Damages to buildings affected by a near-fault strong ground motion are largely attributed to the vertical component of the earthquake resulting in column failures, which could lead to disproportionate building catastrophic collapse in a progressive fashion. Recently, considerable interests are awakening to study effects of earthquake vertical components on structural responses. In this study, detailed modeling and time-history analyses of a 12-story code-conforming reinforced concrete moment frame building carrying the gravity loads, and exposed to once only the horizontal component of, and second time simultaneously the horizontal and vertical components of an ensemble of far-field and near-field earthquakes are conducted. Structural responses inclusive of tension, compression and its fluctuations in columns, the ratio of shear demand to capacity in columns and peak mid-span moment demand in beams are compared with and without the presence of the vertical component of earthquake records. The influences of the existence of earthquake vertical component in both exterior and interior spans are separately studied. Thereafter, the correlation between the increase of demands induced by the vertical component of the earthquake and the ratio of a set of earthquake record characteristic parameters is investigated. It is shown that uplift initiation and the magnitude of tensile forces developed in corner columns are relatively more critical. Presence of vertical component of earthquake leads to a drop in minimum compressive force and initiation of tension in columns. The magnitude of this reduction in the most critical case is recorded on average 84% under near-fault ground motions. Besides, the presence of earthquake vertical components increases the shear capacity required in columns, which is at most 31%. In the best case, a direct correlation of 95% between the increase of the maximum compressive force and the ratio of vertical to horizontal 'effective peak acceleration (EPA)' is observed.

This paper presents average numerical results of 2128 nonlinear dynamic finite element (FE) analyses of lightweight acceleration-sensitive non-structural components (NSCs) attached to the floors of one-bay three-storey reinforced concrete (RC) primary structures (P-structures) with different eccentricity ratios. The investigated parameters include the NSC to P-structure vibration period ratio, peak ground acceleration, P-structure eccentricity ratio, and NSC damping ratio. Appropriate constitutive relationships were used to model the behaviour of the RC P-structures. The NSCs were modelled as vertical cantilevers fixed at their bases with masses on the free ends and varying lengths so as to match the vibration periods of the P-structures. Full dynamic interaction was considered between the NSCs and P-structures. A set of seven natural bi-directional ground motions were used to evaluate the seismic response of the NSCs. The numerical results show that the acceleration response of the NSCs depends on the investigated parameters. The accelerations of the NSCs attached to the flexible sides of the P-structures increased with the increase in peak ground acceleration and P-structure eccentricity ratio but decreased with the increase in NSC damping ratio. Comparison between the FE results and Eurocode 8 (EC8) predictions suggests that, under tuned conditions, EC8 provisions underestimate the seismic response of the NSCs mounted on the flexible sides of the plan-irregular RC P-structures.
