This paper propose an initial rotor position detection method for sensorless operation of a single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(SP-PMSM) with asymmetric air-gap. In general, the sensorless control based on back-emf estimation is difficult to estimate the back-emf at the zero and low speed regions. For this reason, an open loop start-up technique is indispensable, and it is also necessary to detect the initial position of the rotor in order to rotate in a certain direction. In this paper, we propose a method to detect rotor polarity by adding offset voltage to high frequency voltage signal based on the magnetic characteristics of SP-PMSM. The validity and usefulness of the proposed algorithm are verified through several experimental results.

The control of stator flux, torque angle, excitation torque, reluctance torque and total torque of the direct torque control (DTC) for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) are studied in this paper. Simplified expressions to represent the changes of these variables due to the application of a voltage vector are given. Finally, a voltage vector selection area and the implementation of a voltage vector selection strategy are proposed.
This paper investigates an improved stator flux linkage observer for sensorless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives using a voltage-based flux linkage model and an adaptive sliding mode variable structure. We propose a new observer design that employs an improved sliding mode reaching law to achieve better estimation accuracy. The design includes two models and two adaptive estimating laws, and we illustrate that the design is stable using the Popov hyper-stability theory. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed estimator accurately calculates the speed, the stator flux linkage, and the resistance while overcoming the shortcomings of traditional estimators.

This paper proposes a torque control method of permanent magnet synchronous motor, which has small torque ripple. The proposed control method is using the finite control set-model predictive control(FCS-MPC) strategy. An optimal input voltage vector minimizing a cost function is chosen among 6 passible active input voltage vectors following the FCS-MPC strategy. Then, a modulation factor for the optimal input voltage vector is computed to minimize the torque ripple. Thus, the proposed control method yields fast torque response and small torque ripple. The efficacy of the proposed method was verified through simulation and experiment.

Accurate estimation of motor parameters is required in some motor control applications. For example, the value of stator resistance is required for stator flux-oriented control mostly used in doubly fed induction generator systems. Stator resistance is not a constant value and continuously changes due to the rise in temperature during motor operation. Estimation errors degrade the control performance. Hence, this study proposes a simple stator resistance estimation method. In this scheme, the differential components of voltage and current values are used to eliminate the dead-time effect, and Kalman filter algorithm is applied to reduce the error according to measurement noise. Simulation and experimental results obtained with a permanent magnet motor show the validity of the proposed algorithm.
This paper presents the sensorless position control of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) using stator flux estimation and Phase Lock Loop (PLL). The field current and the torque current are required in order to perform the vector control of the PMSM. At this time, it is necessary for the torque to know the exact position of the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet, because the torque must be applied torque current in the direction orthogonal to the permanent magnet. In general the speed of the PMSM is controlled by using a magnetic position sensor. However, this paper, we estimates the stator flux by using the PLL method without the magnetic position sensor. This method is simple and easy, in addition it has the advantage of a stabile estimation of the rotor. Finally the proposed algorithm was confirmed by experimental results and showed the good performance.

This paper proposes a sensorless drive of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. In general EMF is used to calculate the current of Permanet Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM). However the current has a lag component by a time constant. So it is difficult to directly calculate a position angle. To estimate the position using the current without a lag component in this paper, the controller calculates the motor current by using a superposition principle in the equivalent circuit and then compensates lag component with a time constant of the motor. Therefore the estimated motor current without a lag compoent can be obtained and it is used to calculate the rotor position indirectly. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, experimental results are shown in detail.
This paper proposes a novel method to reduce the torque ripple due to the non-ideality of the current sensing parts in vector-controlled inverter-fed PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) drive systems. The motor output torque equations are derived in terms of their offset voltages and different voltage transducing gains. And the effects of phase current errors on motor torque are analyzed for both salient PMSM and non-salient PMSM. The proposed method can eliminate the torque ripple by nulling the offset voltages and setting the voltage transducing gains to the same value. To verify the proposed method, digital simulations are carried out for non-salient PMSM.

The permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is widely used in various fields and the proportional-integral (PI) controller is popular in PMSM control systems. However, the motor parameters are usually unknown, which can lead to a complicated PI controller design and poor performance. In order to design a PI controller with good performance when the motor parameters are unknown, a control algorithm based on stability margin is proposed in this paper. First of all, based on the mathematical model of the PMSM and the least squares (LS) method, motor parameters are estimated offline. Then based on the estimation values of the motor parameters, natural angular frequency and phase margin, a PI controller is designed. Performance indices including the natural angular frequency and the phase margin are used directly to design the PI controller in this paper. Scalar functions of the d-loop and the q-loop are selected. It can be seen that the designed controller parameters satisfy Lyapunov large scale asymptotic stability theory if the natural angular frequencies of the d-loop and the q-loop are large than 0. Experimental results show that the parameter estimation method has good accuracy and the designed PI controller proposed in this paper has good static and dynamic performances.

A back-electromotive force (back-EMF) estimator for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) uses the three-phase voltage references of a current controller to estimate rotor position. However, owing to voltage drops caused by the nonlinear characteristics of switches and passive components, the actual voltage in the motor and the three-phase voltage reference may not match. This study proposes a sensorless control method using a sine-wave output filter applied between the motor drive system and PMSM. The precise voltage in the motor can be measured with the sine-wave output filter and applied to the input of the estimator. Moreover, given that the voltage in the motor can be measured precisely at extremely low speeds, the stable operation range of the back-EMF estimator can be secured. Experimental results show that the proposed sensorless control method has stable operation at extremely low speeds compared with conventional sensorless control.
