  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of clothing cues (color, color scheme, structure) on impression formation by perceiver personality variable. The subjects were consisted of 77 male and 86 female undergraduate and graduate students. The experimental inventories for this study were a set of stimuli, a response scale, standardized MBTI. The stimuli were eighteen photographs and one extra photograph of a female wearing Korean dress, Chima and Jokori-varied in hue (cool, warm), color scheme (related schemes, con- trasting schemes) of the same silhouette. Results indicate that the most affecting perceiver's personality variables on impression effects were judging-perceiving traits and extraversion -introversion traits. The interaction effects were most frequently appeared between color scheme (clothing cues) and perceiver's personality traits. The impression factors which were most affected by perceiver's personality traits variables were preference· evaluation factor and individuality· attention factor.

  • Regardless of their intention, listeners tend to assess speakers' personalities based on the sounds of the speech they hear. Assessment criteria, however, have not been fully investigated to indicate whether there is any relationship between the acoustic cue of produced speech sounds and perceived personality impression. If properly investigated, the potential relationship between these two will provide crucial insights on the aspects of human communications and further on human-computer interaction. Since human communications have distinctive characteristics of simultaneity and complexity, this investigation would be the identification of minimum essential factors among the sounds of speech and perceived personality impression. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to identify significant associations between the speech sounds and perceived personality impression of speaker by the listeners. Twenty eight subjects participated in the experiment and eight acoustic parameters were extracted by using Praat from the recorded sounds of the speech. The subjects also completed the Neo-five Factor Inventory test so that their personality traits could be measured. The results of the experiment show that four major factors(duration average, pitch difference value, pitch average and intensity average) play crucial roles in defining the significant relationship.

  • This study investigated the relationship between the physical features and personality impression of faces. Subjects were exposed to male and female facial photographic images. Using 7-points scales, subjects were asked to rate 31 personality traits. The three factors extracted from factor analysis were labeled social desirability, activity, and intelligence. The analysis of correlation between physical features and factor scores of faces indicated that there is a significant correlation between features of eye of male faces and intelligence and between features of chin of female faces and intelligence and social desirability. These results suggested that subjects judged the personality impression, based on different physical features in male and female feces.

  • Most previous research on impression formation has been examined the effects of various informations exclusively within a category, either social category or individual characteristic. The present research examined and compared the priming effects of social category information (we and other) versus personality information (warm and cold) on impression formation. In Study 1, participants primed subliminally with combinations of social category and personality information (we/warm, we/cold, other/warm, and other/cold) were asked to rate faceial pictures on the good-bad and likable-dislikable dimensions. The analysis revealed only the significant main effects of social category information but not any effects of personality information on both the impression dimensions. In Study 2 in which participants were primed with either social category or personality information exclusively, priming of social category information influenced the judgments of likable-dislikable dimension and that of personality information influenced the judgments of good-bad dimension. These results suggest that personality information influences impression in general even though its impacts may be overwritten by social categorical information. The findings were discussed with its implication of everyday's impression formation and the cultural psychological perspectives.

  • As social media started to work as important communication tools, social media users have tried to manage their image, identity, and impression through social media. Social media service providers have been interested in providing various functions effectively disclosing users' emotion, such as posting, commenting, and sharing content; on the other hand, relatively few efforts have been made to provide social media functions for information suppression. In this study, therefore, we attempt to examine the relationship between Facebook users' personality and impression management behaviors. Personal traits of users including public self-consciousness, positive self-expression, and honest self-expression were considered as independent variables. Impression management behaviors are composed of two variables, which are suppression and projection. The survey was conducted, targeting 230 Facebook users. The research findings show that public self-consciousness and positive self-expression are positively associated with information suppression while both positive and honest self-expression is positively associated with information projection.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationships among clothing benefits sought, brand attachment, and brand loyalty. The subjects were 559 male and female consumers who were residents in Seoul. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, multiple regression, and path analysis. The results showed that there were seven clothing benefits sought: ideal figure/impression improvement, individuality, brand, fashion, comfort, conformity, and sex appeal. Brand attachment motives had two factors of brand personality/individuality expression and conformity/status elevation. Brand attachment consisted of love/friendliness and passion. Statistical analyses showed that there were significant relationships among clothing benefits sought, brand attachment, and brand loyalty. There were significant effects of clothing benefits sought factors on brand attachment motives. The consumers who sought benefits of ideal figure/impression improvement, individuality, and sex appeal had a brand personality/individuality expression motive. In the meanwhile the consumers who sought benefits of brand, fashion, comfort, conformity, and sex appeal had a conformity/status elevation motive. There were also significant effects of brand attachment motives on brand attachment. The consumers who had a brand personality/individuality expression motive felt love/friendliness and passion for their brands.