This paper presents a methodology for satisfying the thermal comfort of Indoor environment and reducing the summer peak demand power by minimizing the power consumption for an Air-conditioner within a space. KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) use the fixed duty cycle control method regardless of the indoor thermal environment. This method has disadvantages that energy saying depends on the set-point value of the Air-Conditioner and DLC has no net effects on Air-conditioners if the appliance has a lower operating cycle than the fixed duty cycle. A variable duty cycle estimates the PMV(Predict Mean Vote) at the next step with a predicted temperature and humidity coming from the back propagation neural network model. It is possible to reduce the energy consumption by maintaining the Air-conditioner's OFF state when the PMV lies in the thermal comfort range. The proposed methodology uses the historical real data of Sep. 7th, 2001 from a classroom in seoul to verify the effectiveness of the variable duty cycle method comparing with fixed duty cycle. The result shows that the variable duty cycle reduces the peak demand to 2.6times more than fixed duty cycle and increases the load control ratio by 8% more. Based on the variable duty cycle control algorithm, the effectiveness of DLC is much more improved as compared with the fixed duty cycle.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of clubhead velocity through regression analysis on the magnitude and time difference of the forward-backward, mediolateral, and vertical ground reaction peak forces generated by force plate during golf swing. Method: 16 subjects (age: 20.5±4.2 yrs, height: 176.0±5.4 cm, weight: 77.8±5.9 kg, handy: 2.4±1.7) who is elite golf player in high school and university, participated in this study. The study method adopted three-dimensional analysis with 8 cameras and ground reaction force measurement with two force plate. The analysis variables were clubhead velocity, and ground reaction analysis variables set four events in each graph based on the peak forces commonly generated in Fx, Fy, and Fz graphs of the ground reaction data during the golf swing. Results: As a result of analyzing the influence of ground reaction magnitude difference on clubhead velocity, the influence on clubhead velocity was ym4, zm1, xm4, zm2. The larger ym4, xm4, zm1, the fasterthe clubhead velocity, but the smallerthe zm2, the faster the clubhead velocity. And in time difference, the influence on the clubhead velocity was in the order of xt4, zt1, zt3. The shorter xt4, zt1, zt3 showed faster clubhead velocity. Conclusion: The leftfoot played a leading role in increasing the velocity of the clubhead. Although the result was caused by the interaction of the right foot and the left foot during the swing, the role of the left foot is relatively large.

This paper describes the development of a portable potentiostat which can perform square wave voltammetry on electrochemical sensors and wireless transmission of the measured data to a smartphone using Bluetooth. The potentiostat consists of a square wave potential pulse generation circuit for applying the potential pulse to the electrochemical sensor, a reduction/oxidation (or redox) current measurement circuit, and Bluetooth for wireless data transmission to an Android-based smartphone. The measured data are then processed to show the output graph on the smart phone screen in real time. This data transformation into a graph is carried out by developing and installing a simple transformation application software in the Android-based smartphone. This application software also enables the user to set and change the measurement parameters such as the applied voltage range and measured current range at user's convenience. The square voltammetry output data measured with the developed portable potentiostat were almost same as the data of the commercial potentiostat. The measured oxidation peak current with the commercial potentiostat was $11.35{\mu}A$ at 0.26 V and the measured oxidation peak current with the developed system was $12.38{\mu}A$ at 0.25 V. This proves that performance of the developed portable measurement system is comparable to the commercial one.
This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics of cooked rice with cereals frequently consumed in Korea by blending ratio. Seven kinds of cereals, white rice, glutinous barley, brown rice, black rice, glutinous rice, glutinous foxtail millet and proso millet, were chosen for the study. According to the results from rapid viscosity analyzer, glutinous barley had the lowest pasting temperature($66.55^{\circ}C$) and black rice had the highest values in the peak(231.77 RVU), trough(162.25 RVU), final viscosity(295.81 RVU) and set back(64.05 RVU)(p<0.05). Water absorption rate by soaking time for black rice and brown rice was increased only 18.77% and 14.57%, respectively, even after 120 minutes, whereas those of other cereals were increased up to 20.28~39.32% after 50 minutes. The pasting characteristics of white rice blended with cereals tended to be lower than white rice in the peak, trough, and final viscosity. Textural property of cooked white rice blended with black rice, brown rice, and glutinous foxtail millet showed a significantly higher value for hardness than that of cooked white rice only(p<0.05). The most preferred blending ratio of the respective cereals was 25% for glutinous barley, 10% for black rice, brown rice and proso millet, and 5% for glutinous foxtail millet and glutinous rice in the sensory evaluation for overall quality, but there were no significant differences except glutinous barley, brown rice and glutinous foxtail millet.

