In this paper, the effect of finishing methods on the relationships between compressive strength, permeability and void ratio of porous concrete (POC) or pervious concrete is discussed, using core specimens taken from actually constructed POC pavement. To attain reliable performance in the construction work, a newly designed finisher for POC is developed, and the performances as well as methods for controlling void ratio are examined. The POC pavements were finished with three finishing methods viz., no finishing, finishing with standard compactor and finishing with prototype compactor. The results show that the prototype POC finisher is efficient in controlling the void ratio and the quality of POC pavements. The relationships between compressive strength as well as permeability and void ratio of the in-situ POC pavements finished by the prototype machine were obtained. They are slightly different from the laboratory test results owing mainly to the mold effect and the differences in compaction modes.
Pavements porous concrete is a noble structure design in the urban management development generally enabling water to be permeated within its structure. It has also capable in the same time to cater dynamic loading. During the technology development, the quality and quantity of waste materials have led to a waste disposal crisis. Using recycled materials (secondary) instead of virgin ones (primary) have reduced landfill pressure and extraction demanding. This study has reviewed the waste materials (Recycled crushed glass (RCG), Steel slag, Steel fiber, Tires, Plastics, Recycled asphalt) used in the pavement porous concretes and report their respective mechanical, durability and permeability functions. Waste material usage in the partial cement replacement will cause the concrete production cost to be reduced; also, the concretes' mechanical features have slightly affected to eliminate the disposal waste materials defects and to use cement in Portland cement (PC) production. While the cement has been replaced by different industrial wastes, the compressive strength, flexural strength, split tensile strength and different PC permeability mixes have depended on the waste materials' type applied in PC production.

Pervious concrete pavements are the need of the day to avoid urban flooding and to facilitate ground water recharge. However, the strength of pervious or porous concrete is considerably less compared to conventional concrete. In this experimental investigation, an effort is made to improve the strength of pervious concrete by adopting fibres and a small amount of fine aggregate. A porous concrete with cement to aggregate ratio of 1:5 and a water-powder ratio of 0.4 is adopted. 30% of the cement is replaced by cementitious material ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) for better strength and workability. Recron fibres at a dosage of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% by weight of cement were included to improve the impact strength. Since concrete pavements are subjected to impact loads, the impact strength was also calculated by "Drop ball method" in addition to compressive strength. The effect of fine aggregate and recron fibres on workability, porosity, compressive and impact strength was studied. The investigations have shown that 20% inclusion of fine aggregate and 1.5% recron fibres by weight of cement give better strength with an acceptable range of porosity.
In this study the mechanical properties of various wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete mixtures are investigated. A properly designed porous concrete pavements provides a durable riding surface. It also eliminates puddles and standing water, resulting in improved skid resistance. The most popular application is that of light-traffic volume roadways such as parking lots, resident roads, driveways, and sidewalks. Flexural strength and toughness index are examined for wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete. Type of Wire mesh is divided into three cases, A type, B type and C type. It shows A type is most excellent shape of destruction of slab specimen is similar to that of flexural specimen. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a pilot study undertaken to examine the extent to which wire mesh reinforced porous concrete can be used as a continuous paving materials.
The present study has an objetive to define the characteristic of the Porous Concrete to be used in the resistant layers of the pavement. Up to the moment there is no material which is capable which is capable of satisfying the mechanical resistances and drainability, two characterstics which interves, and a detailled study has been carried out on the same order to obtain the porous concrete of this study. such as: Mode and time of compaction. type of cement, water/cement ratio, maxium size of aggregates, sieve test. incorporation of some additives and additions etc., among them emphasizing the use of a method of compaction vibro-compression in the laboratory with which an optimum compacting was reached, and can be obtanied on the site with a spreader rated with double tamper. With this porous concrete for this study whose dominating characteristics is the drainability jointly with a high mechanical resistance. a safe and silence firm is obtained, with can be a great diffusion in the near future, for its application on the pavements. Based on these works carried out, there was the first experience in the world of field application with 25cm of resistance layer of Porous Concrete Pavement in Salamanca, Spain.
Safety, resilience and comfort of pedestrian were assessed by the British Pendulum Test and SB/GB factor test at 8 kinds of sidewalk pavement. Sidewalk paving materials were normal concrete, porous concrete, concrete block, soil concrete, asphalt, rubber chip/resin mixture, wood chip/resin mixture and floor tile. In addition, a survey was conducted to investigate the perception of pedestrians on the sidewalk paving material. As a result, while the skid resistance value was measured in the most 60BPN above, the floor tile showed a low value of about 30BPN. The ratios of SB factor to GB factor of the elastic pavements(rubber/resin mixture and wood chip/resin mixture) appeared to be relatively large when compared with those of the conventional sidewalks. The survey showed that respondents perceived as more safe and comfortable elastic pavements compared to conventional pavements. Approximately 50% of respondents answered that hardened soil pavement was the most environmentally friendly.
Porous concrete is defined as d type of concrete for which the fine aggregate component the matrix is entirely omitted. Although it had been used as a building material in Europe for over 60 years, low strength and high void ratio limited its application in the past. In recent years, however high void ratio of concrete has been recognized again and can be used as an environmental conscious material, for example, parking lots, draining light-traffic-volume pavements and as sea water purifying material. The result of an experiment on the void ratio of fiber reinforced porous concrete and its influence on the compressive strength and permeability relationship of concrete are reported in this paper. One-sized coarse aggregate of 5-10mm, and three absolute content of fiber(steel fiber, polyprophylen fiber) were used. The result of measured void ratio, permeability coefficient and compressive strength show a small variation. Void ratio, permeability coefficient and compressive strength of fiber reinforced porous concrete depend on contents of fiber and absolute volume ratios of paste to aggregate.
This study aimed to categorize pervious rubberized concrete into fresh and hardened concrete analyzing its durability, permeability and strength. During the globalization of modern life, growing population and industry rate have signified a sustainable approach to all aspects of modern life. In recent years, pervious concrete (porous concrete) has significantly substituted for pavements due to its mechanical and environmental properties. On the other hand, scrap rubber tire has been also contributed with several disposal challenges. Considering the huge amount of annually tire wastes tossing out, the conditions become worse. Pervious concrete (PC) gap has graded surface assisted with storm water management, recharging groundwater sources and alleviate water run-offs. The results have shown that the use of waste tires as aggregate built into pervious concrete has tremendously reduced the scrap tire wastes enhancing environmental compliance.
