Development of a Performance Evaluation Model on Similarity Measurement Method of Malware (악성코드 유사도 측정 기법의 성능 평가 모델 개발)

  • While there is a great demand for malware classification to reduce the time required in malware analysis and find a new type of malware, various similarity measurement methods of malware to classify a lot of malwares have been proposed. But, the existing methods to measure similarity just represented the classification results by them and have not carried out performance comparison with other methods. This is because an evaluation model to compare the performance of similarity measurement methods is non-existent. In this paper, we propose a new performance evaluation model on similarity measurement methods of malware by using two indicators: success rate and degree of confidence. In addition, we compare and evaluate the performance of existing similarity measurement methods by using these two indicators.

  • In competitive society, performance management is an essential element of business success. Despite the importance of performance management, it has not been widely implemented in construction companies. In the recent years, construction companies have become more aware of its need to identify, implement, and sustain performance improvements more systematically. Thus, the objective of this paper is to develop performance management system (PMS) for construction companies. The roles of performance management system is not only measuring performance but also offering guidance to improve performance. Therefore, PMS needs benchmarking process that provides Best Practice and new knowledge. This paper investigates the case of PMSs in UK, USA, Brazil, and Chile and discusses the lessons learned. To overcome the limitations of existing PMSs, new performance measurement framework, in form of 'Construction' BSC, is proposed. Based on the 'Construction' BSC, key performance indicators are derived and methodology of performance management is suggested. This paper concludes by developing PMS for benchmarking in construction companies and recommending some further directions on this research topic.

  • This paper suggests a dynamic balanced scorecard (DBSC) model employing the concept of system dynamics (SD), which could overcome the limitations inherent in the conventional balanced scorecard (BSC) and facilitate strategic learning process in organizations. The BSC has been a successful framework for measuring an organization's performance in various Perspectives through translating an organization's vision and strategy into an interrelated set of key performance indicators and specific actions. The BSC, while having significant strengths over traditional performance measurement methods, however, has its own limitations, due to its static nature, such as overlooking two-way causation between performance Indicators and neglecting the impact of delayed feedback flowing from the adoption of new strategies or policy changes. To overcome these limitations, we employs SD, a methodology for understanding complex systems where dynamic feedback among the interrelated system components significantly impact on the system outcomes. The SD simulation model in the form of DBSC we suggest in this paper would serve as a useful strategic learning tool for facilitating an organization's communication process through various scenario analyses as well as predicting the dynamic behavior pattern of their key performance measures over a future time frame. For the demonstration purpose, we apply the DBSC model to Korea Coal Corporation (KoCoal ) BSC case.

  • This paper suggests a balanced scorecard (BSC) framework for measuring and evaluating the performance of knowledge workers in professional service firms(PSFs) which are typical knowldege-based organizations. As a strategic learning system, the balanced scorecard allows business leaders to drive and modify their business strategies based on the balanced measurement of key performance indicators(KPIs), which are basically divided into four domains such as financial achievement, customer orientation, internal business process, and innovation and learning. Conducting a focused case study on performance evaluation of knowledge workers from a balanced viewpoint, we could evaluate their competency and potential in more comprehensive manner. We also employ the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach for derive relative weights of key performance indicators and link it to a spreadsheet model for rating the individual performance of knowledge workers in a systematic way.

  • Indicators measuring performance and the level of informatization of construction companies have recently been developed. Construction companies' investment in informatization, however, is still relatively low compared to that of other companies in different industries, since it has been difficult in quantifying the effect of informatization on total performance. This study, therefore, conducted an industry survey using indicators provided by previous studies, and used them to calculate performance and informatization indices for construction companies. Finally, it suggested a quantitative analysis of the effect of informatization on these companies' performance.

