all his design backgrounds including periodic circumstance which influenced his works. Secondly I researched and analyzed how his design philosophy has expressed his works. Phillppe Starck defines Surrealism as an expression of a dream and unconsciousness showing an indoor view and he expresses his characteristic wit and humor by presenting completely different and exceptional space from what people have usually seen.

  • This research focused on the hysteretic energy performance of 12 steel moment-resisting frames, which were intentionally designed by three types of design philosophies, strength control design, strength and drift control design, and strong-column and weak-beam control design. The energy performances of three designs were discussed In view of strength increase effect, stiffness increase effect, and strong-column and weak-beam effects. The mean hysteretic energy of the 12 basic systems were statically processed and compared to that of single-degree-of-freedom systems. Hysteretic energy was not always increased with an increase of strength and stiffness in the steel moment-resisting frames. Hysteretic energy between strong-column and weak-beam design and drift control design with the same stiffness was not sensitive each other for these types of mid-rises of steel moment-resisting frames.
