  • Multi-channel artificial reverberation algorithm to control perceived direction and distance is described in this paper. In conventional algorithms using IIR filters, reverberation time is the only parameter to be controlled. Moreover, since the convolution-based conventional algorithms apply only same impulse responses, but not considering sound localization, it was not realistic enough. The new algorithm proposed in this paper utilizes early reflections segmented according to the azimuth from which direct sound comes and controls perceived direction by panning the direct sound, and controls perceived distance by adjusting Energy Decay Curve (EDC) of reverberation and gain of the direct sound. In addition, the algorithm enhances Listener Envelopment(LEV) to make late reverberation incoherent among channels.

차량 내 경고음의 인간공학적 설계에 관한 연구 (Ergonomic Design of Warning Sounds Used in Cars)

  • This study aims to design ergonomic warning sound that is not confusing and enhancing preference. Four factors of the warning sound represented as interval, chord, reverberation and pitch were selected as independent variables. And, perceived urgency, perceived criticality, degree of confusion and user preference are measured as dependent variables. An experiment was conducted in silent lab environment. Warning sounds were given in 90dB constantly to subjects through stereo speakers. A statistical analysis revealed that interval was significant for perceived urgency; also interval and chord were both effective for perceived criticality. Pitch, interval, chord and the interaction between pitch and chord were effective in degree of confusion, so were reverberation, the interaction between reverberation and pitch and the interaction between reverberation and chord for preference. This study characterized the situation under which warning sounds are required into three types in terms of urgency and criticality; and found the right warning sound that the subjects perceived to best represent the situation through the validation study. These findings are expected to help the designer choose the right warning sound according to the situational contexts in which such warning sounds are implemented.

음향적으로 결합된 공간의 주관적 잔향감에 관한 연구 (A Subjective Study on the Reverberation Characteristics of Coupled Spaces)

  • 본 연구에서는 음향적으로 결합된 공간에서 개구부의 크기변화에 따른 주관적 잔향감의 평가를 청취실험을 통해 실시하고 주관적 잔향감을 예측할 수 있는 새로운 물리적 지표를 제시하고자 하였다. 대상공간의 물리적 음향특성은 물론 주관적 음향평가를 위하여 1/10 스케일의 모형을 제작하여 실험에 사용하였다. 주관적 잔향감평가를 위해 바이노럴 임펄스 리스펀스(binaural impulse response)를 더미헤드(dummy head)를 이용해 녹음하여 가청화작업(auralization)을 거쳐 청취실험에 음원으로 제시하였다. 청취실험결과, 주실이 흡음력이 낮은 잔향부실과 음향적으로 결합할 경우 개구율이 12.5%(주실면적대비 1.97%)일 때 주관적 잔향감이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났으며 개구율이 25%(주실면적대비 3.94%)이상일 때 주관적 잔향감이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다 주실이 흡음력이 높은 흡음부실과 음향적으로 결합할 경우 개구율이 $0%{\sim}6.25%$까지(주실면적대비 $0%{\sim}0.99%$)는 주관적 잔향감이 변화하지 않다가 개구율이 12.5%에서부터 점차적으로 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이중감쇠현상을 나타내는 물리적 지표 T30/T15는 개구율의 변화에 따른 주관적 잔향감과 상관도가 거의 없는 것으로 나타났으며 저자들이 제시한 새로운 지표 T30/Tbp이 주관적 잔향감과 높은 상관도를 보였다. 또한 개구율 변화에 따른 이중감쇠현상은 초기나 중기감쇠부분에서보다 후기감쇠부분에서 에너지가 현저하게 증가하는 것으로 나타나 T30/T15에 비해 LDT/EDT나 T3/T1가 주관적 잔향감과의 상관성이 높은 것으로 나타났다.

잔향실법 흡음률 측정에 미치는 확산체의 영향 (The effect of diffusers on the measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room)

  • Recently, international standard for measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room has been amended. In the revised version, temperature, humidity and air pressure conditions are strictly restricted and also the concrete procedures are presented to reduce the differences in test results by adding inspection of diffusion, measurement uncertainty etc. In this paper, the systematic tests are conducted based on the inspection guide of diffusion defined by ISO 354 and the effects of diffusers on the measurement of sound absorption ratio are considered. As a result, we perceived that the averaged sound absorption ratio in mid and high frequency range is expected to measure around $0.05{\sim}0.1$ higher in high sound absorption material. Therefore, as for the reverberation room for measurement of sound absorption, we need to take into consideration not only the spatial standard deviation of sound pressure mandated by ISO 3741, but also, inspection regulation of diffusion showed by ISO 354.

Listener Auditory Perception Enhancement using Virtual Sound Source Design for 3D Auditory System

  • When a virtual sound source for 3D auditory system is reproduced by a linear loudspeaker array, listeners can perceive not only the direction of the source, but also its distance. Control over perceived distance has often been implemented via the adjustment of various acoustic parameters, such as loudness, spectrum change, and the direct-to-reverberant energy ratio; however, there is a neglected yet powerful cue to the distance of a nearby virtual sound source that can be manipulated for sources that are positioned away from the listener's median plane. This paper address the problem of generating binaural signals for moving sources in closed or in open environments. The proposed perceptual enhancement algorithm composed of three main parts is developed: propagation, reverberation and the effect of the head, torso and pinna. For propagation the effect of attenuation due to distance and molecular air-absorption is considered. Related to the interaction of sounds with the environment, especially in closed environments is reverberation. The effects of the head, torso and pinna on signals that arrive at the listener are also objectives of the consideration. The set of HRTF that have been used to simulate the virtual sound source environment for 3D auditory system. Special attention has been given to the modelling and interpolation of HRTFs for the generation of new transfer functions and definition of trajectories, definition of closed environment, etc. also be considered for their inclusion in the program to achieve realistic binaural renderings. The evaluation is implemented in MATLAB.

청취자 위치 적응 실시간 사운드 재생 시스템의 개발 (Development of a Listener Position Adaptive Real-Time Sound Reproduction System)

  • 본 논문에서는 두 개의 스피커를 이용한 청취 환경에서 좌, 우 채널의 간섭 신호를 제거하기 위한 새로운 오디오 시스템을 개발하였다. 간섭 제거는 청취자의 위치에 따라 적응적으로 이루어져야 하기 때문에, 청취 위치를 추적하기 위한 기법이 적용되었다. 청취자 위치 추적은 2개의 마이크로폰을 통하여 이루어지며 채널 간 시간 지연을 이용하여 청취자의 방향을 추정하도록 하였다. 또한 잔향 환경에서의 사용을 고려하여 선형 예측 기법을 이용한 잔향 제거 기법이 적용되었다. 좌,우 채널의 간섭제거를 위한 음원-귀 간의 경로는 KEMAR 머리전달함수를 이용하여 나타내었다. 사용된 청취자 방향 측정 시스템의 유용성을 평가하기 위해 추정된 위치에서 채널 간섭의 성능을 평가하였다. 평가 척도로 채널 분리 비를 사용하였으며, 실험적인 결과, 사용자의 실제 위치와 추정된 위치 간에 다소 차이가 있더라도 -10 dB의 채널 분리비가 얻어짐을 확인 할 수 있었다. 제안된 알고리즘은 부동소수점 디지털 신호처리 프로세서를 이용하여 실시간 구현되었으며 청취자 평균 방향 오차는 5도, 주관적 간섭 제거율은 평균적으로 80 % 얻어짐을 알 수 있었다.