  • First impression is flexible that in a relationship it can be decided within four to ten seconds Therefore, to change the fixed image that has been formed at first impression requires lots of time and effect. Forming Rapo is one of a very important element in customer managing that form curiosity and credibility at first sight. This thesis is researched on Forming Rapo, which is important due to demand of change in business environment, to apply in the real market and increase the sale. The study applied on Enneagram that is proven to be the most effective tool for teach required passion and leadership within human personality system, and it explains nine different type of human personality. The used methodology was to set the hypothesis from selecting features that can be judged to apply on the sales field in the nine different type of personality. In addition, to support and prove the appliance of the hypothesis, one conduct the survey to 375 people, who found their personality type at KESI (Korea Enneagram Spiritual Institution).

  • Social interactions often involve encountering inconsistent information about social others. We conducted a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study to comprehensively investigate voxel-wise temporal dynamics showing how impressions are anchored and/or adjusted in response to inconsistent social information. The participants performed a social impression task inside an fMRI scanner in which they were shown a male face, together with a series of four adjectives that described the depicted person's personality traits, successively presented beneath the image of the face. Participants were asked to rate their impressions of the person at the end of each trial on a scale of 1 to 8 (where 1 is most negative and 8 is most positive). We established two hypothetical models that represented two temporal patterns of voxel activity: Model 1 featured decreasing patterns of activity towards the end of each trial, anchoring impressions to initially presented information, and Model 2 showed increasing patterns of activity toward the end of each trial, where impressions were being adjusted using new and inconsistent information. Our data-driven model fitting analyses showed that the temporal activity patterns of voxels within the ventral anterior cingulate cortex, medial orbitofrontal cortex, posterior cingulate cortex, amygdala, and fusiform gyrus fit Model 1 (i.e., they were more involved in anchoring first impressions) better than they did Model 2 (i.e., showing impression adjustment). Conversely, voxel-wise neural activity within dorsal ACC and lateral OFC fit Model 2 better than it did Model 1, as it was more likely to be involved in processing new, inconsistent information and adjusting impressions in response. Our novel approach to model fitting analysis replicated previous impression-related neuroscientific findings, furthering the understanding of neural and temporal dynamics of impression processing, particularly with reference to functionally segmenting each region of interest based on relative involvement in impression anchoring as opposed to adjustment.

  • With the help of information technology for a film, characteris both the composition of the story and one of the most important elements that lead the story. Character has a close relationship with personality description, and the character's age, background, education, and occupation help decide his or her personality. Charades are important in that by describing a character's psychology using charade techniques, it gives a stronger impression than by describing with merely lines or narration. When a man's thought changes, their behavior changes; when a behavior is repeated, it becomes habit; when a habit is repeated, it becomes nature. The nature is the person's personality, otherwise called character. Therefore, charade techniques describe a character's psychology well, and consequently, it has maintained its importance. Because human nature and in-depth psychological description have a connection with a character's personality development, I would like to discuss the topic through this research. By using Director Shunji Iwai's "April Story" as the text, the effects of charade techniques on a character's personality development in film will be analyzed by seeking and presenting the methodology shown within the work through charade-acting techniques used by the characters for the development of character's personality.
