  • PURPOSES: In this study, various laboratory tests were performed to investigate the suitability of wasted vinyl as a modifier of asphalt binder. METHODS: Based on the ASTM specification, variations in material properties of asphalt binder such as penetration, flash point, softening point, ductility, penetration index (PI), and performance grade (PG) with vinyl content were tested and analyzed. RESULTS: Lavoratory tests revealed that penetration and ductility of the asphalt binder increased with the vinyl content. The flash point, softening point, and PI decreased, and PG changed from 64-22 to 70-22 with increase of the vinyl content. CONCLUSIONS: Wasted vinyl modified the material properties of the asphalt binder. However, the asphalt binder with vinyl content over 6.0% was unsuitable as a pavement material.

  • In this study, it evaluate the coarse aggregate mixed effect to impact resistance performance of the fiber reinforced cement-based material. The type of fiber is Hooked-ended steel fiber, and mixed 1vol.% in concrete and cement composites. The impact experiment was conducted by using a spherical shape projectile diameter of 25mm to 170m/s speed and Impact resistance performance was evaluated by measuring the fracture grade, fracture diameter and depth.

  • The three kinds of tests are used to further study the effect of the amount of mineral powder in this mixture design. Firstly, comparing the relationship of the content of mineral powder and asphalt bitumen membrane thickness at different asphalt content, through film thickness to determine the range of gradation and asphalt content in laboratory tests, Grade A and Grade D, asphalt content 2.6%, 3.4% and 3.8% are set for the benchmark, then fatigue properties of the test are carried out in the established range, the result show that asphalt film thickness decreases with the addition of mineral powder. The result also show that fatigue properties of asphalt rubber mixture will reduced, when mineral powder added in, especially when the asphalt content is high.

  • Domestic residential buidling grading is currently comprised of 5 fields; sound-proofing, structure, ambient condition, living environment and fire-proofing. However, factors the take up most of the civil complaints are related to leakage, and waterproofing is not listed as part of the grading system. In particular, the Ministry of Land and Transport claims that the most crucial problems are leakage related in residential structures. Therefore, this study proposes to provide such grading system for waterproofing by AHP methodology based on waterproofing application locations in residential structures.

  • Automated essay grading has been proposed for over thirty years. Only recently have practical implementations been constructed and tested. This paper investigated the role of the nearest-neighbour algorithm within the information retrieval as a way of grading the essay automatically called Automated Essay Grading System. It intended to offer teachers an individualized assistance in grading the student\`s essay. The system involved several processes, which are the indexing, the structuring of the model answer and the grade processing. The indexing process comprised the document indexing and query processing which are mainly used for representing the documents and the query. Structuring the model answer is actually preparing the marking scheme and the grade processing is the process of assessing the essay. To test the effectiveness of the developed algorithms, the algorithms are tested against the History text in Malay. The result showed that th information retrieval and the nearest-neighbour algorithm are practical combination that offer acceptable performance for grading the essay.

  • Below-grade concrete structure in residential buildings are exposed to various cracking conditions in between installation, construction and usage. Leakage follows the cracks along the exterior wall and floor slabs, and leakage occurring in this conditioning brings about discomfort to the users inside the building. This study analyzes a survey on the causes of leakage in below-grade concrete structure and proposes a solution method.

  • This study is a fundamental research for recycling waste vinyl in asphalt concrete mixture for roadway pavement. The mixing method and proper content of waste polyethylene(PE) film were determined through preliminary mix design. This study was performed mix designs using 2 type graduations of aggregate and used two types waste PE film. The asphalt concrete mixture was satisfied with the specification of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. Its showed that dense grade asphalt concrete mixture containing waste vinyl were higher performance in comparision to other mixtures(common dense grade mixture and gap grade mixtures). From results of this study, it was confirmed that addition of waste vinyl improved on quality of asphalt concrete mixture.

  • A calibration technique for a redundant inertial measurement unit (IMU) containing low-grade inertial sensors is proposed. In order to calibrate a redundant IMU that can detect and isolate faulty sensors, the fundamental coordinate frames in the IMU are defined and the IMU error is modeled based on the frames. Equations to estimate the error coefficients of the redundant IMU are formulated, and a test sequence using a 2-axis turntable is also presented. Finally, a redundant IMU with cone configuration is implemented using low-grade inertial sensors, and the performance of the proposed technique is verified experimentally.

  • This paper describe the method for maintaining initial azimuth of tactical grade IMU. The proposed method uses the zero velocity update (ZUPT) algorithm based on Kalman filter and the azimuth information previously obtained through transfer alignment. ZUPT technique can estimate and correct navigation attitude errors using the observed velocity error without the need of other sensors. Also, ZUPT combined pre-obtained azimuth information allows to maintain initial azimuth for tactical grade IMU. We verify the performance improvement of the proposed azimuth maintaining method by simulation and test.