  • In Korea, much effort is being made to introduce asset management for improved efficiency and lower costs. Many researches related to asset management are ongoing, but asset management for public facilities is still in its early development stage in many countries including Korea. It is necessary to continuously improve and complement asset management for its successful execution. Thus, there should be a series of performance measurements and evaluations to perceive the current state of asset management in Korea from which to set future goals. In developed countries including Australia, asset management performance is measured using various methods for diverse purposes. The Korea Institute of Construction Technology has recently launched a study entitled Development of an Asset Management System for Public Facilities (KTAM-40) to change the country’s existing countermeasure-type maintenance system into a preliminary maintenance system and to suggest asset management evaluation parameters. this study aims to develop performance indicators of effective asset management with respect to its utility, which shall include all matters that are important for the efficient measurement of the management of domestic public facilities using the BSC (Balanced Score Card) method, and AHP method.

Application of the Balanced Scorecard for the Performance Measurement in Health-care Organization (의료기관에서의 Balanced Scorecard를 이용한 성과측정)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a performance measurement factor of Balanced Scorecard(BSC) for health-care organization. We did also the research to evaluate the validity and reliability of these indicators. Fifty six health-care organizations are participated in a survey questionnaires. This questionnaires consists of 53-questions, which are the performance evaluation indicators designed by researcher, which are based on the Norton and Kaplan's BSC-Framework. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was carried out and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied to analyze the weight and significances of each factor. Factor analysis of the BSC resulted in 11 major measurement factors (Eigenvalue >1.0). The AHP analysis showed the list of the hospital BSC measurement factors and its KPI(Key Performance Indicator) weighted by its significance priorities. The recommendable degree of reliability and validity of these BSC factors suggests that these factors are adequate for performance measurements of the health-care organizations in Korea.

  • In Korea, the construction industry has been growing quantitatively because of its aggressive advances into overseas construction market and the Korean government's housing policy. Moreover, visions and goals such as 'construction industry promotion build up plan' have recently been promoted by the government while new strategic growth focused on competitiveness is gaining interests among the industry. However, there are a few problems in the construction performance. First, the specific performance measurement indicator or skills for the construction industry are hardly found in Korea. Currently, the finance or overall management system in the construction business are used as indicators to measure performances in not only the construction industry but all industries including the manufacturing industry. The government, the industry and universities recognized the need for the performance measurement indicator and skill and have developed and actively studied on them.

The Development of a Quality Measurement Tool for a Contract-Managed Hospital Foodservice (병원 위탁급식 품질관리를 위한 품질평가도구 개발)

  • The purposes of this study were: a) to develop the a quality measurement tool for the contract-managed hospital foodservice, and b) to evaluate their performance with the developed quality measurement tool, and c) to verify the reliability and validity of the quality measurement tool. The developed quality measurement tool comprised two parts, which were foodservice management and medical nutrition care service. The foodservice management part was classified into six functional categories which were Menu, Procurement and Storage, Production and Distribution, Facility and Utility, Sanitation and Safety, and Management and Evaluation. The medical nutrition care service part indicated the medical nutrition care provided. Quality measurement tool had 91 standards and 324 indicators. The quality measurement tools were distributed to the hospital foodservice manager employed by the foodservice company. The 324 indicators were measured by foodservice manager on the 5-Likert-type scales, and then adapted to a 100 point scale. The SPSS Ver. 11.0 was used for statistical analysis. The categories whose scores were evaluated as being high were Procurement', General Sanitation', Personal sanitation' and Waste' and the categories whose scores were evaluated as being low were Diet Order Manual', Standard Recipe', Appropriateness (Facility and Utility)', Check (Facility and Utility)'and Information Management'. All the categories of medical nutrition service were evaluated as having seriously low scores. Therefore, it was necessary for the contract-managed hospital foodservice to improve its performance in the area of medical nutrition care service. For the verification of the developed quality measurement tool, the reliability obtained by calculating Cronbach's α was 0.8747, and the content validity was also proved by scrutiny of the modification of the Professional group's techniques.
