  • Oil is obviously vital for economic growth and industry development. This paper attempts to explore whether or not there is a inverted-U relationship between oil consumption and economic growth. To this end, we employ a panel data analysis with fixed effect or random effect models using the set of data from 61 countries for the year 1990-2008. In conclusion, a statistically significant inverted-U relationship between per capita consumption of oil and per capita GDP is found. However, the level of per capita GDP at the peak point of per capita oil consumption is estimated to be 65,072 in 2005 international constant dollars, which is much larger than economic scales of sampled countries. Thus, as per capita GDP grows, per capita oil consumption is predicted to increase until eventually reaching the peak.

  • An utilization of electricity usage measured data by region and time through the consumer portal system for building and large consumer are suggested. Electricity usage data by region and time can't be measured by traditional approach. A measured data from smart meters which are installed various regions can be utilized to set up a management of electricity peak demand.

  • This paper shows a vernier delay technique for generating precise multiphase clocks using PLL structure. The proposed technique can achieve the finer timing resolution less than the gate delay of the delay chain in VCO. Using this technique, 62.5ps of timing resolution can be achieved if the reference clock rate is set at 1GHz using 0.18um CMOS technology. Jitter of 14ps peak-to-peak was measured.

  • Coolant flow distribution to the assemblies and core coolant/component temperatures should be determined in LMR core steady state thermal-hydraulic performance analysis. Sodium flow is distributed to core assemblies with the overall goal of equalizing the peak cladding midwall temperatures for the peak temperature pin of each pin bundle, thus pin cladding damage accrual and pin reliability. The flow orificing analysis for conceptual design will be performed with Excel spreadsheet program ORFCE which was set up and tested, using the calibration factors based on available analyses data. For the verification of this program, flow orificing calculation for the MDP 840MWth core was performed. The calculational results are satisfactory compared to those of CRIEPI calculation.

  • The complex nature of low flow mixing in natural channels has been investigated using both laboratory experiments and the numerical solution of a proposed mathematical model that is based on a set of mass balance equations describing the mixing and mass exchange mechanisms. Laboratory experiments, which involved collection of channel geometry, hydraulic, and dye dispersion test data, were conducted in a model of four pool and riffle sequences in a 49-m long tilting flume. The experimental results show that flow over the model pool-riffle sequences is highly non-uniform. Concentration-time curves are significantly skewed with long tails. Comparison between measured and predicted concentration-time curves shows good agreement in the general shape, peak concentration and time to peak. The proposed model shows significant improvement over the conventional one-dimensional dispersion model in predicting natural mixing processes in open channels under low flow conditions through pools and riffles.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the power consumption property of EVs(Electric Vehicles) chargers established in a public place, proposed reasonable demand factors by the number of established EV chargers and its control method in apartments. The optimization of power system and the suppression of the peak load can be controlled through the proposed demand factors and charging scheduling control algorithm. In this paper, electrical design and an case analysis were carried out on a sample apartment complex to prove the effectiveness of the power system. As a result, emergency power transformer capacity has been reduced by approximately 25%, and we have confirmed that the electric rates saving and the control of peak load value is possible.

  • Due to the development of CNC machining centers and the complexity of machined part geometry, the ball-end milling became the most widely used the cutting process. Generally, the tool runout defined as the eccentricity of a rotating tool set in the holder involved the spindle runout and the problem of tool runout generated to remove the workpiece is a main factor affecting the machining accuracy. In this paper, the relationship of tool runout(zero-to-peak, P-K) and surface shape on the change of cutting conditions is studied and it is proposed the probability of prediction of surface shape from the in-process tool runout measurements with high response displacement sensor in the ball-end milling

  • An estimation method for the characteristic parameters in the low frequency signal is proposed in this paper. A low frequency signal is assumed to be modulated or distorted by high frequency terms. The algorithm proposed in this paper is designed to select set of local maximums in a successive manner, hence it is denoted as the iterative peak picking(IPP) algorithm. The IPP algorithm is operating in the time domain and is using only the comparison operation between two neighboring samples. Therefore, its computational complexity is very low and the delay caused by the computation is negligible, which make the real-time operation possible with economic hardware. The proposed algorithm is verified on the pitch estimation of speech signal and blood pulse estimation.

  • This paper represents a syntactic peak detection algorithm which detects peaks in the ECG signal. In the algorithm, the input waveform is linearly approximated by "split-and-merge" method, and then each line segment is symbolized with primitive set. The peeks in the symbolized input waveform are recognized by the finite-state automata, which the deterministic finite-state language is parsed by. This proposed algorithm correctly detects peaks in a normal ECG signal as well as in the abnormal ECG signal such as tachycardia and the contaminated signal with noise.

  • In order to find out the effect of low level of starch acetylation on physicochemical properties of potato starch, amylose content, digestibility of raw and gelatinized starch, thermal properties, pasting properties, and the swelling power of native and acetylated potato starches were measured. The amylose content was significantly lower in acetylated starch than in their counterpart native starches. Though a tendency in the decrease in digestibility of raw starch was observed with starch acetylation, acetylation did not alter the proportion of readily digestible starch (RDS), slowly digestible starch (SDS), and resistant starch (RS) of both raw and gelatinized potato starches. No clear increase in the swelling power was observed, however, the peak and onset gelatinization temperatures and the enthalpy required for starch gelatinization decreased with starch acetylation. Peak and breakdown viscosities were reduced due to acetylation of potato starch while final viscosity and set back were increased.
