Fatigue properties of rubber are one of the most important characteristics in the rubber industry. In this study, the fatigue properties of MREs (magneto-rheological elastomers) based on NR (natural rubber), EPDM (ethylene-propylene diene monomer), and AEM (ethylene/acrylic elastomer) were investigated. For comparison, MREs with a Shore hardness of 60A were prepared. According to the relative results, the fatigue properties of EPDM MRE were the worst. Thus, we investigated methods to improve the fatigue properties of EPDM MRE by varying the carbon black content and curing systems of EPDM as the matrix of the MRE. Dynamic properties were measured using a fatigue tester and an RPA (rubber process analyzer), and the XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) was used to analyze the curing system of the EPDM matrix. According to the results, the Payne effect increased and the fatigue resistance decreased as the carbon black content increased. In case of the curing system, the CV (conventional vulcanization) system was superior to the EV (efficient vulcanization) system in terms of the fatigue resistance. This was because the number of flexible bonds in the case of the CV system was higher than that in the case of the EV system. However, the EV system showed excellent mechanical properties because it had many monosulfidic bonds with strong binding energy.

To study the effects of structural difference and fatty acid chain length of glyceride, new dispersion agents having various glyceride structures such as mono-, di-, and tri-, were prepared using glycerol extracted from palm oil and fatty acid having various chain length ranges from 12 to 18. These dispersion agents were mixed with the rubber compounds and compared with conventional metal salt dispersion agents. Glyceride dispersion agent provided remarkable improvement in silica dispersion, compared to metal salt fatty acidic one, even though the viscosity of mixtures was relatively high due to low lubricating effect, and this was approved by mechanical properties, wear properties, and Payne effect. Also, the longer in chain length of fatty acid and the smaller in numbers of fatty acid, the dispersity of silica was improved.

This paper is concerned with investigating the asymptotic behavior of end effects for a generalized heat conduction problem with an added dissipation term defined on a three-dimensional semi-infinite cylinder. With homogeneous Dirichlet conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder it is shown that solutions either grow exponentially or decay exponentially in the distance from the finite end of the cylinder. In particular, to render decay estimate explicit, we pattern after the analysis of Payne and Song [13, 15]. The continuous dependence effect of perturbing the equations parameters is also investigated.
The influences of carbon black loading and cure type on the cure characteristics including kinetics and dynamic mechanical properties were investigated for a styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). The rate constants of accelerated sulfur vulcanization reaction at three different temperatures were determined using a cure rheometer, and they were compared with those from the direct measurement of sulfur concentration. The strain softening behavior under dynamic deformation, known as the Payne effect was also discussed depending on the carbon black loading and cure type.

The purpose of this study was to analyze. The effect of participation physical activities on health care patterns in the aged. The subject of the study was selected by multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling among the aged center and aged club to participate program whose age were 65 and over year old among inhabitant the Kwangju metropolitan area. The data were collected through a questionnaire adapted from Payne and Hahn's(1986) 'Understanding Your Health-A personal profile; Evaluating Your Health'. The pilot test was executed after the questionnaire was translated into Korean.
In order to select polymer matrix for MIF (Molded-In Foaming) process, in this study, we investigated rheological properties of commercial polymers, SBC (Styrene-Butadiene Copolymers, K-resin KK38) and SBS (Styrene- Butadiene-Styrene, KTR 101 and KTR 301). In time sweep test, the rheological properties ($G^{\prime}$, $G^{{\prime}{\prime}}$, ${\eta}^*$) of SBS at 155 and $170^{\circ}C$ display almost constant value as a function of time from 0 s to 1800 s. On contrast, the rheological properties of SBS at 185 and $200^{\circ}C$ exponentially increase as a function of time. It could be due to gelation of SBS at high temperature conditions. These increment of rheological properties are not observed in SBC. From LAOS (large amplitude oscillatory shear) test, the nonlinear rheological properties of SBS at 155 and $200^{\circ}C$ after 1800 s are compared. The nonlinear rheological properties at $155^{\circ}C$ show simple strain thinning behavior such as linear homopolymer, however, the nonlinear rheological properties at $200^{\circ}C$ show 2 times strain thinning behavior (Payne effect). It well match with the gelation of SBS at $200^{\circ}C$. From rheological studies, it is confirmed that the proper polymer matrix for MIF process (low rheological properties at initial time and high rheological properties after process) is SBS KTR 301.

