In this paper, Korea's first geostationary Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellte(COMS) program is introduced. COMS program is one of the Korea National Space Programs to develop and operate a pure civilian satellite of practical-use for the compound missions of meteorological observation and ocean monitoring, and space test of experimentally developed communication payload on the geostationary orbit. The target launch of COMS is scheduled at the end of 2008. COMS program is international cooperation program between KARI and ASTRIUM SAS and funded by Korean Government. COMS satellite is a hybrid satellite in the geostationary orbit, which accommodates multiple payloads of MI(Meteorological Imager), GOCI(Geostationary Ocean Color Imager), and the Ka band Satellite Communication Payload into a single spacecraft platform. The MI mission is to continuously extract meteorological products with high resolution and multi-spectral imager, to detect special weather such as storm, flood, yellow sand, and to extract data on long-term change of sea surface temperature and cloud. The GOCI mission aims at monitoring of marine environments around Korean peninsula, production of fishery information (Chlorophyll, etc.), and monitoring of long-term/short-term change of marine ecosystem. The goals of the Ka band satellite communication mission are to in-orbit verify the performances of advanced communication technologies and to experiment wide-band multi-media communication service mandatory.

Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) is developing COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) which is scheduled to take off in June, 2009. COMS is the first geosynchronous satellite developed in Korea which is able to perform three missions 24 hours a day. The oceanic payload was transferred from France to Korea in November, 2008 and made it possible to integrate all three payload together. After the integration COMS is planned to be transferred to Guiana Space Center (on French territory) to be launched. In this paper the trend of domestic and international development of the multi-purpose geosynchronous satellite considering the COMS is the first operational geosynchronous multipurpose satellite in the world.
The ocean and meteorological payloads of COMS are concerned to experience degration of image quality due to the disturbance induced by the motion of moving parts of the payloads. And thruster firings for stationkeeping and wheel offloading are expected to degrade the image quality of the optical payloads. In case of COMS, in order to keep the optical payload free from the mechanical interference from the other payload, the operation design approach has been taken. This paper introduces the operation design of COMS taken to avoid these problems. In order to meet users requirement by avoiding the degradation of image quality, the timeline of optical payloads and housekeeping are optimized, and operational constraints are applied to the mirror motion of the meteorological payload. This paper also introduces the results of time budget analysis performed to validate the operation design.
Thus paper summarizes the procedures to develop the downscaled payload kick motor for KSR-III by KARI. Filament winding-a well-known method of manufacturing composite motor case - is adopted to reduce structural weight. Netting and lamination theories are used to determine adequate winding thickness under required internal pressure. Dome shapes are designed considering feasible winding patterns and easiness of mandrel manufacturing. T-800 carbon fiber and Novolac type resin are selected for weight-reduction. The separate mandrels are disassembled and removed after filament winding. The manufacturing process of real payload kick motor is developed from the design experience of downscaled ones.
When the latency of a flow in a fair packet scheduler, which is determined by its rate, violates its required delay bound, the scheduler should reduce the latency with even raising the rate being reserved for the flow. The excessively reserved rate win enforce some outgoing link bandwidth be lost. This loss can not be, unfortunately, evaluated by the three metrics of latency, fairness and implementation complexity used in previous works. This paper is aimed to first introduce the metric of bandwidth utilization to investigate the bandwidth loss in a scheduler and then evaluate the timestamp based schedulers in terms of the bandwidth and payload utilizations. The results show that the bandwidth utilization increases with loosing the required delay bound and, in particular, schedulers with the latency property of WFQ have much better payload utilization by up to 50% than that in the SCFQ one.
Many recent satellites have mission periods longer than 10 years; thus, satellite-based local space weather monitoring is becoming more important than ever. This article describes the instruments and data applications of the Korea Space wEather Monitor (KSEM), which is a space weather payload of the GeoKompsat-2A (GK-2A) geostationary satellite. The KSEM payload consists of energetic particle detectors, magnetometers, and a satellite charging monitor. KSEM will provide accurate measurements of the energetic particle flux and three-axis magnetic field, which are the most essential elements of space weather events, and use sensors and external data such as GOES and DSCOVR to provide five essential space weather products. The longitude of GK-2A is $128.2^{\circ}E$, while those of the GOES satellite series are $75^{\circ}W$ and $135^{\circ}W$. Multi-satellite measurements of a wide distribution of geostationary equatorial orbits by KSEM/GK-2A and other satellites will enable the development, improvement, and verification of new space weather forecasting models. KSEM employs a service-oriented magnetometer designed by ESA to reduce magnetic noise from the satellite in real time with a very short boom (1 m), which demonstrates that a satellite-based magnetometer can be made simpler and more convenient without losing any performance.
Aerial application using an unmanned agricultural helicopter can reduce labor and pollution. The development of an agricultural helicopter became urgent for both precise and timely spraying. In this study, a rotor system for unmanned helicopter capable of 20 $kg_f$ payload, was developed and lift capability was evaluated. A lift force over the dead weight of the helicopter was obtained at the pitch angle of $6^{\circ}$. As the pitch angle increased to $8^{\circ}\;and\;10^{\circ}$, the total lift increased to $74{\sim}81\;kg_f\;and\;86{\sim}93\;kg_f$, respectively. A range of engine speed at the rated flight condition, lifting mean payload of 23 $kg_f$ was determined. The data acquired from this study will be used for designing tail system and RF console in the next stage of the research. The rated lift capability was enough for loading 20 liters of spray material including spraying equipments.

This paper summarizes the design concepts and implementation of a Ku-band channel amplifier's engineering model for the communication and broadcasting satellite applications. The selected architecture uses the analog gain control for the FGM(Fixed Gain Mode) and the output level limiting using automatic loop control for the ALC (automatic level control) mode. The Ku-band channel amplifier incorporates several state-of-the-art components including voltage-controlled PIN diode attenuators, and various temperature-compensation circuits. The measured characteristics of the Ku-band channel amplifier are in good agreement with the expected performance. The results show a fixed gain control of 28 dB, and an automatic level control of 16 dB over operating temperature range. The designed engineering model could be used as a channel amplifier for Ku-band communication and broadcasting satellite payload system.

Herein, we design a wideband $8{\times}8$ waveguide Butler matrix in order to use in a multi-port amplifiers(MPAs) at Ka-band. To achieve the broadband characteristic, we design a binomial 6-slot 3 dB directional coupler which is used to configure the $8{\times}8$ Butler matrix. The measured results of the fabricated $8{\times}8$ Butler matrix have low insertion loss of less than 0.3 dB, good return loss of over 26 dB and high isolation of over 35 dB within the design bandwidth of 3 GHz.

To avoid some protection systems such as firewall, P2P applications have recently used to apply dynamic port numbers. Reliable estimates of P2P traffic require examination of packet payload, a methodological land mine from legal, privacy technical, logistic, and fiscal perspectives. Indeed, access to user payload is often rendered impossible by one of these factors, inhibiting trustworthy estimation of P2P growth and dynamics. Despite various methods such as port-based and signature-based techniques, it still dose not satisfy the method which uses both qualitative and quantitative aspects. In this paper, a method using SVM mechanism which discriminate the P2P traffic from non-P2P traffics using differences between P2P and other application traffics is suggested. This is a systematic methodology to identify P2P networks, and without relying on packet payload.