An effective and precise method using a scanning white-light interferometer (SWLI) for three-dimensional surface measurements, in particular for roughness measurements, has been proposed. The measurement of a microscopically sloped area using an interferometer has limitations, due to the numerical aperture of the lens. In particular, for roughness measurements, it is challenging to obtain accurate height data for a sloped area using the interferometer, due to diffraction of the light. Owing to these optical limitations of the interferometer for roughness measurements, the Ra measurements performed using an interferometer contain errors. To overcome the limitations, we propose a method consisting of the following two steps. First, we evaluate the height data and set the invalid height area to be blank, using the characteristics of the modulus peak, which has a low peak value for signals that have low reliability in the interferogram. Next, we interpolate the blank area using the adjacent reliable area. Rubert roughness standards are used to verify the proposed method. The results obtained by the proposed method are compared to those obtained with a stylus profilometer. For the considered sinusoidal samples, Ra ranges from $0.053{\mu}m$ to $6.303{\mu}m$, and we show that the interpolation method is effective. In addition, the method can be applied to a random surface where Ra ranges from $0.011{\mu}m$ to $0.164{\mu}m$. We show that the roughness results obtained using the proposed method agree well with profilometer results. The $R^2$ values for both sinusoidal and random samples are greater than 0.995.
The purpose of this study was to compare the level of physical fitness and isokinetic strength, between EMT student and physical education students. Nine a major in EMT student volunteers, and nine a major in physical education student volunteers participated in that study as subjects. The basic physical body composition, fitness and isokinetic strength were measured. The data obtained in the study was analyzed by SPSS PC+ for window version 10.0. The difference in the mean of each variable between the two groups was analyzed by using the independent t-test and the significance level for all analysis was set at <.05. The results were as follows ; 1. There was a significant difference in the basic physical fitness between the two groups with the exception flexibility. The difference showed the statistical significance on back strength, balance and power in physical education students. 2. There were significant difference in body composition between the two groups with the exception of lean body fat. The difference showed the statistical significance on body fat%, body fat mass in the physical education students. 3. There was significant defference in the isokinetic strength between the two group. The difference showed the statistical significance on peak torque, peak torque B/W%. It was concluded that the physical education students may not have an effect of flexibility; however, back strength, balance, power, body composition, isokinetic strength, could be enhanced due to the long-term period of training. Based on the findings of this study, the regular participation of regular exercise help the untrained men achieve health-related fitness.
The Paper studies the flow and heat transfer characteristics to a jet impinging at different oblique angles, to a plane surface by numerical methods. The flowfield and heat transfer rate associated with the oblique Impingement of an axisymmetric jet are of interest as a result of its presence in numerous technological Problems. For the computation of heat transfer rate, the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}-\bar {{\upsilon}'^ 2}$ turbulent model were adapted. The accuracy of the numerical calculations was compared with various experimental data reported in the literature. ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}-\bar {{\upsilon}'^ 2}$ model showed better agreement with experimental data than standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model in prediction of the turbulent intensity and the heat transfer rate. In the case of computation of flowfield, the study carries on the ${\alpha}=45$ deg, h/D=4.95. The jet Reynolds number based on the nozzle diameter(D), was 48,000. For the computation of heat transfer rate, the Re=20,000, the jet orifice-to-plate spacings(L/D) are 4, 6 and 10, and the angle between the axis of the jet orifice and the plate surface is set at 30, 45, 60, or 90 deg. For the smaller spacings, the near-peak Nusselt numbers are not significantly effected by the initial decreases in the Jet angle. The overall shape of the local Nusselt number x-axis profile is influenced by both the jet orifice-to-plate spacing and the jet angle.
This paper describes a robust watermark decoding model using a SVM(Support Vector Machine). First, the embedding process is performed inversely for a watermarked signal. And then the watermark is extracted using the proposed model. For SVM training of the proposed model, data are generated that are watermarks extracted from sounds containing watermarks by four different embedding schemes. BER(Bit Error Rate) values of the data are utilized to determine a threshold value employed to create training set. To evaluate the robustness, 14 attacks selected in StirMark, SMDI and STEP2000 benchmarking are applied. Consequently, the proposed model outperformed previous method in PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) and BER. It is noticeable that the proposed method achieves BER 1% below in the case of PSNR greater than 10 dB.