The engine mount of a car subjected to a pre-load related to the weight of the engine, and acts to insulate the vibration coming from the engine by moving on large or small displacement depending on the driving condition of the car. The vibration insulation of the engine mount is an effect obtained by dissipating the mechanical energy into heat by the viscosity characteristic of the rubber and the microscopic behavior of the additive carbon black. Therefore, dynamic stiffness from the intrinsic properties of rubber filled with carbon black at the design stage is an important design consideration. In this paper, we introduced a hyper-elastic, visco-elastic and elasto-plastic model to predict the dynamic characteristics of rubber, and developed a fitting program to determine the material model parameters using MATLAB. The dynamic characteristics analysis of the rubber insulator of the ACTIVE MOUNT was carried out by using MSC.MARC nonlinear structural analysis software, which provides the dynamic characteristics material model. The analysis results were compared with the dynamic characteristics test results of the rubber insulator, which is one of the active mount components, and the analysis results were confirmed to be valid.

Liquid butadiene rubber (LqBR) is used as a processing aid and plays a vital role in the manufacture of high-performance tire tread compounds. In this study, center-functionalized LqBR (C-LqBR) was polymerized with different vinyl content via anionic polymerization. The effects of the vinyl content on the properties of the compounds were investigated by partially replacing the treated distillate aromatic extract (TDAE) oil with C-LqBR in silica-filled rubber compounds. C-LqBR compounds showed a low Payne effect and Mooney viscosity regardless of the vinyl content, because of improved silica dispersion due to the ethoxysilyl group. As the vinyl content of C-LqBR increased, the optimum cure time (t90) increased owing to a decrease in the number of allylic hydrogen. Moreover, the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the compound increased, and snow traction and abrasion resistance performance decreased, whereas wet grip improved. The energy loss characteristics revealed that the hysteresis attributed to the free chain ends of C-LqBR was dominant.

The physical properties of silica-filled SBR compounds (WSBR) prepared using silica-SBR wet masterbatches (WMB) were systematically investigated to understand the effect of the surface treatment of silica on the reinforcement performance of SBR. Treatment of silica with bis(triethoxysilylpropyl)tetrasulfide (TESPT) in the liquid phase, followed by mixing with an SBR solution and recovery by water stripping, easily produced silica-SBR WMB. However, insufficient surface treatment in terms of the amount and stability of the incorporated TESPT led to considerable silica loss and inevitable TESPT elution. Pretreatment of silica in the gas phase with TESPT and another organic material that enabled the formation of organic networks among the silica particles on the surface provided hydrophobated silica, which could be used to produce silica-SBR WMB, in high yields of above 99%. The amount and type of organic material incorporated into silica greatly influenced the cure characteristics, processability, and tensile and dynamic properties of the WSBR compounds. The TESPT and organic material stably incorporated into silica increased their viscosity, while the organic networks dispersed on the silica surface were highly beneficial for reducing their rolling resistance. Excessive dosing of TESTP induced low viscosity and a high modulus. The presence of connection bonds formed by the reaction of glycidyloxy groups with amine groups on the silica surface resulted in physical entanglement of the rubber chains with the bonds in the WSBR compounds, leading to low rolling resistance without sacrificing the mechanical properties. Mixing of the hydrophobated silica with a rubber solution in the liquid phase improved the silica dispersion of WSBR compounds, as confirmed by their low Payne effect, and preservation of the low modulus enhanced the degree of entanglement.
