  • An immune system has powerful abilities such as memory, recognition and learning how to respond to invading antigens, and has been applied to many engineering algorithms in recent year. In this pap er, the combined optimization algorithm (Immune- Genetic Algorithm: IGA) is proposed for multi-optimization problems by introducing the capability of the immune system that controls the proliferation of clones to the genetic algorithm. The optimizing ability of the proposed combined algorithm is identified by comparing the result of optimization with simple genetic algorithm for two dimensional multi-peak function which have many local optimums. Also the new combined algorithm is applied to minimize the total weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearings. The inner diameter oil the shaft and the bearing stiffness are chosen as the design variables. The dynamic characteristics are determined by applying the generalized FEM. The results show that the combined algorithm and reduce both the weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearing with dynamic conatriants.

  • Exposure to 2-Bromopropane has been known to cause degeneration of male germ cells. However the mechanism underlying this process is poorly understood. The objective of this study was to determine whether or not the exposure of male Sprague-Dawley rats to 2-BP induces apoptosis in male germ cells. Male rats(N=3 or 4 in each group) were orally administered either with the corn oil vehicle (10 ml/kg body weight) or with 2-BP (3,500 mg/kg) once a day for 3 days. The presence of apoptosis was determined by TUNEL detection in situ and by an increase in DNA fragmentation. A low spontaneous incidence of apoptosis was observed in vehicle control animals, especially in pre-meiotic germ cells of stages I-VI and stages XII-XIV the seminiferous tubules. In 2-BP exposure rats, the incidence of apoptosis markedly increased at 4 h, reached a peak at 8 h (about 7-fold over control), and then decreased rapidly to control level by 48 h after the last administration. Although apoptosis induced by 2-BP occurred in all stages of germ cells, it was most pronounced in spermatogonia and early spermatocytes in stages I-VI and stages XII-XIV. Taken together, our results suggest that apoptosis is involved in the toxicity of testicular germ cells resulting in oligospermia or azoospermia after exposure to 2-BP.

  • In this paper, we developed the on-line Data Aquisition System(DAS) of distribution transformers using the hardware and monitoring program. The DAS consists of the top oil temperature sensing part, ambient temperature sensing part, load current sensing part, acoustic emission peak-value sensing part, acoustic emission pulse counter part, micro-processor part and wireless communication part. The Monitoring System consists of the communication setting, online monitoring and database construction part. The DAS send the data acquired from the some sensors of the distribution transformers to the host PC. The monitoring program of the host PC stores the data to database. And the monitoring system estimates the loss of life time for distribution transformer from the DB. Thus, it could be managed the career and the functional lifetime of the transformer more efficiently than existing methodologies.

  • Thirty-nine samples of roasted sesame seed oils were sensorially evaluated in terms of nutty odor, burnt odor and overall desirability, and their volatile compounds quantitatively analysed using direct sampling capillary GLC. Five volatile compounds were appeared to be significant for the sensory Properties of sesame oils through the multivariate analytical techniques such as stepwise discriminant analysis. canonical discriminant analysis, discriminant analysis and principal component analysis. The most important compounds were 2,5-dimethylpyrazine and 2-methylpyrazine which could be effectively used as chemical indicators related to nutty and burnt odor of sesame oils, respectively. The sesame oils which have represented a good grade of overall desirability have been always kept $35.82{\sim}4.43$ ppm of 2,5-dimethylpyrazine and also $28.90{\sim}6.35$ ppm of 2-methylpyrazine.

  • The analysis of elemental sulfur by polarography has already been reported in the literature. Only a discussion of the more important factors influencing the analysis is here presented. (1) The effects of pH on the reduction of elemental sulfur are pronounced and the use of buffered solutions for the analysis of elemental sulfur is necessary. The authors found that a pH of 4-6 was found to be reproducible polarograms by use of D.C. polarograph. However, in alkali solvents the plateau of elemental sulfur has a pronounced dip if the concentration of sulfur is as much as 30ppm. (2) A.C. polarographic method shows a very high sensitivity in the case of sulfur reduction, so that the very low concentration of sulfur can easily be determined (about 1ppm). (3) The characteristics of sulfur wave can be formulated according to Stackelberg-Hauck-Hans equation. It was found that the curve of the peak potential of elemental sulfur in A.C. polarography versus logarithm of sulfur concentration was obtained to be straight line with the slope of 29.6 millivolts. This result was well agreed with theoretical consideration. (4) It was assumed that this polarographical methods were applicable to micro-analysis of elemental sulfur in crude oil and its petrochemical products, precipitated sulfur, and sulfur ointments with accuracy and rapidity.

