  • A permanent magnet flux switching (PMFS) machine has a simple rotor, whilst both magnets and coils are set in the stator, resulting in easy removal of heat due to both copper loss and eddy current loss in magnets. However, the volume of magnets used in PMFS machines is usually larger than in conventional PM machines, and leakage flux does exist at the non-airgap side. To make full use of the magnets and gain higher power density, a novel 3-dimensional (3D) field PMFS machine is developed. It combines merits of the tubular linear machine, external-rotor rotary machine and axial-flux rotary machine, hence, offers high power density and peak torque capability, as well as efficient utility of magnets owing to the unique configuration of triple airgap fields.

  • The Multi D.O.F spherical motor can drive rotating as well as tilting three degree of freedom with one motor. Existing three degree of freedom to drive with three motors that are connected by gears and belts, that will be too large size and big loss at gears and belts. So Reducing system size and improving efficient is using the Multi D.O.F spherical motor in three degree of freedom systems. For this reason, efficiency of Multi D.O.F spherical motor is one of the important performance indiccators. In this paper presented that how to improve the efficiency of the Multi D.O.F spherical motor. The fist of method is using the stator iron core's material with high permeability and resistivity for reducing the eddy current loss. However, it was the disadvatages of motor-making and economic. So author propose the resonable method of reducing the eddy current loss in the stator iron core. That is using the rotor with double-air gap.

  • By appliying an slternate pulsed magnetic field -generated by using a sequential ignition circuit and a magnet exciting circuit- with peak value of about 10 T to the rod type Nd based magnet Nd2Fe12.7Cr1.3B with length of 5 mm and diameter of 3.6 mm, the basic magnetic properties such as saturation magnetization, residual magnetization, coercivity, maximum energy products, magnetic anisotropy and anisotropic field are investigated with obtaining the major and minor J-H loops of the magnet. The increase in coercivity due to eddy currents in ac measurement of coercivity is calculated considering eddy current loss by analyzing a wave of generating magnetic field. The average coercivity calculated for the magnet is about 12.2 kOe, anisotropy magnetic field and anisotropic constant are measured as 60 kOe 2.43 Mj/$m^3$, respectively.

  • Soft magnetic composites (SMCs) are especially suitable for the construction of low-cost, high-performance motors with 3-D magnetic fields. The main advantages of SMCs is that the iron particles are insulated by the surface coating and adhesive used for composite bonding, the eddy-current loss is much lower than that in laminated steels, especially at higher frequencies, and the hysteresis loss becomes the dominant component of core losses. These properties enable machines to operate at higher frequencies, resulting in reduced machine size and weight. In this paper, 3-D topologies are proposed that enable the application of SMCs to effectively reduce losses in high-speed permanent magnet (PM) motors. In addition, the electromagnetic field characteristics of the motor topologies are evaluated and compared using a non-linear finite element method (FEM) based on 3-D numerical analysis, and the feasibility of the motor designs is validated.

  • This paper discusses the thermal effect of the number of permanent-magnet (PM) layers in an outer rotor machine. Depending on the number of axial-layer of PM, the operating temperature is compared analytically and experimentally. The electromagnetic analysis is performed using 3-dimensional time varying finite element method to get the heat sources depending on axial-layered PM models. Then thermal analysis is conducted using the lumped-parameter-thermal-network method for each case. Two outer rotor machines, which have the different number of axial-layer of PM, are manufactured and tested to validate the analysis results.

  • This paper describes the loss analysis based on load conditions of the air conditioning compressor motors using variable dc-link voltage. The losses of PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) should be analyzed by the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) output of inverter. The harmonic loss by the PWM cannot consider that using the current source analysis of the inverter. In addition, when the voltage of dc-link is variable with the condition of variable speed and load conditions in motor, the losses of motor are also changeable, however it is hard to analyze those losses by only electromagnetic finite element method (FEM). Therefore, this paper proposes the analysis method considering the carrier frequency of the inverter and the varying state of the dc-link voltage through the FEM-control coupled analysis. Using proposed analysis method, additional core loss and eddy current loss of permanent magnet caused by PWM could be analyzed. Finally, the validity of the proposed analysis method is verified through the comparison the result of coupled analysis with experiment.

  • Due to the high peripheral speed of the rotor and the relatively high conductivity of the magnets used, rotor eddy current loss can be substantial. On the basis of the coupled FEM and analytical method, this paper deals with the rotor loss analysis in permanent magnet high-speed machine with 3-phase rectifier.

  • When compared with traditional power frequency generators, the frequency of a super high-speed permanent magnet generator (SHSPMG) is a lot higher. In order to study the influence of frequency on the electromagnetic field of SHSPMGs, a 60000rpm, 117kW SHSPMG was taken as a research object. The two-dimensional finite element model of the generator was established, and the two-dimensional transient field of the generator was simulated. In addition, a test platform of the generator was set up and tested. The reliability of the simulation was verified by comparing the experiment data with that of the simulation. Then the generator electromagnetic field under different frequencies was studied, and the influence mechanism of frequency on the generator electromagnetic field was revealed. The generator loss, voltage regulation rate, torque and torque ripple were analyzed under the rated active power load and different frequencies. The influences of frequency on the eddy current density, loss, voltage regulation rate and torque ripple of the generator were obtained. These conclusions can provide some reference for the design and optimization of SHSPMGs.

  • The coaxial magnetic gear with the flux concentrating structure is known that it has the torque performance advantage over the coaxial magnetic gear having surface mounted permanent magnet, thanks to the flux focusing effect. But, if the solid cores are used in the modulating pieces and rotor cores to consider the mechanical reliability and cost reduction, the operating torque of the flux concentrating coaxial magnetic gear can be significantly diminished because the iron losses at the solid cores affect the actual transmitted torque. Furthermore, the modulating pieces and rotor cores have different characteristics of the iron losses from one another, because the space harmonic components of the magnetic flux density, which cause the iron losses, are different. Thus, in this paper, we focused on the analysis of the characteristics of the space harmonic components of the magnetic flux density and resultant eddy current losses in the surface mounted PM and flux concentrating coaxial magnetic gears, when these coaxial magnetic gears have the solid cores at the modulating pieces and rotor cores. The characteristics of pull-out torque (static torque), operating torque (dynamic torque), and efficiency are also researched, and compared by the 3D finite element analysis (FEA) and experiment.

  • This paper introduces two types of magnetization, and reports the effect of the magnetization direction on the iron loss in a brushless DC (BLDC) motor using a 2-D time-stepped voltage source finite-element method (FEM). The iron losses were found to consist of hysteresis and eddy current loss, which were calculated from the time variation of the magnetic field distribution. To confirm the analysis, a prototype BLDC motor was constructed with a sintered ferrite magnet. The analysis and experimental results suggest that the magnetization direction has a significant effect in terms of the iron loss characteristics of the BLDC motor.
