In this paper, we focus on the per-flow throughput analysis of IEEE 802.11 multi-hop ad hoc networks. The importance of an accurate saturation throughput model lies in establishing the theoretical foundation for effective protocol performance improvements. We argue that the challenge in modeling the per-flow throughput in IEEE 802.11 multi-hop ad hoc networks lies in the analysis of the freezing process and probability of collisions. We first classify collisions occurring in the whole transmission process into instantaneous collisions and persistent collisions. Then we present a four-dimensional Markov chain model based on the notion of the fixed length channel slot to model the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm performed by a tagged node. We further adopt a continuous time Markov model to analyze the freezing process. Through an iterative way, we derive the per-flow throughput of the network. Finally, we validate the accuracy of our model by comparing the analytical results with that obtained by simulations.

Recently, as the rapid development of network technology and the increase of services required high bandwidth such as multimedia service, the network traffic dramatically increases. This massive increase of network traffic causes some problems such as the degradation of QoS and the lack of network resources and, to solve these problems, various research to guarantee QoS have been performing. Currently, The most representative method to guarantee the QoS is the DiffServ(: Differentiated Service). The DiffServ defines the AF(: Assured Forwarding) PHB(: Per Hop Behavior) and statistically ensures the throughput over the certain level of data rate. However, the TCP congestion control method that make up the majority of the Internet traffic is not fundamentally suitable to the DiffServ that guarantees the throughput without managing the individual flow. Therefore, in this paper, we present this mismatch through the simulation as an example and propose the solution by controlling the TCP of the terminal in the network. The proposed scheme utilizes the information of the reception window size included in the ACK frame and does not require any modification of the TCP algorithms currently in use.

In this paper, we propose an Aggregate Fairness Maker (ARM) required for an Edge router to improve fairness of throughput among the flows of Assured Service in DiffServ with different round trip time (RTT) and we propose a user flow Three Color Marker (uf-TCM) as a flow marker that marks packets from the flow as green, yellow, or red. A yellow packet is the packet that consumes loss token in uf-TCM as well as that is demoted green packet in AM due to disobey the aggregate traffic profile. The proposed AFH promotes yellow packet to green packet or demotes green packet to yellow packet through the fair method without per-flow management, and it improves the feirness of throughput among the flows as well as link utilization. A yellow packet and a red packet have the same drop precedence at Core Router in our scheme. So we can use the RIO buffer management scheme. We evaluated the performance of our proposed AFM and the REDP Marker that was proposed to improve fairness without per-flow management. Simulation results show that, compared with the REDP marker, proposed AFM can improve performance of throughput fairness among the flows with different RTT and link utilization under the over-provisioning, exact-provisioning, and under-provisioning network environments at Multiple DiffServ domains as well as at Single DiffServ domain.
In this paper, we propose an ATM switch with the rate more than gigabits per second to cope with future broadband service environments. The basic idea is to separate the connection control flow from the data information flow inside the switch. The proposed switch has a dual-plane switch matrix with the synchronous control algorithm. The queuing behaviors of the proposed switch are shown by the discrete-time queuing analysis. Numerical analyses are taken both in the non-blocking crossbar switch and the banyan switch with internal blocking. Results show that a proposed dual-plane $16{\times}16$ switch would have the acceptable performance with maximum throughput of about 95 percent.
A simple and fast throughput flow injection (FI) system with a merging-zone technique was designed to determine ferrous and ferric in an aqueous solution. The method is based on the direct reaction of ferrous with a Bathophenanthroline reagent (Bphen) in acidic media. The forming red complex absorbs light at 533 nm. All conditions of the flow injection system were investigated. The analytical curve of ferrous was linear in the range of 0.07 to 4 mg/L with an r2 value of 0.9968. The detection and quantification limits were 0.02 and 0.04 mg/L, respectively. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity were 4.0577 × 106 L/mol cm and 25 × 10-5 ㎍/cm2, respectively. The homemade valve was low-cost with high repeatability (n = 7) at an RSD of 1.26 % and zero dead volume. The values of the dispersion coefficient were 2.318, 2.022, and 1.636 for the concentrations of 0.2, 1, and 3 mg/L, respectively. The analysis throughput of the designed flow injection unit was 57 sample per hour.

