Rancidity of a soybean oil is investigated by an electrochmical method. The redox process of the soybean oil is totally irreversible and diffusion-controlled reaction. As scan rates are faster, the anodic peak potential of the soybean oil is shifted to the positive potential and the anodic current is increased. The anodic peak potentials of the soybean oil is not rarely changed up to open-42 days in the both atmosphere and room temperature. After the open times, the anodic peak potential is largely shifted to a negative direction. This indicates the oxidation of the soybean oil becomes easier. The anodic peak current of the soybean oil is decreased gradually up to open-42 days. But after the open times, the anodic peak current increases suddenly. It must be due to the formation of a carbonyl group owing to rancidity of the soybean oil.

The use of anti-corrosive oil (AC) is inevitable for production of industrial steels to prevent corrosion. The AC is degreased before application of steels, which crucially effects on final products, such as automobile, electricity etc. However, qualitative/quantitative evaluation of degreasing performance are steal insufficient. In this study, degreasing performance of anti-corrosive oil on steel have been studied through X-ray photon spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Commercial automotive steels (AMS) are coated with 4 different anti-corrosive oils (namely AC1-AC4). In XPS, intensity of C1s peak remained after degreasing indirectly indicates incomplete degreasing. Thus, higher C1s peak intensity means less effective degreasing by degreasing agent. peak intensity of C1s peak shows opposite tendency of peak intensity of O1s. We found that EIS analysis is not applicable to mild steel (such as AMS1) due to corrosion during measurement. However, alloy steel can be fully analyzed by EIS and XPS depth profile.
The perilla seed and the germinated perilla seed $(25{\sim}28^{\circ}C$, $2{\sim}3\;days)$ were extracted by n-hexane, and from the extracted oil the antioxidative components were separated, and then the effect of the change in the contents of antioxidative components by germination on the oxidative stability of the perilla oil was studied. The perilla oils were solved acetone and methanol, and kept at $-60^{\circ}C$ overnight and separated into the frozen oil fraction and unfrozen solvent soluble fraction. By comparing the antioxidative stability of the frozen oil fraction the antioxidative components in the perilla oil were found to be methanol soluble. The methanol soluble fraction of perilla oil was applied to silica gel column chromatography and the separated fractions were compared in terms of antioxidative activity. The fraction of n-hexane : ethyl acetate (7 : 3, v/v) showing the highest antioxidative activity was further separated by TLC. The components included in the band $(R_f\;0.71)$ showing the highest antioxidative activity was separated by HPLC. Four peaks were observed on the HPLC chromatogram and the peak areas were changed by germination (perilla seed : peak 1; 46.5%, peak 2; 25.6%, peak 3; 22.6%, germinated perilla seed : peak 1; 43.8%, peak 2; 20.6%, peak 3; 29.8%). The comparative change in the contents of these components was considered to be one factor affecting the antioxidative stability of perilla oil by germination.

In this paper measurements of AE (Acoustic Emission) signals caused by corona discharge were performed to analyze the electrical deterioration in oil. We also examined the relationship between discharge magnitude and peak-to-peak value of AE signals to diagnose the deterioration of liquid dielectrics. From these results, Vpp(peak to peak value) of AE signals was proportional to corona discharge magnitude. The main frequency band of AE signals in oil appeared to 130[kHz].
Oil is obviously vital for economic growth and industry development. This paper attempts to explore whether or not there is a inverted-U relationship between oil consumption and economic growth. To this end, we employ a panel data analysis with fixed effect or random effect models using the set of data from 61 countries for the year 1990-2008. In conclusion, a statistically significant inverted-U relationship between per capita consumption of oil and per capita GDP is found. However, the level of per capita GDP at the peak point of per capita oil consumption is estimated to be 65,072 in 2005 international constant dollars, which is much larger than economic scales of sampled countries. Thus, as per capita GDP grows, per capita oil consumption is predicted to increase until eventually reaching the peak.

