  • The effects of propanil, MCPA; 245-T and silvex on growth pattern were tested on Taichung Native 1. Caloro, PI 245717 and Bluebonnet 50 by root administration and foliar spray at 10 levels of concentration. Silvex in foliar spray increased plant height of Taichung and when applied via root decreased root langth of Bluebonnet and pi245717 at all levels. All phenoxy herbicides over 4 ppm - decreased plant height in all varieties tested when applied to root. General morphorogical response - were also observed.

  • Three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationships (3D-QSARs) for the herbicidal activities against pre-emergence barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli) by new 2-(4-(6-chloro-2-benzoxazolyloxy)phenoxy)-N-phenylpropion amide derivatives were studied quantitatively using comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) methodologies. The best CoMFA model (AI-2) and CoMSIA model (AII-4) were derived from an atom based fit alignment and a combination of CoMFA fields. The herbicidal activities from CoMFA and CoMSIA contour maps showed that the activity will be able to be increased according to the substituents variation on the N-phenyl ring.

  • Fluorinated polyimides with high thermal stability, low optical absorption loss in the optical communication wavelengths of 1.3 and 1.55㎛, and low birefringence and water absorption have been investigated for optical waveguide applications. These polyimides were prepared from 2,2-bis(3,4-dicar-boxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) with 1,4-bis-(4-amino-2-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy) tetrafluorobenzene (ATPT) , 1,4-bis-(4-amino-2-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy) benzene (ATPB) , and 1,3-bis-(4-amino-2-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy ) 4,6-dichlorobenzene (ATPD ), respectively. The polyimides obtained had glass transition temperatures that ranged from 260 to 280$\^{C}$, and low water absorption less than 0.4% and low optical loss (> 0.2 dB/cm) at 1.3 and 1.55㎛. Birefringency values of polymer films ranged from 0.0041 to 0.0066.

  • To search the new potent herbicidal agents by receptor-based approach, the interactions between receptor and substrate molecules from molecular docking to acetyl-CoA carboxylase(PDB code: 3K8X) of 2-(4-(6-chloro-2-benzoxazolyl)oxy)phenoxy-N-phenylpropionamide analogues (1-38) as substrate molecules were performed and discussed quantitatively. The most of the substrate molecules were formated 2 H-bonds between carbonyl oxygen atom of the substrate molecules and the amino acid residues (Ala1627 and Ile1735) in binding site of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase). But, the substrate molecules such as $R_l$=Acetyl substituents (6 & P9) were formated 3 H-bonds between H-bond acceptors in the substrate molecules and the H-bond donors in three amino acid residues including the rest residue (Gly 1998). Therefore, the inhibitory activity factors of the substrate molecules against ACCase are due to the H-bonding characters that will be able to apply to the optimization of herbicidal agents.

  • The present study was undertaken to characterize the biodegradation of phenoxy herbicides, 2,4-D and MCPP, under aerobic conditions. Specifically, the work had the following objectives; i) to develop and characterize bacterial mixed cultures for the 2,4-D and MCPP degradation, ii) to evaluate the degradation of 2,4-D and MCPP in shake-flasks and stirred tank reactors; and iii) to evaluate the treatment of industrial fertilizer solid wste material containing 2,4-D and MCPP.

  • Thianthrene cation radical perchlorate (1) reacted with azo-bis-2-phenoxy-2-propane (6) to give thianthrene (2), cisthianthrene-5,10-dioxide, 5-(p-hydroxyphenyl) thianthrenium perchlorate (10), acetone, phenol, and 5-(2-propenyl) thianthrenium perchlorate (11) when the mole trtio of 1 to 6 was 1:1. Among the products, 11 was a new compound. However, when the corresponding mole ratio was 5:1, 11 was not formed. Similar result was obtained for azo-bis-2-(p-nitrophenoxy)-2-propane.

  • Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl[Ethyl (R)-2-{4-(6-chloro-1,3-benzoxazol-2-yloxy)phenoxy}propionate] is well known as a herbicide for its specific activity against the weed grasses. This compound was synthesized by the reaction of 4-(6-chloro-1,3-benzoxazol-2-yloxy)phenol and ethyl (S)-O-(p-toluenesulfonyl)lactate in good yields with high optical pure(optical purity: 99.9% up). In this process Walden inversion occurs, whereby the S-configuration of the propionic acid derivative is converted to the R-configuration of the final product. 4-(6-Chloro-l,3-benzoxazol-2-yloxy)phenol was obtained by 5 step reactions in over-all 70% yields using inexpensive raw materials.

  • The effects of propanil, MCPA; 2, 4 5-T and silvex on the numder of new root and tiller on Taichung Native 1, Caloro, PI 245717 and Bluebonnet 50 by root administration and foliar spray at 10 levels of concentration were investigated. Phenoxy herbicides changed the growth pottern in the way of increased number of tillers and new roots rather than plant height or root length. It was suggested that MCPA is only possible to increase tillering around applicable range. Silvex stimulated tillering at higher level than that required to stimulate new root formation. Varietal response on herbicides were different along with herbicide feeding part. There was trends that the higher nitrogen response varieties also have a greater response to stimulating effect of herbicide. Propanil had no effect on growth and no injury even about 20 times of higher concentration of phenoxy herbicide.
