Contrastingly, Seo-gu showed the highest level of settlement consciousness and the lowest need for resident self-help activities. Based on the results, high quality community facility should be provided to promote residential satisfaction and consciousness of residential participation and self-help activity must be improved. • The polarization of public opinion by regionalism is one of biggest problems in Korean society. This study attempts to examine the polarization of public opinion between two typical cities representing regionalism and explore the factors influencing on the polarization. The results show that the polarization of public opinion is based on the perceived public opinion rather than the real public opinion. The polarization of public opinion is greater with regional issue than national issue. In general, citizens of Pusan have a conservative bias in estimating other Pusan citizens' opinion and a liberal bias in estimating Gwangju citizens' opinion, whereas citizens of Gwangju have a looking-glass perception in estimating other Gwangju citizens' opinion and a conservative bias in estimating Pusan citizens' opinion. There are no significant differences of the real public opinion and the perceived opinion across three generations. But within each generation, the tendency of public opinion polarization is found between regions and is not shown to change over generations. Regression analyses show that individual's opinion and region are highly predictable variables that explain the perceived public opinion and the perception bias such as false consensus and pluralistic ignorance.

  • This study was conducted to suggest some alternatives to facilitate consumers' purchase of EAP (Environment-friendly Agricultural Products) by comparing purchasers and nonpurchasers in terms of their socio-economic characteristics, EAP purchasing behaviors and perceptions, and overall evaluation on EAP. Data were collected by 562 Gwangju citizens selected through snowball and convenient sampling procedures in 2007. Purchasers were more likely to be female, older, and in a higher income level than nonpurchasers. Purchasers, who were more knowledgeable about EAP, had a higher tendency to obtain EAP information through more diverse sources, and more relied on EAP certification mark to distinguish EAP. Purchasers were also more concerned about the safety from pesticides and had more confidence in the safety of EAP than nonpurchasers. Purchasers were more likely to perceive the importance of 'facilitation of EAP' and 'providing education and information about EAP' than nonpurchasers. Generally purchasers tended to be more satisfied with EAP and higher intention to increase their EAP purchase in the future. Implications of the results were discussed.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of multicultural complexes on activating local culture. Prior studies that discuss activating local culture through multicultural complexes focus on literature reviews or quantitative research methods, which do not incorporate the detailed and practical opinions of the users of the location. Therefore, this study collected detailed information through in-depth interviews with users, and investigated the future development methods of multicultural complexes based on the obtained information. It focused on the Asia Culture Center (ACC) in Gwangju, which is considered a prime example of a multicultural complex, and conducted in-depth interviews with citizens who have lived in Gwangju for at least five years as well as visited the ACC to investigate the research question from a detailed perspective. The results revealed that although the citizens of Gwangju have a positive perception of the functions of ACC as a cultural space representing the city that activates the local culture, they perceive it as partially insufficient to be considered a multicultural complex. Major findings included the following: the contents of the ACC do not have a mass appeal, its inflexible hours of operation inconvenience visitors, and the contents available for visitors lack in quantity and quality. Therefore, in order for the ACC to appeal as a successful multicultural complex, it is necessary to cooperate with the members of the community to investigate their needs with respect to the contents and location, and prepare strategic plans to satisfy those needs.

The analysis result showed that Gwangju residents (78.1%) accounted for the majority of the visitors to the Seoseokdae Peak and that the Mudeungsan National Park showed the attributes of both mountain type and suburb type. Most visitors (91.2%) perceived that columnar joints, including the Seoseokdae Peak, possessed the largest resource value in the Mudeungsan National Park, and the visitors showed concern over the potential damage to vegetation in the Seoseokdae Peak as the result of the overcrowded visitors. Over half of the visitors showed a positive response to the measures like partially restricted access or detour of mountain path to preserve and restore the Seoseokdae Peak. The total visitors and the regional visitors (residents of Gwangju, Damyang, and Hwasun), indicated that the facility management aimed at facilitating visitor experience affected the most on the satisfaction with park management. Moreover, the regional visitors answered that the visit management to control disorder and overcrowding would increase satisfaction. The result of the importance-satisfaction analysis showed a difference between the total visitors and the regional visitors in needed improvements as the total visitors believed that "amenities and information facilities" should be improved while the regional visitors believed that the focus should be on the "prevention of illegal and disorderly behaviors" and the "amenities and information facilities."

  • The Legal Consciousness is a feeling or attitude toward the law from the people. Most Korean had a traditional consciousness that did not consider the law so friendly, also, the perception of law is also very negative is the common result of various investigations so far. This is caused by a distrust of the political power that operates the law than just distrust of law. Moreover, it is a serious problem that these negative attitudes are getting stronger over time. Especially when looking at the situation of the monopoly of government affairs in Park Geun-hye administration, the law was not a means of realizing social justice on the side of the socially weak, it has come to the fact that the law has been recognized as a tool of oppression by the ruling group, which seizes power in a fraudulent manner and accumulates economic wealth. It was a really ridiculous incident. In addition, not all citizens need to be experts in law, but the law is a bowl for society, and filling the bowl is a moral form or value of society in general. And since society has a peculiar law, and the modern state has the rule of law as its basic principle, most human acts have a direct relationship with law. In particular, it is true that the problem of the legal consciousness of college students is frequently mentioned today. Therefore, in this study, through the examine the contents of the legal consciousness of the K university female students in Gwangju and will consider the cause of this.