This paper describes the measurement technology of the dissolved hydrogen gas due to partial discharge in oil using gas sensor. For higher resolution and less error in measurement of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil, the sensor outputs with ambient temperature which affect the sensor output characteristics should be considered. The sensor output trends with ambient temperature and the properties of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil with partial discharge characteristic were analyzed through the test results. It was indicated that the sensor peak and the base voltage with measuring time were affected by ambient temperature and the measurement errors of the sensor output by temperature were reduced by using the difference between the peak and the base voltage rather than just the peak voltage. In addition, the hydrogen gas sensor outputs were increased with the increase of partial discharge energy.
This study was carried out to determine the optimum harvest date of unshelled immature peanuts and dried kernels from 60 to 120 days after flowering. Fresh pod yield of spanish-type variety, 'Shaedl-tangkong(SD)' reached a peak of 9,140kg/ ha at 70 (days after flowering(Aug. 13) while that of virginia-type variety, 'Daepoongtangkong(DP)' reached a peak of 8,820kg/ha at 90 days(Sept. 11) after flowering. SD and DP showed maximum fresh kernel yield of 6,090 and 6,470kg/ha at 90 days after flowering (Sept. 11), respectively, while dry kernel yield reached a peak of 3,300 and 3,720kg/ha at 110 days(Oct. 1), respectively. Oil content of SD and DP were the highest at 90 days and 100 days after flowering, respectively and the oil content of two varieties increased rapidly from 60 to 90 days. Tannin content of the seed hull of SD increased continuously until 110 days after flowering while that of DP maximized at 100 days. The tannin content of the two varieties increased rapidly from 60 to 100 days. Total sugar of SD and DP showed highest content at 60 days and 70 days after flowering, respectively and suger content decreased very rapidly until 80 days and after that sugar content kept nearly constant. Oil, tannin and total sugar content of spanish-type SD were higher than those of virginia-type DP.
The effect of oil refining processes-degumming, alkali-refining, bleaching and deodorizing-on oil characteristics and oxidation stability of sesame oil were investigated. The colors(L, a, b) of samples were markedly changed and their peroxide and acid values were decreased, while the other characteristics of samples were not changed during refining stages. The L values of alkali-refined, bleached and deodorized sesame oils were largely decreased and their a values were increased due to browning reaction during the storage at $70^{\circ}C$. The colors of crude and degmmed sesame oils were very stable and their peroxide, free fatty acid and conjugated dienoic acid values were slowly increased. Volatile carbonyl compounds formed by oxidation were increased during the storage at $70^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that refining processes did not affect the sesame oil characteristics but decreased the oxidation stability of sesame oil.
Since there have been no method which can applicable to the screening of commercial sesame oil adulterated with other vegetable oils, the present investigation was carried out particularily focusing on the the pattern of IN absorption of sesame oil and other vegetable oils. For this, a variety of oil samples prepared by the conventional method from sesame seeds, perilla seeds, com, soybean, and rice bran were analyzed by IN spectrophotometer. IN spectra of sesame oil and oil of unheated sesame seeds showed absorption peaks at 215, 230 and 290 nm. While UV spectra of com oil, perilla oil and soybean oil all showed absorption peaks at 215, 230 and 280 nm, that of rice bran oill showed peaks at 215, 290 320 nm. When sesame oil was mixed with com oil, perilla oil or soybean oil, respectively, from which the absorbance of peaks at 290 nm were lower than pure sesame oil. The peak at 320 nm which was typical absorption peak of rice bran oil was still observed in the spectnun of mixture of sesame oil with rice bran oil.

Noticing that action of gaseous phase in insulating oil concerns to the discharging characteristics, I investigated the smalness pressure effects on quantity of the partial discharge and discharging pulse frequency. Tests are carried out between the niddle points in insulating oil at pressure being changed by gradual charge of inert gas Ar. At pressure as low as of 0.1-0.5 torr pulse frequency and maximum partial discharge reach peak while at pressure haigher than 20 torr no pulse is observed. The fact that pulse frequency has peak value at certain presure, which is changed either by charging Ar or by adding oil, implies that the action of gaseous phase depends on pressure. Test results are that partial discharge pulse are governed by pressure of Ar-charged oil, and less partial discharge pulses correspond to smaller bubbles whereas more partial descharge pulses correspond to larger bubbles.
