  • The induced linewidth, frequency shift and absorption spectrum for a molecular dipole in the vicinity of a phase -conjugate mirror have been investgated within a classical phenomenological model, with particularreference to the technique of optical phase conjugation by a surface. While the shifts and the widths show similar characteristics as those obtained recently by Bochove who considered the problem within the context of four-wave mixing, the results obtained in the present model can be defined uniquely with the possibility of an infinite lifetime for the excited admolecule . Furthermore, the absorption lineshape obtained here some interesting features which depend on both the magnitude and the phase of the complex reflectivity of the mirror.

  • In this study, out-of-plane properties and CTEs were predicted for 8-harness satin weave textile composites. The properties were calculated by unit cell analysis for configurations with varied waviness ratio and phase shifts. Macro elements were employed to reduce the computer resource requirement. It was found that the out-of-plane properties and CTEs were varied as the phase shift changed. However the dependency was much weaker than the in-plane properties.

  • The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the teleost hypothalamus contains a central circadian pacemaker, which adjusts circadian rhythms within the body to environmental light-dark cycles. It has been shown that exposure to darkness during the day causes phase shifts in circadian rhythms. In this study, we examined the effect of exposure to darkness on the mRNA expression levels of two circadian clock genes, namely, $Period2$ ($Per2$) and $Cryptochrome1$ ($Cry1$), and the rate-limiting enzyme in melatonin synthesis, arylalkylamine $N$-acetyltransferase-2 (Aanat2), in the pineal gland of olive flounder, $Paralichthys$ $olivaceus$. The expression of these genes showed circadian variations and was significantly higher during the dark phase. These changes may be involved in the mechanism of dark-induced phase shifts. Furthermore, this study suggests that olive flounder may be a teleost model to investigate the localization and function of circadian oscillators.

  • Voltage sags caused by line faults in transmission and distribution lines have become one of the most important power quality problems facing industrial customers and utilities. Voltage sags are normally described by characteristics of both magnitude and duration, but phase angle shifts should be taken account in identifying sag phenomena and finding their solutions. In this paper, voltage sags due to line faults such as three phase-to-ground, single line-to-ground, and line-to-line faults are characterized by using symmetrical component analysis, for fault impedance variations. Voltage sags and their effect on the magnitude and phase angle are examined. Balanced sags of three phase-to-ground faults show that voltages and currents are changed with equivalent levels to all phases and the zero sequence components become zero. However, for unbalanced faults such as single line-to-ground and line-to-line faults, voltage sags give different magnitude variations and phase angle shifts for each phase. In order to verify the analyzed results, some simulations based on power circuit models are also discussed.

  • As the sixth generation (6G) promising technique, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has recently attracted much attention. The IRS based wireless communication is expected to deploy the upcoming 6G mobile networks, to increase energy and spectrum efficiency in the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this paper, we compare the bit-error rate (BER) performances for phase-shift schemes of IRS non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). First, we derive a BER expression for the equalizing phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA networks. Then we compare the BER of the equalizing phase-shift scheme to that of the identical phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA networks, and show the BER improvement of the equalizing phase-shift scheme IRS NOMA over the identical phase-shift scheme IRS NOMA. Furthermore, we also validate the proposed analytical BER for the equalizing phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA by Monte Carlo simulations, and demonstrate that they well match each other.

  • An active phased away antenna consists of many channels including radiator and active circuitary that contains low noise amplifiers and phase shifters. Each channel has different initial phase shift and gain because of inequality in active circuitary itself, interface between radiator and active circuitary, beam forming network and other antenna configurations. This is an inherent problem in active phased away antenna, therefore each channels' initial phase shifts and gains should be calibrated for obtaining the designed radiation pattern and antenna gain. In this paper, an efficient calibration method for the active phased array antenna is presented. By performing the above method, thhe antenna gain is increased more than 2.0 dB after calibrating considerably unequal 12 channels' initial phase shifts and gains.

  • A phase-shifting projection moire method particularly intended for high-speed three-dimensional shape reconstruction of diffuse objects is presented. Emphasis is on realization of phase-shifting fringe analysis in projection moire topography using a set of line grating pairs designed to provide different phase shifts in sequence. Further a time-integral fringe capturing scheme is devised to remove undesirable high frequency original grating patterns in real-time without time-consuming software image processing. Finally the performances of the proposed method are discussed with measurement results.

  • We discuss the problems of scattering in this framework, and show that the applied method is very useful in the investigation of the effect of the resonance in the observed scattering cross sections. In this study, not only the scattering cross sections but also the decomposition of the scattering cross sections was computed for the ${\alpha}-{\alpha}$ system. To obtain the decomposition of scattering cross sections into resonance and residual continuum terms, the complex scaled orthogonality condition model and the extended completeness relation are used. Applying the present method to the ${\alpha}-{\alpha}$ and ${\alpha}-n$ systems, we obtained good reproduction of the observed phase shifts and cross sections. The decomposition into resonance and continuum terms makes clear that resonance contributions are dominant but continuum terms and their interference are not negligible. To understand the behavior of observed phase shifts and the shape of the cross sections, both resonance and continuum terms are calculated.

  • The shadow moire is one the optical techniques which able to give contour lines of an object with respect to a master grating plane. The moire patterns are issued from the superposition of a grating and its shadow projected on the surface of an object. But in the conventional shadow moire method the reference grating and deformed grating are mutually dependent, it is impossible to obtain uniform phase shifts on the whole field by moving the reference grating. Here we propose ane trial to apply phase shifting to conventional shadow moire. When, in the conventional arrangement, Phase-shifting that is sctually constant regardless of fringe orders is achieved by moving the grating and the light source. Finally we obtained a better result by using this procedure and applied the phase shifting shadow moire to three dimensional measurement.

  • We have proposed a simple method based on IIR filters for realizing sound image localization. How-ever the nonlinearity of phase characteristics of the IIR filters, which are used for sound image localization, cause decrease of the localization accuracy. In this paper we investigate the influence of phase characteristics on the sound localization. Head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) of a dummy-head are approximated by the IIR filter. We carried out sound image localization experiment with 2-loudspeaker reproduction using the approximated HRTFs. Then the errors which obtained from experiments were compared with the theoretical values which were estimated from the phase shifts of the IIR filters. As a result there was little influence of the nonlinear phase characteristics of the IIR fitters in the localization on the horizontal plane.