Backpressure based scheduling has been considered as a promising technique for improving the throughput of a wide range of communication networks. However, this scheduling technique has not been well studied for heterogeneous wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a virtual-queue based backpressure scheduling (VQB) algorithm for heterogeneous multi-hop wireless networks. The VQB algorithm introduces a simple virtual queue for each flow at a node for backpressure scheduling, whose length depends on the cache size of the node. When calculating flow weights and making scheduling decisions, the length of a virtual queue is used instead of the length of a real queue. We theoretically prove that VQB is throughput-optimal. Simulation results show that the VQB algorithm significantly outperforms a classical backpressure scheduling algorithm in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless networks in terms of the packet delivery ratio, packet delivery time, and average sum of the queue lengths of all nodes per timeslot.
Semiconductor wafer fabrication is known to be one of the most complex manufacturing processes due to process intricacy, random yields, product diversity, and rapid changing technologies. In this study we are concerned with the impact of lot release and dispatching policies on the performance of semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities. We consider several semiconductor wafer fabrication environments according to the machine failure types such as no failure, normal MTBF, bottleneck with low MTBF, high randomness, and high MTBF cases. Lot release rules to be considered are Deterministic, Poisson process, WR(Workload Regulation), SA(Starvation Avoidance), and Multi-SA. These rules are combined with several dispatching rules such as FIFO (First In First Out), SRPT (Shortest Remaining Processing Time), and NING/M(smallest Number In Next Queue per Machine). We applied the combined policies to each of semiconductor wafer fabrication environments. These policies are assessed in terms of throughput and flow time. Basically Weins fabrication setup was used to make the simulation models. The simulation parameters were obtained through the preliminary simulation experiments. The key results throughout the simulation experiments is that Multi-SA and SA are the most robust rules, which give mostly good performance for any wafer fabrication environments when used with any dispatching rules. The more important result is that for each of wafer fabrication environments there exist the best and worst choices of lot release and dispatching policies. For example, the Poisson release rule results in the least throughput and largest flow time without regard to failure types and dispatching rules.

Carrier Ethernet backbone network integrates distributed layer-2 based metro networks. In this networks, Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) has been uscd as a main routing protocol that allows multiple spanning trees in a network. A better routing protocol called IEEE802.1aq - Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) is recently proposed, that generates the shortest spanning tree per a destination node. As SPB provides a routing path per a destination node, there is no way to adapt network traffic at normal condition. If we are free from the principle of "a spanning tree per a destination node", we can achieve adaptive routing. Based on this philosophy, we propose a new spanning tree based protocol - Edge Node Divided Spanning Tree (ENDIST). ENDIST divides an edge node into sub-nodes as many as connecting links from the node and each sub-node generates a single shortest path tree based on SPB. Depending on network or nodal status, ENDIST chooses a better routing path by flow-basis. This added traffic engineering ability contributes to enhanced throughput and reduced delay in backbone networks. The simulation informs us that ENDIST's throughput under heavy load performs about 3.4-5.8 and 1.5-2.0 times compared with STP's and SPB's one respectively. Also, we verified that ENDIST's throughput corresponds to the theoretical upper bound at half of cases we investigated. This means that the proposed ENDIST is a dramatically enhanced and the close-to-perfect spanning tree based routing schemes.

To promote the inclusion of end-to-end congestion control in the design of future protocols using best-effort traffic, we propose a router mechanism, Extended FRED(ex-FRED). In this paper, we catagorize the TCP controlled traffics into robust and fragile traffic and discuss several unfairness conditions between them caused by the diverse applications. For example, fragile traffic from bursty application cannot use its fair share due to their slow adaptation. Ex-FRED modifies the FRED(Fair Random Early Drop), which can show wrong information due to the narrow view of actual buffer. Therefore, Ex-FRED uses per-flow accounting in larger virtual buffer to impose an each flow a loss rate that depends on the virtual buffer use of a flow. The simulation results show that Ex-FRED uses fair share and has good throughput.

In this paper we will discuss two different layout concepts which can be applied to rail-vehicle assembly factory. The existing system is based on the traditional flow line, and the suggested system is based on the fixed position layout. The main factors which affect on the system performances are the variation of process time, shortage rate of part and the shortage period. Simulation experiments indicate that the fixed position layout is better with respect to the throughput, mean flow time per vehicle and the mean flow time per fleet. Furthermore, the fixed position layout is more robust than the flow line because performance measures are insensitive to the variations of factors.