  • A field-oriented UHF system for on-line PD monitoring of transformers is designed, which has been installed inside the oil tank of a 220kV transformer in a substation. This system has successfully captured long intermittent discharge signals that hadn't been detected through conventional techniques, and solved the problem successfully. The results demonstrate that UHF technique has great advantages for on-line PD monitoring of transformers. By adopting the peak detection technique, it becomes easy and effective for the transplantation of the phase-resolved pattern recognition technique from conventional method to UHF method, and then to realize continuous on-line monitoring, source characterization and trending analysis.

  • The nuclear power plants in South Korea have been designed in accordance with the U.S. Regulatory Guide 1.60 (R.G 1.60) design spectrum of which the peak frequency range is 2-10 Hz. The characteristics of the earthquakes at the Korea nuclear power plant sites were observed to be closer to that of Central and Eastern United States (CEUS) than the R.G 1.60, which is a lower amplification in a low frequency range, and a higher amplification in a high frequency range. The possibility of failure for sensitive power plant components in the high frequency range has been considered and evaluated. In this study, in order to improve the reliability of nuclear plant and administrative control procedures, seismic tests of an emergency diesel generator (EDG) were conducted using a shaking table under both high and low frequency ranges. From the tests, oil/lubricant leaks from the bolt connections, the fuel filter and the fuel inlet were observed. Therefore, the check list of nuclear plant components after an earthquake should include bolt connections of EDG as well as anchor bolts.

  • We examined the morphology of the fertilized egg and the fine structure of fertilized egg envelopes of Poropanchax normani belonging to the family Poeciliidae, also known as Norman's lampeye using light and electron microscopes. The fertilized eggs with narrow perivitelline space were found to be spherical and demersal, additionally containing small oil droplets in the vitelline membrane. Further, a bundle of adhesive filaments was observed to be present on one side of the fertilized egg. These filaments possessed remarkably high elasticity and were approximately 1-3mm in length. The size of the fertilized egg was determined to be about 1.49 ± 0.07mm (n=30). The outer surface appeared smooth, and adhesive filaments originating at different location of the surface of the envelope were found to be distributed around the egg envelope and were joined together to form a single long bundle in scanning electron microscopic observation. A peak-like structure formed of several straight wrinkles was observed around the micropyle. However, the complete structure of the micropyle could not be studied due to the depth at which it was located. Additionally, the total thickness of the egg envelope was ascertained to be approximately12.5-14.5㎛. The egg envelope consisted of two distinct layers, an outer electron dense layer and an inner lamellar layer, further consisting of 10 sublayers of varying thicknesses. Collectively, it was observed that the morphological characteristics of the fertilized egg, fine structures surrounding the micropyle, outer surface, adhesive structure consisting adhesive filaments, and sections of fertilized egg envelope displayed species specificity.

  • Following the climate-related disasters considered by several efforts, the nuclear capacity needs to double by 2050 compared to 2015. So, it is reasonable to investigate global warming incorporated with the fuzzy set theory for nuclear energy consumption in the aspect of fuzziness and nonlinearity of temperature variations. The complex modeling is proposed for the enhanced assessment of climate change where simulations indicate the degree of influence with the Boolean values between 0.0 and 1.0 in the designed variables. In the case of OIL, there are many 1.0 values between 20th and 60th months in the simulations where there are 10 times more for a 1.0 value in influence. Hence, the temperature variable can give the effective time using this study for 100 months. In the analysis, the 1.0 value in NUCLEAR means the highest influence of the modeling as the temperature increases resulting in global warming. In detail, the first influence happens near the 8th month and then there are four times more influences than effects in the early part of the temperature mitigation. Eventually, in the GLOBAL WARMING, the highest peak is around the 20th month, and then it is stabilized.
