  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been adopted as a standard for various high data rate wireless communication systems due to the spectral bandwidth efficiency, robustness to frequency selective fading channels, etc. However, implementation of the OFDM system entails several difficulties. One of the major drawbacks is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which results in intercarrier interference, high out-of-band radiation, and bit error rate performance degradation, mainly due to the nonlinearity of the high power amplifier. This paper reviews the conventional PAPR reduction schemes and their modifications for achieving the low computational complexity required for practical implementation in wireless communication systems.

  • Using DG for peak-shaving unit could reduce the overall system operating cost, and using DG for standby power unit could improve the reliability of the distribution system The models of peak-shaving unit and standby power unit are different from each other. The Monte-Carlo simulation is suitable for the purpose of the analysis of two DG models. In this paper, the reliability indices are calculated from the time-sequential method, and the merit and defect of the peak-shaving unit and standby power unit are investigated.

  • This paper evaluates economic benefits of ESS (Energy Storage System) for peak load shaving in the substation of urban railway. For this purpose, the method to determine capacities of ESS and PCS (Power Conditioning System) for peak load shaving is proposed. Then the economic benefits of those devices are evaluated using net present value method. The proposed methods are applied to actual measurements of loads in the substation of urban railway. The results show that electric power costs can be reduced and the economic benefits of ESS for peak load shaving mainly depends on the price of battery.

  • The tone reservation method is one of the most effective pre-distortion methods for peak-to-average power ratio reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Its direct application to OFDM systems with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM) is, however, not effective. In this paper, two novel TR-based methods are proposed, specifically designed for OFDM/OQAM systems by taking into consideration the overlapping nature of OQAM signals. These two methods have different approaches to the generation of the peak-cancelling signal. The first one (overlapped scaling tone reservation) generates the peak-cancelling signal using a least squares approximation algorithm with possible adjacent symbol overlap; the second one (multi-kernel tone reservation) generates the peak-cancelling signal by using multiple impulse-like time domain kernels. It is shown by simulation that, when used in OFDM/OQAM systems, the proposed methods can provide better performance than the direct application of the existing controlled clipping tone reservation method, and even outperform the multi-block tone reservation method.

  • Recently current mode control is widely adopted in switching power converter because of inherent stablity and ability of parallel operating. There are several ways in current mode control. One of them, peak current control is chiefly employed. Peak current mode control converter usually senses and controls peak inductor current. But there is peak-to-average current errors. Therefore peak current control needs compensation ramp correcting the errors. Average current mode control eliminates these problems, and is constructed by simple structures. This paper will describe the behavior of a simple average current mode boost converter and introduce the design techniques.

  • The contracted electric power and the demand factor of customers are used to predict the peak load in distribution transformers. The conventional demand factor was determined more than ten years ago. The contracted electric power and power demand have been increased. Therefore, we need to prepare the novel demand factor that appropriates at present. In this paper, we modify the demand factor to improve the peak load prediction of distribution transformers. To modify the demand factor, we utilize the 169 data acquisition devices for sample distribution transformers. The peak load currents were measured by the case studies using the actual load data, through which we verified that the proposed demand factors were correct than the conventional factors. A newly demand factor will be used to predict the peak load of distribution transformers.

  • For the tone reservation (TR) scheme in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), there exists a trade-off between peak to average power ration (PAPR) reduction performance and data transmission rate. While PRT set is fixed in the conventional TR scheme, the proposed scheme adaptively select the PRT set according to the PAPR of the input OFDM symbol. It is shown that the PAPR reduction performance of the proposed scheme is better than that of the conventional scheme when the data transmission rate is the same.

  • This study generated flood time series of ungauged catchments in the Andongdam catchment using a distributed rainfall-runoff model and data generation method, and extracted the peak flows of 50 catchments to investigate the effect of rainfall spatial variability on peak flow simulation. The model performance statistics for three gauged catchments were reasonable for all events. The flood time series of the 50 catchments were generated using distributed and mean rainfall time series as input. The distribution of the peak flow using the mean rainfall was similar or slightly different to that using the distributed rainfall when the distribution of the distributed rainfall was nearly uniform. However, the distribution of the peak flow using the mean rainfall was reduced significantly compared to that using the distributed rainfall when actual storms moved to the top or bottom of the study catchment, or the rainfall was randomly distributed. These cases were 35% of total number events. Therefore, the spatial variability of rainfall should be considered for flood simulation. In addition, the power law relationship estimated using the peak flow of gauged catchments cannot be used for estimating the peak flow of ungauged independent catchments due to latter's significant variation of the peak flow magnitude.

  • In general, Diode makes a major role in electronic circuit. For example, switching of rectifier, cross current of switching rectifier, energy transfer of electronic element and reverse charge of capacitor, voltage insulation, energy feedback from load to power supply, and such as recovery of storaged energy. Generally, We regard power diode as ideal element, but it has a certain boundary actually, specially, We use diode for detecting circuit peak hold voltage signal. It has cut in voltage. It occurs error of measurement value namely. This error, below in region diode voltage drop (0.7v) measurement value is wholesome signal, Specially, We can not get precision data. Therefore, precision level is low between theoretical and measurement data because of error in actual circuit. Conclusionally, In this paper, We define the error concerning to the power diode characteristics which is used detecting of the minute signal, and recommend the method that minimize measurement error.
